To Doolittle the trip seemed endless even though he knew it had not been long. The suits insulated them from the dust physically hitting them but combined with the wind it almost seemed like that. Anyone exposed to this without protection for any period of time would be in bad shape. He tool a mental note of that for treatment options. Being able to see something like the Sierra was a relief. Hopefully this was just a case of a downed ship and everyone had stayed on the ship. If not his first mission as a CMO would be very difficult.Doolittle
Mirri was looking at the Sierra and began scanning the ship for damage that needed to be repaired if possible and looking to see what had brought them down. She was also looking around them to see what was going on.
Helm
Her scans show that their aft impulse drive was clogged up with sand. This was aggravating the condition of the engine which was due for replacement.
She was able to do this because by the time they got near to the Sierra, the sand storm was at the end of its life, less sand and particles were in the air …
GM
=^=Oliniski to Sierra, please acknowledge.=^= They were mere meters away from the Sierra now, it was unlikely that the signal would not cut through the interference now.
Kolar
There was no so much static.
=/\=Yes, this is the Sierra. We probably need some help to get our ship back in order again. I believe the sand and kelbonite particles would be doing a lot of problems to our engines.=/\=
GM
Ch’zaolrirh attempted to wipe the dust from his helmet visor. The Sierra was an older ship, but she looked particularly worse for wear. Pulling out his own tricorder, he began scanning the area for lifeforms. It didn’t seem like anyone else was around, but you could never be too sure.
COS Ch’zaolrirh
Mirri looked at the others “That engine isn’t going anywhere soon.” She said “It’s clogged with sand and it needed to upgraded to begin with.” She added “I don’t know that we have the supplies on the Olinski to make the needed repairs.” She said “I need to get better scans and send information back to engineering to see what we have available.” She said.
Helm
“Doesn’t it seem off they been stuck here for this long and in harrowing circumstances and we call them they seem nonchalant about what is happening?” Doolittle piped up on the coms.
Doolittle MD
Ch’zaolrirh did not detect any lifeforms outside the ship. All the life signs were inside the ship. As the storm moved on and the air became clearer, the tricorder told them that it was safe to remove their helmets.
One of the side hatches of the Sierra opened and two uniformed men emerged. Both were wearing gold Starfleet overalls. Seeing the away team, they waved to them. Then they moved to the aft of the vessel to inspect their engines …
GM
Micheal followed the crewmen to the engines. “They’re blocked up with sand. Lt Michael Gould, Chief Engineer, USS Brian A. Olinski.” He extended a hand. “I’m not sure if you’re going anywhere on impulse power. Are thrusters functional? If you get a little higher up, maybe a shuttlecraft could assist in shaking some of that loose.”
-Lt Michael Gould, CE
“Yes, they are,” replied the more senior man. “I’m Lt. Commander Williamson, Second Officer, and here is Lt. Russell, Chief Engineer. Would you like to meet with Captain Whitney our CO?”
GM
=^=We’d love to, what do you suggest?=^= Kolar offered belatedly.
The COS watched the exchange. Doolittle was right, these men were acting as if this was all a training exercise. Holstering his tricorder, he unlatched his helmet and tugged it over his head. His antennae wobbled for a moment as he adjusted to the atmosphere.
COS Ch’zaolrirh
Doolitte, still suspicious, but willing to help stepped up.
“I’m the CMO. Is there any need for medical assistance.” Doolittle asked. Though there should be at least one medical staff member even on a ship like this.
Doolittle MD kinda
=^=What’s the odds of after the storm settles down the Olinski puts a tractor beam on this ship and pulls her up?=^= Kolar tried to do the math in his head but didn’t know the hull stress that the small ship could take.
Kolar
=/\=Lifting a craft this size? How bad is the rest of the damage? If she has thruster power, we might be able to…=/\= Michael calculated.
-Lt Michael Gould, CE
The warp engine was not damaged by the storm. The insides were in need of maintenance and the engine efficiency was about 5 points below the accepted efficiency standards but the ship was not in a very bad shape. It was probable that it would be able to make the journey back to its destination. The impulse engines were another matter. There was a new clamp connecting the fuel source to the engines. The engineer admitted that there was a fault in the clamp discovered as they neared their present location. They had gingerly used thrusters to land to find out the trouble. Then they discovered that the clamp had been worn off. They decided to replace the clamp. The engineer had said that leaving the clamp as it was would have been risky. The engineer was correct. If the clamp disengaged, it might have caused the deuterium to leak into the warp core and cause more problems. They had just replaced the clamp when they noticed the approaching storm.
There were no injuries in the passengers except for the stress of being in the storm.
GM
Doolittle listened to the account being given. He was here as the CMO and had every intention of playing that role. However his psychiatrist training that this was, in a sense, a minor emergency but an emergency all the same. No one had yet seen, and admittingly that was not many, were acting even remotely like it was. Maybe it was their training and experience but his own told him that the expected psychological response to a situation like this was not occurring.
“Lt.” He leaned over to the COS. “I’m not sure these men are reacting in a manner that matches their current situation. They seem not to have any psychological response to this somewhat dire situation. I’m not the most experienced officer but this is my opinion.”
Doolittle
The COS nodded in acknowledgement, “It’s all too casual. We need to start speaking with the passengers to find out what is really happening here.”
Kolar stared at the ship for a moment. He toggled his controls so only the landing party could hear him. =^=Why they hell are they still here.=^= He shrugged. +^- Even I would fire you if you could get my ship of this rock before a rescue ship showed up. What the hell am I missing.=^+ Kolar smelled a trap and what drove him crazy is hat he almost never smelled a trap.
Kolar.
=^=Olinkski to away team. Be aware you have to fighters in your area. THey currently do not pose a threat, but be aware of them.=^= The young officer said.
CIOMirri looked at her surroundings and listened to Kolar’s statements and responded =^=Sir, it may be that their pilot was not confident in his skills....or there is another reason they are here.=^= She said as she looked at the ship (OOC: GM does it look like the Sierra would have a fighter wing on it?) =^=Something isn’t right.” She said concuring with the CMO.
Helm
OOC: The Sierra was a transport ship. It has defensive capabilities but not fighter wing.
IC:
=^=Whose fighters Sir?=^= That information was sparse.
Ch’zaolrirh furled his brow. Where could a pair of rogue fighters have originated? Trusting that the Olinski would get to the bottom of it, he tried to focus on his primary objective, the safety of the away team. =^= Requesting permission to join whomever goes aboard. At least one of us should probably remain outside until we know what is going on with this crew. =^=
Doolittle was irritated a little inside. He had been the one to say that first. Well at least the COS knew he had. Of course he should be the one who detected it based on his superior skill set with human nature but still. This was more a common animal sense. To sense danger when things were outside the norm.
Doolittle
The second officer asked, “Would you come with me? Let’s see the CO.”
GM
COS Ch’zaolrirh
“Well since there seems to be no need medical I can stay outside.” Doolittle said.
If these people could not see something wrong he was not willing to walk into a trap. If there was one. Doolittle was aware he might be a tad nervous on his first CMO away mission.
Doolittle
On the CoS’ private channel, Michael responded. =/\=We have to play along somehow.=/\=
-Lt Michael Gould, CE
“Better inside in than outside.” =^=Sierra we are in proximity of your ship, please prep for our arrival off your port side.=^= He nodded to the side of the ship. “Give them a knock.”
Kolar
OOC: Im confused. Whose fighters? Ours or some others? I certainly cannot post yet if I want to stay in or out until I know .
Doolittle
OOC: Those should be our fights. Apex & Sehlat went in for a closer look as the storm was blowing out. They have just made contact with the Sierra, as well. –Terry
IC: Captain Whitney was a 1.8 metre man with a crop of short white hair. He looked like he was nearing his retirement. However, the way he got up and moved showed that he was more alert and active than his appearance implied.
“Welcome,” he said in a soft but authoritative voice. He held out his hand in greeting. “Thank you, gentlemen, we would have gotten airborne, eventually, but we need to make sure that our passengers reach Starbase for their connecting journeys. Any help you give would expedite that.”
GM
Mirri was just a pilot on this mission, she left the talking to the others. She was on edge, something didn’t seem right and they might need to act quickly should something go down. Mirri looked completely relaxed, yet internally she was ready to act if anything happened.
