Ael saw Sehlat’s movements and a smile crossed his face. She was good. And a bit of a hotshot. They’d work well together. Apex tracked and hunted targets, never pausing, always dodging and weaving, but if you watched closely enough, you could tell he was stalking the target. His Imperial callsign had been “Hatham” meaning predator. He lived up to his name.

-Lt.(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

Jason wasn’t having much luck with his shooting and figured out why. The 24th century had warp capable fighters; leading the target wasn’t as effective as it used to be and there was probably an entirely different technique for it. Either that or he was badly out of practice. The Dominion War had taught Starfleet how fighter combat really worked these days, but Jason was playing catch up.

It was time to switch tactics: He fired a torpedo at the enemy so that the torpedo’s sensors could “home in” on the target. Perhaps using the data from both his fighter and the torpedo could get past the enemy’s subspace countermeasures and tell him where the bad guy REALLY was.

OOC: “Electronic countermeasures” sounds too “present day”

Jason Harn, XO getting “target fixation”

Mayor’s torpedo zipped away from his fighter and began tracking a bandit. The enemy pilot launched flares to draw the torpedo away while bobbing and weaving through the asteroid field attempting to shake it. Between the flares and the evasive maneuvers, the bandit was successful as the torpedo impacted into the side of an asteroid.

But, Mayor’s gambit paid off. He had gotten the information he needed from the torpedo. As the fighter zeroed back around to return fire, Mayor was ready let loose with a barrage of phaser fire. The bandit was struck directly in the cockpit and burst into a fury of explosive lights. . . .

Ricochet (CAG)

Apex brought his Cutlass down and then back up under his next target. Firing his phasers directly into the belly of his opponent. An old trick. But effective. And easy to turn into a hard bank towards the next target. This was like going back to his first flight. The excitement of it. But this time he’d been flying for 32 years. A veteran enjoying being in the cockpit the way a rookie does.

-Lt.(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

Toro brought her fighter into formation and continued to engage the bogeyes. She felt good being back in the cockpit.

CIO

In the simulator’s CIC, Ric was smiling and pleased with the way the pilots were performing. He wanted this exercise to be a valuable lesson, but a little bit of fun as well. It was nice to watch Toro and Harn getting reacquainted with the ship’s fighters. They were both doing well, considering neither had been in a cockpit in awhile, probably more so for Harn. He knew Toro was an accomplished pilot, as she had been the CAG when he was first assigned to the Olinski as an Lt.(jg) all those years ago.

=^=Just like riding a bike, right, Toro?=^=

=^=It is Richochet.=^= Came the reply from the CIO. She brought her fighter back around to re engage the enemy if necessary.
Ricochet (CAG)

Xandra smiled as the comm went off, =^=With all the flying you do, CAG, it’s a surprise ‘you’ know what a bike is. Or perhaps that’s why you were asking?=^= Laughter filtered over her comm as she keyed off. She knew she would pay for it later, but it was nice to jab at the ‘boss’ once in a while, too.

She watched the others, her own targets being hit more often than missed. But she was able to keep some of the fringe stragglers from passing the ‘line’ towards the ship. With luck, they were whittling down the enemy. She took a turn high and wide to see just how many more there were. There was another objective here, and she had to see if that was going to be possible or need to be called in for help.

“Sehlat”

Two bogey’s remained out of the initial group. Before Green Squad would have a chance to eliminate those last two, they blasted out of the asteroid field and jumped to warp speed. As this was only a training exercise, Ric wasn’t too worried about them getting away, plus it gave him a reason to shut the sim down and get a look at Papa Bear, who seemed to be coming around.

=^=Show’s over, Green Squad. Well done, boys and girls. Report to the briefing room in 15.=^= Ric ordered the pilots as he flipped switches to shut down the sim fighters. As the cockpits went dark, he left the CIC and made his way to Papa Bear. “You missed out on all the fun, Papa. How’s your head feel?”

“Boshe moi,” came the reply. “Dat vas dirty trick, comrade Ricochet.”

“Well, I just wanyed to see how you guys would react to the screech. Not so well for you. Let’s take a walk to Sickbay, big fella. Chances are you got a concussion.”

Ricochet (CAG)

Jason pulled his titanic frame out of the training cockpit and removed his helmet, running his hands through his light brown hair. “You were easy on the old man,” he commented to Ric, but his tone didn’t reveal whether going easy on Jason was a good idea or a bad idea.

Jason Harn, XO

Ael climbed out of his simulator. As he stood up straight, he stretched his back a little. The simulator seat was not the most comfortable thing in the galaxy. He took off his helmet, took a deep breath, and said “Oh. That was fun. It’s good to be back.”

-Lt.(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

Ric slapped the Romulan on the shoulder. He liked what he had seen from the pilot. “Good to have you on the team, Apex.”

Toro came out of her training cockpit and slipped off her helmet and walked over to the others “Are you okay Commander?” She asked looking at Harn and then looked at Richochet “I’ll have to fly with you more often.” She said.

CIO

“What? Sure,” Jason nodded as he looked at Ael suspiciously.

“You’re always welcome to join us, Toro. If we get short-handed on a mission and the skipper doesn’t need you, I’ll make sure to put in request to have you fly with us.”

Ricochet (CAG)

Xandra slid from the simulator and listened to the others. “We’d certainly love to have you, anytime, Toro. You as well, Sir,” she said and nodded to the XO as well. “You all did good out there. Ric can be quite the whip master on the sims.” She laughed and winked at her CAG.
Nodding to Ric, she smiled. “Take him to medical. I’ll get everything shut down and finished here.” She moved towards the console and the NE sitting there.

Xandra
Pilot

As the pilots walked away, Jason walked over to Toro. “Hey, do you know what part of Vulcan Apex comes from?” he asked her quietly as he glanced around to make sure they weren’t being overheard.

Jason Harn, XO

Ael watched the other pilots leave. He held his helmet in his hands and looked down at it. Then he heard the XO’s question bouncing of the steel walls and floor. He put his helmet on the rack and walked over. “Um. Excuse me, Cmdr. You were asking where I was born? I was born on Romulus, in the capital.”

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex
