Kolar tapped his badge as he headed to the transporter room. =^=Drake, Faraday, Gray… I need you or someone from your department to suit up and assist me with the review of the Tholan ship… Its toasty over there so hardened equipment.=^= Kolar didn’t hate the suit as much as most people did. Of course he would of preferred a cooler location, but being on a Tholan ship without being a prisoner was a rare event.

He put on a equipment belt and a magnetic comm device under one of his straps of his boot. He clipped a phaser and a tricorder on his belt.

Kolar X

OOC: Can you take our new JO in Security. It would tie in very nicely with the boarding post I am doing with her right now. Thanks.

Sidney

Faraday entered a few minutes later, helmet under one arm, engineering kit strapped over his shoulder. “I have to say, Commander,” he said, adjusting the strap, “that ‘safety inspections,’ even fake ones, were not on the list of things I thought I’d be doing aboard the Olinski. Guess they really did mean anything was possible.”

He lifted his hand to access the arm computer, cycling the system through several diagnostics - especially the internal cooling system. These hardened suits were designed for even more harsh environments than the one he’d worn aboard the Cardassian vessel. “All systems check,” he said, then shifted the grip on his helmet.

CE Faraday

“Do you know how many engineers have inspected a Tholan ship?” Kolar looked at him. “I don’t know of any. If you do a half decent job, you might be the new expert on Tholan mechanics for the next decade.”

Kolar

The Transporter operator reported, “We are ready to transport.”

GM

OOC: I can head over but I’d like a few other people showing up.

Luke

These suits were never tail friendly, no matter what any designer says or promises. It took slightly longer to suit up but she managed it in good time and grabbed her standard security compliment on the way out. Ensign Ko entered the transporter room right after the transport operator spoke. “Ensign Ko, reporting for away team.” She secured her helmet before taking her spot on the transport pad. The helmets were ear friendly, but dulled her hearing just enough to make her brain think her ears were clogged.

Ensign Ko (security)

“Ever interact with a Tholan?” Kolar looked over… They always reminded him of angular, crystalline spiders… all at about 200 degrees Celsius. “They can be a little… temperamental.”

Kolar

OOC: My apologies for not posting earlier. Is the away team ready to beam over?

GM

OOC: I guess. Can we add players later as the get more involved?

OOC: I think your good. CE,CSO and a Security JO plus yourself. Maybe the new CMO if he wanted to join.

James clunked in holding an equipment case, a tricorder, and Phaser attached to the waist of his suit, he seemed a little disheveled behind his helmet, he didn’t mind the suit but shoving his head in this bucket of a helmet always annoyed him, he disliked having his sensitive hearing dampened “Was that a joke Commander” He said smiling at the first officer as he joined the rest of the team.

CSO

M’rahja smirked at the joke, and answered “I have never interacted with a Tholan. I know about their history with Starfleet and their various trade agreements, but that is all.” As a nerd for all things diplomacy, she’s read all she could about Tholan interactions with the Federation. And refreshed herself on their cultural practices as much as possible.

Ensign Ko (Security)

“Lets hit the ground. Tholans, tend to be territorial and precise. Don’t use terms and phrases that can be miscronstrued or left up to interpretation.”

“Energize.”

Kolar

James nodded his head, he’d never met or spoken to a Tholian thus making this an exciting mission even if it wasn’t for the express purpose of learning more about them.

CSO

Sidney

The team materialised in a very bright cube. It was clear that they had beamed into some kind of containment field. The temperature was not exactly hot, but the bright lighting gave the impression of heat.

“Good tidings, Starfleet,” came a voice as a Tholian moved into view. “It would be difficult for you to move freely in our environment as your equipment might fuse and cause danger to your life.” The tricorder was able to ascertain that the temperature outside the containment was about 227 Celsius, or 440 Fahrenheit or 500 Kelvin. The data had always been that the Tholians lived at a temperature of about 207 Celsius, or 404 Fahrenheit or 480 Kelvin. Whilst generally safe, the Tholians were right to say that their equipment might not take prolonged exposure to the 20 degree difference.
“I am Commander Hozu. How may I be of assistance?”

GM

Behind the glass of his environment suit Thomas’s brows furrowed. He wrinkled his nose, but the Tholian was correct about the equipment. He lifted the tricorder, trying to see what else he could ascertain about the world beyond the containment field. A twenty-degree difference was… huge. Was it something with this new design, or had their environmental needs changed that much in the… 200 years since they’d really had a look inside a Tholian vessel?

CE Faraday

“I am Commander Balfor, Lieutenant Faraday, Grey, and Ensign Ko.” Starting with a endearing comment. “We are pleased we could assist you in defending yourself. Your government and ours has authorized a review of the ship particularly the areas that could have safety concerns. I imagine, power systems, weapons, and other new technology would fall under this? ” Kolar smiled, although that might not mean what he thought it did.

Kolar

Faraday listened to Kolar and Hozu with one ear as he scanned with his tricorder, trying to see if he could get readings from outside the containment field, and perhaps why the lighting was so bright. Containment field, he thought. This kind of temperature and pressure differential it’s practically a shield.

CE Faraday

“I want to split up,” Kolar started, “we can cover more ground that way.” It would be easier to isolate and entrap them as well, but given they were virtually alone on an enemy starship, them being together wouldn’t make much of a difference.

Kolar

“That would be impractical,” replied Hozu. “We have had not prepared for non-Tholians to be peaceful on board and the containment field you are in has been recently put together. It would not be possible to have two or more containment fields.”

GM

James nodded at the alien’s point, he doubted they could prepare any better for Tholian Visitors on the Olinski, the difference was just too vast to make anything suitable on short notice.

CSO

“We will move to the areas that were damaged by the Breen attack …” began Hozu. He moved and the containment field moved slightly behind him. They were led to the midship area, where there were visible weapon damage on the hull. There were also damaged consoles. As they turned the corner, they saw two damaged web spinner ships. The hulls of the ships were dented and showed plasma burns.

GM

“”If that’s what is necessary. We aren’t trying to be difficult. Aside from damaged areas what happens to be on the tour?”

Kolar nodded towards James and then to his tricorder.

Kolar

James returned the nod and removed his tricorder and started the general scan.

CSO

“I was unaware you were able to launch fighter craft… or did this happen while they were still in launching position?”

Kolar

“The launching mechanism was damaged when the Breen hit us,” replied Hozu. “We were unable to made proper repairs during the attack. The Breen knew exactly where to attack.”

GM

“And it seems they caught you by surprise, no offense. What is your hypothesis for this level of success.” Kolar thought this was too convenient.

Kolar

“What was more worrying was that they were able to slip past our remote alert probes. They entered Tholian space and came at us from the opposite direction. Normally we would be able to detect anyone coming into our space. This time we did not detect them,” replied Nazu. “A ship this size does have the disadvantage of being less manoeuvrable.”

GM

“That information might be tactically valuable. The Breen are upset that we aided you. If you can relay that tactical information to us, we may prevent a surprise attack on us while we are giving you safe harbor.”

=^=Kolar to Captain Parker, Apparently the Breen somehow evaded the Tholian sensor pickets and hit them from inside their own territory. Our escort, Hozo, was just about to forward that tactical data to prevent a repeat here.” Kolar implied that this was already going to happen to socially pressure the Tholian… if that worked on Tholians.

James continued the general scan with his tricorder, bashing the thing a few times “Blasted thing” He mumbled several other colorful curses willing the device to give the data it seemed to refuse.

CSO

It wasn’t that the tricorder was malfunctioning but that the scans were muddled due to the high temperatures and the fact that the air was being ionised due to the high temperatures. However, if one compensated for the various factors in the Tholian environment they were in, he would be able to see that the ship was basically like a web spinner carrier, similar to the aircraft carriers of Earth in the 20th and 21st centuries. Unlike the aircraft carriers of old, the large ship was able to launch the web spinners like torpedoes. However, there were several contraptions in the large ship that could explain how the web spinners returned to the ship. He needed to get more time to retrieve data so that the tricorder could get a proper analysis.

GM

Kolar

Ensign Ko stayed quiet while they took their tour of the ship and observed the damage done. Her ears perked up at the mention that the Breen had essentially slipped in from behind to attack. Her first thought was a cloaking device of some sort, or some kind of signal jammer to prevent the alert probes from alerting the Tholians. Neither idea sat well with her. She was a security officer, one trained for for ground combat with enemies she can see and react too. If the Breen ship attacked again then what could she do?

“Could someone have leaked the ship schematics or information about the alert probes?” She wondered out loud. If the Breen knew how to get in and where to shoot, well, how did they know that? Perhaps it wasn’t a matter of their stealth capabilities, but a matter of key information?

Ensign Ko

OOC: sorry, was out on personal stuff, can the CMO still hop in the story somehow?
Rusty

OOC: Of course. Join this group of rascals if you like. Great chance to study Tholian physiology up close.

Nazu sounded irritated when he replied to Ensign Ko. “We have, of course, considered the possibility of a traitor. However, it is highly improbable, seeing that the schematics of this ship was highly classified. Only a select number of us are aware of this level of detail.”

GM

James sighed as he finally understood what was going on with his trusty little tricorder. He immediately began compensating for the extra heat, silently cursing himself for not doing so immediately, he’d gotten too caught up in being on a Tholian ship to make such a simple calibration “It’ll take me some time to get a proper analysis” He said not looking up from his scanner, his face contorted for a moment before fixing on a thoughtful expression ruined by a tongue hanging slightly outside his lips as if he were considering biting it.

CSO

“Do your best.” Kolar looked over. He was glad he didn’t bring his personal tricorder. Wouldn’t want to subject it to this environment. Let James damage his stuff.

Sidney

=^= Clear Number One. Thanks for that update=^=

Parker CO

“Maybe they’ve found a weakness in your sensor protocols? It wouldn’t be the first time someone made a breakthrough on the enemy. The Breen basically shut down a Federation/Klingon Fleet with a secret weapon. You might be fortunate that it didn’t cost you 20,000 lives to learn of it.”

Kolar

“This is news to me,” said Nazu. “Did the Federation ever discover the secret weapon? Did you develop a counter?”

GM

“Happened during the Dominion War. 2375, at the Second Battle of Chin’toka. I can send you the reference. If you’d like.” Kolar offered freely. “Did you have the other details of the Breen attack?”

“It was similar to the energy dampeners you have,” Faraday added, looking around at the damaged areas. “Did they solely target the launch areas?” He lifted the tricorder, trying to tune it to account for the environmental disturbances to get readings on the damage. “Or anything else? Life support, weapons, engines?”

Lt. Burcham who had been silent and observant for most of the time on the mission decided to finally speak. “We are here because the ship attacked, and unless I’m missing something, no one has actually mentioned if there are any injured.” He inquired.
Lt. Burcham, CMO

Kolar

Faraday grimaced inside for not thinking of potential casualties. He was focused on the damage to the infrastructure and for learning about the ship, but he still should have thought of the Tholian losses. Did Tholians grieve their dead? What were their customs like for funerals? He mentally shook himself and refocused on the tricorder.

CE Faraday

Ensign Ko’s ears would have flicked back in annoyance but, and perhaps for the best, her rigid helmet kept her ears in place. Though the Tholian could dismiss it, she couldn’t quite make herself do the same. At the mention of the injured, Ensign Ko wondered if they were of any concern to the Tholian. Casualties and injury were apart of ship life. Not that they weren’t important. But in this scenario she could understand that the questions were centered around the how and why before looking towards the injured.

What good would it do them if they couldn’t prevent another attack? A potential attack that could come suddenly and without warning. She would prioritize preventing another before putting resources and time towards recovery.

Ensign Ko

Nazu paused. “We had casualties. Not directly due to the attack to the ejectors but the suddenness of the attack before the shields went up caused individuals to lose their footing and they ended up where the damage areas were. Falling debris and fire got some of our crew. We managed to get our shields after the first hits and we were able to defend ourselves. I believe the captain’s strategy was to lead the attackers away from Tholian space and at the same time make repairs. Although we were protected by the shields, we were not able to make repairs to the ejectors when Starfleet arrived, and thus our web spinners were not able to deploy. However, Starfleet bought us time to regroup ourselves.”

GM

Kolar nodded. They would have to close really fast to get into weapons range so quickly. “What is the next location on this review?”

Kolar looked about. Normally he would be scanning, but that was no longer his job. “Is there any chance we can review your combat scanner information from the engagement.”

Kolar

Thomas cursed the containment field and the surrounding environment for their interference. Without scans he was mostly useless here. He pulled up his wrist computer and started diagramming what he could see - ostensibly to determine if there was any way they could assist with repairs. He added guesses on material composition, then deactivated his external speakers and started a recording a running dialogue.
