The Olinski’s new CAG had just finished settling into his quarters when he headed up to Deck 2 to handle one of the more important duties for his new Command… checking in with the ‘Boss’. It was a rather long ride to Deck 2 and for about two minutes of it, Malcolm had been joined by two cute junior Science officers… a redhead JG named Jenny and a brunette Ensign named Ashley. As was the norm, they asked about what he was doing on the Olinski and when he informed them he was a fighter pilot in charge of all the ship’s fighters & bombers they both giggled excitedly and asked where the flyboys liked to hangout. Mal had assured them they’d likely ‘invade’ the Observation Lounge on the regular basis, to which both women became almost giddy. Dawkins breathed a sigh of relief that the two got off the turbolift before the inevitable question for his number came up. Both had blushed and promised to “See him around” before scooting off on Deck 15.

Moments later, the lift doors hissed open admitting Lt. Colonel Malcolm Dawkins, SFMC, to the corridor outside the Captain’s Office. The Marine walked smartly to the door and rang the chime.

LTC Dawkins, CAG

The Captain knew who was outside his door. He had been expecting the new CAG. He also knew the man was military and not a straight Starfleet Officer. His last two CAGs had been. His fighter command all the way back to Matheson had been. However it made sense to transition them to military personnel. There were enlisted crew under them anyway.

So he welcomed it. He was after all somewhat strict in his command and preferred strong discipline. Also knowing they were still fly boys and girls. With a penchant for reckless behavior. Especially after hours. It was again time for changes to the ship. Now only he and Kolar remained. The ship was shaking into as harder edge and given it’s challenges and those facing Starfleet it was a natural change.

“Enter.” He called out as the door swooshed open.

Parker

LTC Malcolm Dawkins, a tall… darker bi-racial Marine aviator stepped through the door, his uniform perfect. Stopping exactly one pace before the Captain’s desk, the man snapped a parade ground salute and spoke in a measured… practiced tone. “Captain Parker, Lt. Colonel Malcolm Dawkins… reporting for duty… Sir.”

Dawkins, CAG

“At ease Lt. Col. have a seat.” He ordered.

Malcolm followed the directions of his new Commanding Officer, taking a seat smartly but relaxed. He carried himself confidently and was unwaveringly proud of his Service and it’s uniform.

The Captain could immediately see that this guy was a hard core Marine.

“How was the trip over here?” He asked.

The Captain opened with two guys and a beer question. The hard ones would come.

Parker CO.

“Not too bad.” Dawkins smiled. “It’s actually nice to be back out in the Black. I’ve been on Leave for a few months and after my fiancée’s unit was called back to start standing up for deployment… I’ve just been spending time back home with family and…” The Marine chuckled. “… likely watching more baseball than is reasonably healthy!” The Marine had shifted slightly and was noticeably brighter after mentioning his partner. “The trip over itself wasn’t too bad, I was able to catch a ride with my old crew on the Annapolis. It was great to see a few friends and be able to actually stretch my legs. Usually ferry trips involve merely the inside of one’s cockpit for three to five days and the uncomfortableness that comes with the plumbing required for extended Deep Space travel when one can’t make regular pitstops.” Dawkins visibly winched at the thought of the hook ups needed when attached to the outside of a non-Hangar Bay ship.

Dawkins, CAG

The Captain gave a half smile and tilt of the head.

“Not a jockey per se but qualified as a bomber pilot.” The Captain said as way of letting the man know he had a knowledge of the job if not a full time experience.

“Prefer the big chair and restroom facilities myself. “ he added.

Dawkins’ smiled and chuckled softly. “My Ellie prefers the gum, to be honest. The bathrooms and Replicator aren’t a bad thing to have though!”

“ I read your file. Impressive. Am I to understand you are engaged to your Second?” The Captain meant the second in command and yea he had done his homework.

He didn’t say it but he was basically saying how brave the new CAG was and also inquiring if that could be a problem.

Parker CO

The CAG smiled proudly. “I am Sir. She’s a great gal but we tend to fly in separate circles work wise, if you’ll forgive the pun.” He paused for just a moment then added. “Eleanor is a damn fine pilot, Skip. She’s one of only a handful of Colorblind Federation pilots to ever qualify on the Tempies and works incredibly hard at her job. I understand that some might be concerned of having one’s partner in his personal Chain but I am very familiar with the regs and can assure you that she & I will have no problems in that regard. As far as disciplinary actions, in those instances, the Book says if Carnegie has issues… it should be forwarded to the Exec for an unbiased investigation and I intend to do just that if the situation ever occurs.” The Marine said confidentially. “Believe me Sir, if I thought… or Ellie thought for that matter… this would be a problem, one of us would transfer. That I guarantee.”

Dawkins, CAG

“Very well.” The Captain said as a way of saying that was enough said on the issue.

“Two points. What are your plans for the Wing given we are changing from a SF Wing model to a Marine model. Second what are your plans for Lt. Khev who is a SF fighter pilot? She has been loyal and key in more than one engagement.” He asked.

Parker CO

Dawkins nodded as if expecting the question. “With my arrival as CAG, Carrier Wing 14 reverted automatically to a Composite Wing, Sir…” He held up a hand and ticked off as he counted. “… the Red Lions of Strike Fighter Squadron 56 retain their all-Fleet flight crews and ground support personnel. Whereas the Green Vipers of Strike Fighter Squadron 47 revert to their original Corps affiliation, that goes for flight crews & support personnel. Ellie’s squadron, the 81st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, is a new squadron and is truly composite in nature… with her four Recon birds being Corps, and a flight of four each of Fleet & Marine bombers. Support personnel are divided in the same fashion.” He paused and then added. “As for the Lieutenant, I plan on putting him in charge of the Red Lions. He’s got a good record and I think the new role will be a nice fit.”

Dawkins, CAG

“Very well Colonel. I do not attempt to run the Air Wing. I consider it your command. However as you might imagine I will overrule any order given on the ship if I feel it is necessary to accomplish the overall goal, keep the ship safe or any other critical reason I might consider. As to that happening, its unlikely with an experienced CAG as yourself running the Wing.” He said as he edged back into his chair.

“I do expect pilots to get a little out of line from time to time. Your crew would not be the first to do it on this ship. However don’t come to me if they do not like the consequence of that. No passes here and the CoS will lock them into the brig. They won’t come out even if the BORG are attacking. Measure twice and cut once before you act.” The Captain added as he now leaned forward in his chair.

Parker CO

Malcolm chuckled softly, nodding. “Trust me Skipper, if any of my flyers or support staff end up in the Brig… you’ll have no complaints on my end if they did something stupid. Better they cool their jets before they get someone hurt.” After a pause, Dawkins added. “Thank you for your confidence Skip. For me, it’s been an… interesting… career so far and I look forward to what the future holds for me & the Wing.”

Dawkins then added. “Are there any other questions you have about me or the Wing Sir?”

Dawkins, CAG
