He was scared, to be sure. But home would be the hum of the warp core, the literal heartbeat of any ship. “Engineering”, he muttered, stepping into the turbolift. “Belay that. Sickbay”, he corrected, remembering proper protocol for all new transfers.

Ensign Stratto
Engineer
(Just a reminder to sign as your character, not your writer.... welcome aboard… <smiles>..)

The turbo lift made a stop and a young woman stepped in. She was wearing work out gear so her rank wasn’t readily available on sight. Her dark hair was pulled back in a ponytail that hung most of the way down her back and she looked like she had just finished a pretty rigorous work out. But her eyes and smile were bright. “Hey… how’s it going? I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Xandra. Either you are new or this ship keeps getting bigger.” Her laugh was sincere as she offered her hand after wiping it down the side of her leggings with a slight murmured apology.

Pilot

“Sapper. Actually, Eric. Sapper means ‘Combat Engineer’,” Eric awkwardly introduced himself, taking the sweaty hand, then resisting the urge to wipe it off on his gold tunic. “New”, he confirmed, answering her pseudo-asked question. “Well, new to this ship anyways, Xandra. This is my....sixth starship posting”, he had taken a moment to remember each posting over the past few decades-since his graduation from the Academy a very long time ago. His hair had started to streak with grey, and he felt even older now talking to the younger woman. “But age is just a number”, he murmured just above a whisper, almost as if he were talking to himself, and needed to hear that cliche from time to time. He didn’t relish starting over a Star Fleet career at this age, but he wasn’t going to squander the opportunity. In stark comparison to her eyes, Sapper’s looked as if they’ve seen too much to be bright again.

“Deck Lieutenant?”, Sapper asked. While Xandra wasn’t wearing her uniform or insignia, Sapper had made it a point to getting to know all the major players aboard, especially the pilots of the squadron ships he was going to be maintaining.

OOC: Thanks for the reminder about the sign-off. I am actually returning to Star-Fkeet.com from about a ten year break, having posted for about ten years before that (was kinda of happy to see Kenson still here). I’m playing the same character that I had all those years ago, but something happened, causing him to restart his career. I haven’t decided exactly what yet, but I’ll flesh it out as I go. It’s good to be back!
