After Jason had thanked the starbase communications officer and ended the call he walked back the CO’s seat and got back to business. “Let’s get those cases back on the main screen,” Jason suggested. “Notice anything strange about them? Look at them, there’s no link between where the cases flare up. Not from contact, not from the ventilation system, if it was a malfunctioning food replicator or the water there’d be clusters and a lot more of them. Is it possible that something or someone could be attacking our people on purpose?”

Jason Harn, aCO, changing his post to get the bridge thread moving again

“The computer can be programmed to search for such links and many others.” Kolar started tapping the search parameters… and widened them. “I will execute that.” He pressed the final key. He then looked back to the screen. He didn’t see anything…

Kolar

The display showed that except for the cases mentioned before, there were no other incidences that occurred. While there were fatalities, there were also those who lived with the people who died who did not seem to have been affected at all. As the search parameters widened, there were a few more connections. However, the connections could be explained away by other factors and the malaise came back to the same three instances: the one the remote past, the recent occurrence and the situation on board the Olinski. There was one connection between the latter two situations. There were individuals with Napean DNA present. The older incident did not involve any Napeans.

“What does the most recent occurrance and the situation on the Olinski? With the people affected here, did they have any sort of contact with the people on the planet?” She asked outloud “We can rule out a Napean link.” She said “We don’t have that currently.” She said as she pulled up the details of the most recent outbreak that was not on the Olinski. Did any of the people that fell ill on the ship come in contact with the others?”

CIO

“I can cross reference prior contact of significance. Napeans are rare in the Federation and those making links are even more so.”

“According to these charts, there’s nothing to indicate that any of the afflicted crewmembers came into contact with anyone from the Sierra, or the landing party,” Jason grumbled as he stared at the map of the Olinski that Kolar had put on the main screen. “At least, nobody from the planet who we can see anyway,” he added before glancing at Toro and Kolar self-consciously. “We could be dealing with an interphasic lifeform,” he clarified, “something that doesn’t show up on internal sensors and is invisible to the naked eye, maybe even intangible. All we know is SOMETHING is paralyzing our people.”

Jason Harn, aCO whose player watched the 7th season TNG episode “Sub Rosa” this week https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sub_Rosa_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation)

“We can scan for that…” Kolar offered hopefully. He had to reference the logs from the Enterprise. It was over twenty years ago but the information was still readily available. He dropped his head to his scanner.

Kolar

Upon scanning, he found that there was a very faint energy signature emanating from the patients. They were all led to the room where the two guests from the Sierra was. It was very faint and was not physically harmful. The levels were so low that the ship’s systems did not consider it to be significant to be a security risk. The energy was not an electromagnetic waveform. It was a longitudinal waveform that travelled through matter by causing resonance with the molecules in whatever matter it passed through. As this was a new phenomenon, the LCARs did not have any entry about it. The computer was not able to identify it, assuming it to be an insignificant ambient energy form.

GM

Jason noticed the change in Kolar’s expression immediately. “Find something Mister Balfor?” he asked with a grin as he rose from the command chair and walked over to the science station in order to sneak a peek over his shoulder.

“Yes.” What was insignificant when nothing was going on became very significant when something was.

Jason Harn aCO, violating Kolar’s personal space unnecessarily if Kolar places the energy signature on the main screen with the rest of the documented cases

Tilting his head slightly so he could direct his words to the XO without going face to face. “very faint energy signature emanating from the patients. It was a longitudinal waveform that slides between matter… uncommon. The computer has no record of anything like it. I can send the information to sick bay… perhaps create an inverse wave to neutralize it?”

Balfor Kolar CSO

“Transfer the data to a PADD,” Jason decided. “I’ve been meaning to visit sick bay anyways. Maybe I’m being paranoid but I don’t want any of our visitors to overhear this.”

Toro looked at Kolar and Harn “Did we not have medical check out our guests before we brought them aboard? If so why didn’t the medical scans pick up on such a thing?” She asked “So it is possible that the Sierra has been infected but no one is showing signs…or they are all infected and we need to be aware that they could paralyze our people over there.”

CIO

“I dunno, but these kinds of things are easy to miss if we don’t look for them. I’m interested in finding out if these energy signatures leave and come back. For all we know we could have a couple of interphasic predators hiding in the bodies of unwitting innocents.”

Kolar tilted his head. “Transporters are notorious for not detecting dangers that are not already identified in the computer data base.” Its how half the problems on a ship start he though to himself.

Mirri docked with the Olinski and contacted Sickbay =^=Sickbay this is Lt Lawerance. I have returned to the ship and have been directed to contact you before leaving the shuttle.=^= She said.

Helm

A check on the logs showed that the energy pattern did not show on the scans when the guests came on board.

GM

OOC: Who are the patients who have this strange energy signature? We’re going to be using their names non stop for about a month or so.

Jason Harn, aCO, who probably should have posted earlier

=^= Michaels to Bridge, our patients are moving around in a trance like state.=^= The Counselor called out as they followed Redding. =^= Doolittle, Nurse T’fanni and myself are following Redding right now, but be advised he may not be the only one walking about....=^=

CNS

“Commander, the transporters didn’t detect the energy, because there is no evidence that it existed prior to transport. Which means that the danger would have come from within the ship.”
