OOC: I thought I would start this.
IC:
Mirri was already in the shuttle and preparing for departure. She had laid in a course and had the engines primed and warming up. She waited for everyone to arrive and was already looking at different courses in the event of a problem. She was planning on manual flight, she didn’t even pretend that this was going to be a simple flight, she had been in tighter situations.

Doolittle arrived at the shuttle bay. A place he was familiar with from his recent mission with the squad leader pilot suffering from a form of PTSD. He looked over to the COS and smiled. It was his way of reassuring the crew member that he was fine and that all would go well. Doolittle was first and foremost a psychiatrist no matter what the new title suggested. He only hoped he was up to the new medical doctor role.

Doolittle MD

The Andorian returned the smile, nodding slightly with his antennae.

“They don’t pay us by the hour,” Kolar said to no one in particular as he headed into the shuttle bay. Runabouts really were just mini-starships. Higher warp, higher hull integrity, size, weapons than a shuttle. She could just do more. He liked more. He walked confidently to the hatch. “Prep for departure. We’ll come in high and from down wind. Maybe it will be all over by time we get there.”

Kolar CSO

The COS got settled into tactical and began running a quick check on the associated systems, the most important of which being the metaphasic shielding. In terms of weaponry, the shuttle’s phasers and micro launchers all appeared to be in order.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

Kolar looked over Ch’zaolrirh’s shoulder watching his checklist. He spoke softly, but his words came out clearly. “Anything could use the storm as cover… friend or foe.” He didn’t explain why he made that discernment.

Doolittle got into the shuttle and took a seat in the back. He was comfortable enough but ready was to get this underway. He was more nervous if he had to take serious medical care of someone.

Permission was given for the shuttle to move …
GM

Doolittle MD

Mirri piloted them to the area and as Kolar gave directions, she began piloting the shuttle into a reentry angle at the northern pole.

“Standard re-entry angle, but arc us east of the northern pole.” It wasn’t a significant difference, but it would use the storm as cover the runabout angled from the north and west diagonally across the planet.

Kolar

As the shuttle entered the storm, the presence of kelbonite made sensors unreliable, however, the shuttle was able to avoid an all out crash as the shuttle descended slowly and touched ground without incident.

GM

MIrri set the shuttle down and shut down the engines. “We’re here folks. ”

Helm

“We are where we need to be, but we haven’t figured out the why.” Kolar scanned the area first with the ship board sensors and then with the hand tricorder before making any decisions. The signal could be anywhere nearby and under any number of influences beyond the known which is the sand storm.

“Lets do a quick hail, maybe we’ll get an answer.”

He had hoped that the sand storm would have completely passed by time they had landed but it lasted longer than he expected… well his was a science officer not a meteorologist. “We are going to need to suit up.” He said disappointedly. It would take a few minutes and that would be enough time for the data to come in from the sensors.

Kolar

Michael was at ops. “This storm may drive a hail into the useless category. Like our sensors. But we can try it. =/\=Any vessel within range, if you can hear us, this is a Federation shuttlecraft from the USS Brian A. Olinski. Please respond if you can.=/\= He waited for a reply.

-Lt Michael Gould, CE

As they waited for a response, Ch’zaorlrih left the bridge. He returned a moment later with a handful of Star Fleet issue EV Suits. He began to pass them around to the crew. Hopefully, they wouldn’t have to spend too much time out in the storm.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

OOC: I imagine its more of a bio suit that Kolar was suggesting. What exactly are we putting on so I know how to rp it correctly.
IC: The Dr got up to put on a suit. It had been a long time since med school when he had gotten into any type of protective gear.

Doolittle

OOC: Actually he was referring to an EV suit.

There was static coming from the comms for a few seconds. There was only one word that got through: “Sierra”. That was then followed by static again.

GM

“Get a bearing on that signal.” Without a cross bearing they couldn’t triangulate and get a range, but the certainly could get a directions.

Kolar

“Got it.” Michael tried to get a fix on the signal.

-Lt Michael Gould, CE

OOC: Corrected my posts to EV suits.

Ch’zaolrirh finished wrestling on his suit. Once on, he began fiddling with the controls on his forearm in an attempt to lower the suit’s internal temperature.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

Well the math would be interesting. With only one bearing they didn’t have a range. It couldn’t be too far as the signal came in, but on the other and it couldn’t be too close away as it broke up and didn’t come in cleanly.

“Take us 2 kilometers on that bearing.” That was a safe distance. There was almost no chance that the ship was within a kilometer or they would have seen it even in this soup. If it wasn’t Kolar saved them about an hour of walking in an EV suit.

Kolar

Doolittle checked his tricorder and emergency med kit strapped to the side of his suit. He had been studying and doing med drills in the holodeck. A lot of med training had come back to him. He knew he was ready. He was even aware enough to self study himself as a psychological specimen in a new environment. Sadly he found he reacted no better or worse than anyone else.

Doolittle

Mirri looked at Kolar “Do we want someone to stay with the shuttle?” She asked as she put on an EV suit, she secured all the systems against intruders. Looking at Kolar and waiting for the others to get suited up. Securing a phaser to her side and she grabbed her tricorder and an engineering kit just in case they needed it.

Helm

The computer showed the time that had lapsed … It would be about 25 minutes before the storm would pass by.

GM

Doolittle was wanting to get down there and see what had happened. It seemed to be dragging out. This was also an opportunity to study a large amount of people exposed to the same stressors and see what different reactions had occurred.

Doolittle

It was always safer to leave someone behind a runabout was a mini-starship. That was a lot of ability to leave behind. He shrugged. “Set the transport to auto beam us back at a triple click of our comms. We’ll leave it at that for now.” He nodded to the door. “Ch’zaolrirh, Lead us out.”

Kolar

Michael sealed his EV suit helmet in place. “If anyone on that vessel has half a brain cell, they’ve got an SOS going. Our tricorders should be able to detect an outgoing signal. If we look at the right frequencies…” he programmed his tricorder to search for Starfleet emergency transmissions. “I didn’t pick anything up from here, but maybe when we get closer.”
