Xandra was sleeping. The child had gone to his mother and the doc has released her. Well, had allowed her to go to the quarters she shared with Ric, anyway. She wasn’t cleared to fly yet till she spoke to the Counselor.

Her dreams were fitful and filled with images of children she couldn’t help, or the cries of the man she loved, but couldn’t find in the maze of corridors on a ship she didn’t recognize. Rounding a corner, unsure if she was chasing the cries of a child or the screams of Ric, she ran into a wall. “This isn’t right.” Her mind reeled and she ran back the way she had come from. But once more, she hit a wall. “But I just came from here… didn’t I?” Twice more she turned and ran, twice more walls blocked her progress. The next time, she rounded the corner and something was there that scared her more than not finding her way. A strangled cry of fear and surprise woke her and she bolted upright, clutching her neck as if still trying to make sure what had reached for her wasn’t still there.

Lt Xandra Primage
“Sehlat” Pilot/Wing Ldr

As Xandra sat up, the sudden movement roused Ric out of his sleep. Her cries alerted him as his eyes opened. He wrapped his arms around her and tried to calm her.

“Shhhhh, it’s okay, Xan. It’s okay. It’s just a bad dream. I’m right here. There’s noting to be afraid of. . . . .”

He held tight as her breathing slowly began to relax.

She stiffened as Ric held her. But then she relaxed against him and shook her head. Her breath was still shaky. “Something was reaching for my neck. But it wasn’t me, then it was…” she closed her eyes and let him lay them back down. Rolling over to curl into him, she laughed.

“Some hot shot pilot I am. I spend an afternoon with an infant and now I’m having nightmares. Maybe I will speak to the Counselor tomorrow like you wanted.” She sighed. “Though I have no idea what I’d say. Hi, I’m a pilot who’s flown in combat and been in near death situations. Couple days ago I held a baby and now I can’t sleep.” She laughed lightly, but it was bordering on hysterical.

Xandra
Pilot/ big baby

Laying back himself, Ric let her settle into a comfortable position and began stroking her hair. “I think that’s a good idea, love. I’ll go with you if you want?”

His concerns for Xandra were two-fold. First, she was one hell of a pilot and squad leader. He’d hate to lose her skills in a dogfight. Secondly, and more importantly, he was deeply in love with her and hated seeing her in this shape. When they had met and spent that first night together, she had been so carefree with no worries. . . you’re typical fighter pilot, living life to the fullest and enjoying every moment in the cockpit.

Now, it seemed she was losing her confidence and was becoming more cautious and reserved. It seemed like she was almost waiting for the next time someone or something would take control of her again.

“Xandra, just what exactly do you remember about being in Pitch’s quarters?”

Ricochet (CAG)
