The captain was not happy about this assignment. However he had looked over a lot of files and kept coming back to this one. She was rough. Not the polished but dangerous intel type. Just the dangerous type. However she has a very strong right and wrong compas if he was reading the file well enough with all the redactions. A quality that was usually missing in intel. Now her view of how to let out punishment for those doing wrong was decidedly not the normal one. Psychopathic was a possible definition.

However she got things done and had the intel others could not get. Exactly what he needed for this Xindi mission. He was not sure if he would keep her on but he needed her now. Toro had left and being honest never developed into the CIO he needed. It was time to go outside the box.

He had summoned her to his Ready Room and now awaited her arrival. If she had read his jacket and done any research into him she would know he was usually by the book but willing to throw it out if necessary. He did not tolerate insubordination nor laziness. Doing great work was expected and loyalty demanded and earned.

Rebecca had received the summons and rolled her eyes. She had thought about ignoring but decided not to. She changed back into the monkey suit star fleet called a uniform and left her quarters. Rebecca did hate the uniform but the thought of all those prissy officers who didn’t want her in it, seeing her in it brightened he day. She loved showing the holier then though officers what the real world was like and Rebecca was a shining example of that, from her muscular build, to her bad mouth to the burns that adorned her body. The real world was tough and harsh.

She didn’t know if the captain knew what the real world was like, reading someone file only goes so far but she figured she’d find out soon enough. A few minutes later she was at the captains ready room, she rang the chime and waited.

Lieut Lane (CIO)

“ Enter.” He called out.

He had seen her file and photo. He was still surprised a little by the scars. Not the usual for SF officers. Not a bad or good thing. He imagined she wore them with pride. Her psych profile indicated as much.

“Lt. come in and have a seat.” He ordered.

The Captain was not one of these guys impressed with a tough guy attitude. He was impressed with good work and loyalty to the ship, him and the crew.

Rebecca walked into the office and quickly surveyed the room. looking for anything that would give an insight into the man she was about to talk to. She crossed the room and gave one of the two padds she was carrying to the Captain “I think you need this Captain” she sad simply as she took a seat. The padd was her transfer orders “First time I’ve dealt with actual written down orders” she added.

The Captain took the orders and looked at them and then sat them down on his desk.

“So what can I do for you Captain?” she asked her tone, the normal and for Rebecca the naturally cold one.

Lieut Lane (CIO)

“Thats not the questions to be answered Lt. The question is what can you do for me?” He asked with a non expression on his face.

He knew a person this deep into Intel did not need this explained. This was her opportunity to tell him why she was unique and could give the Olinski an edge it needed on the enemy. Especially this enemy that they had so little to go in.

Rebecca scoffed “Straight to point, that’s refreshing” she said simply a half smile n her face for a moment.

“It would probably be easier to ask m what I can’t do for you? But you asked what I can do so, I’ll try and sum it all up” she said pausing for a moment to think where best to start.

“Well star feet intelligence officer are good and many veer into the darkness every now and then, but they all suffer from the same affliction its one that infects all star fleet officers. They went to the academy, so they have all fallen victim to indoctrination and brain washing to make them believe the star fleet myth and the fake image it and the federation put up. I however never went tot he academy so that indoctrination didn’t happen. Sow hen an enemy faces us thy ill expect star fleet tactics and morals I don’t have those. It will give them a bit of a shock I think, which should be an advantage.” As she spoke Rebecca’s tone was cold and almost unemotional however it was clear she believed what she said.

“Then there is my web of contacts, it was once said by a group I was tasked to hunt down, which I did. That was fun day. That I had informants on ever habitable planet in the galaxy. While I won’t say whether that is true or not. I do have a very extensive network, Many of them obtained through various means during my ‘civilian’ work. I have informant or two in star fleet command, Bump off an admirals mistress when his wife gets to close, and you find your self with a very nice tool in your arsenal. The there’s the federation council members who owe me a favour. But its not just star fleet, the Klingon empire, the Romulan star empire , the Orion syndicate, the Ferengi alliance and the traditionist and so on all have friends of mine who whisper ever so sweetly into my ear. That’s not even mentioning all the criminals and civilians who owe me favours. The galaxy has no shortage of people who need my skill set, so that means there is no end to who I could have as a contact.” As Rebecca there was a pride in her voice and when she mentioned dealing with the group, there was genuine amusement in her voice as if it was a fond memory.

“Then i guess the last thing I could say about giving you an edge would be this” she said reaching for where her shoulder holster would be, when her hand touched nothing she sighed and shook her head “Oh yeah I’m not allowed to carry my weapon. I think it’s the first time I have haven’t had it near me. Oh well” she said as she put her hand on the desk. Just because she wasn’t carrying her main weapon to assume she was defenceless would be a massive mistake. She was deadly without it and she always had something concealed on her person in case she needed it. “My weapons give me an edge in most situations. Modern technology is not designed to deal with projectile weapons and sensors do not scan for them. As you know if you fire a phaser on a ship without permission every alarm on that ship goes off. However they are not designed to detect my weapons which means if I need to infiltrate anywhere the chances of detecting me even if I fire my weapon is very low. They are also a way of bypassing most shields, shields which are designed to dissipate energy weapons not bullets. Then there the whole Borg can’t adapt t them thing. Which is handy although I hope we never face that lot.” she said pausing for now. There was a lot more she could talk about like how her previse career as a gun for hire gave her a wide field of experience and her lack of empathy, compassion or mercy to her enemies, which made it virtually impossible for her enemies to try and talk her out of something her convince her to join them.

Lieut Lane (CIO)

The Captain had known he was taking on a loose cannon in a sense. Not her discipline and control but rather her dubious methods. She had what the Captain considered the good sociopath qualities. The ends justified the means but the ends were based in the right. She knew right from wrong and chose the right. She just did not care how she arrived at that right. He had made that choice to test her out. However he needed her to know there were definable limits on his ship.

“I’m not shocked by what you are telling me nor do I believe you care if I was. However Lt. there has to be rules. I will allow you to operate as needed but when it comes to the crew, any crew, your unorthodox measures need to be cleared through me if it brings them harm. I know you feel that the ends justify the means and in your sphere of work that makes sense. However ,if say, you needed to leverage the CE with a secret that would possibly make him pliable to give you information he might need to get permission to release in order to get an angle on one of his team members who may be doing something that could endanger the ship etc..I expect to know this. Why? Because a CE under this kind of pressure could effect his job. I would rather just order him to give the info in a private and confidential manner and avoid the black cloak crap. So that is my limit for you.” He said and continued to look straight at her.

Parker CO

“On the contrary Captain I care and am very surprised by your reaction. The other star fleet officers I’ve dealt with in the past get very agitated and offended, when I dare to question the gospel of the federation. So your reaction is very refreshing and makes me think that I may have, potentially, finally found an officer who understands the true motives of the federation.” she said simply “But we shall see” she added

“As for your rule, I can learn to deal with it. However not all situation require a soft touch and if you some how become incapacitated, or out of contact I will not be able to get your blessing.” she said after a short pause. She wasn’t being difficult at least not in her opinion she just wanted to outline all the possibilities regarding the rule, that could come to pass.
