The first days on board a new vessel were always full of things to do, and yet, given her new promotion and job posting, Carnegie’s first few days on board the Olinski had been some of the busiest she’d ever experienced. They still didn’t come close to her first few days on board the Chimera three years prior, when then 2nd Lieutenant Thunderhawk had managed to dent the carrier’s bulkhead while docking his craft and Eleanor had had the dressing down of her life. All of that was past now.

It had only been when Carnegie had nudged the Sentinels crew to go do their checkups that she realized she hadn’t done hers either.

“The Counselor is Fleet, Ma’am! I wouldn’t mind going if it was a Marine one!”

“Yeah, I’d go see a Marine Counselor! I don’t trust Fleeters to do a good job on these psych evals!”

The complaints and protests had come in many forms but for the most part their gist was one and the same.

“You know Lady, if you want us to go through our Psych Evals, maybe you should set an example and do it first!”

Even after Sloan’s two glasses of whiskey and Eleanor’s five shots of vodka, her Flight Engineer’s reasoning was sound.

Carnegie sighed. “Fine…! I’ll set the example.”

And that was why Eleanor was standing in front of the door to the CNS’s office, proudly wearing her flight suit, clearly setting herself apart from the regular Starfleet crew. In a world were most vision problems could be corrected without issue, the pair of glasses that framed her eyes would make Carnegie an even weirder sight.

With a deep breath and a nod to no one in particular but herself, Eleanor pressed the chime and waited.

Maj. Carnegie, Blue Squadron Leader

As Gibbs was sitting at his desk he heard his chime go off and was wondering who it was. He then pondered for a little bit and then said “Enter!” As his voice carried to the door where Carnegie could hear him. Not realizing that she was not a part of starfleet, it was different for him. Now knowing that, he looked at her assignment record.

After he saw her he said “Please come in and have a seat. What can I do for you?” He has asked her. His job as the counselor wasn’t as busy as the other departments so he basically stayed in his office until someone had an appointment or someone who needed their psych eval taken care of.

OOC: Just as an FYI, Marines are still very much part of Starfleet, much like in many countries today, where Marines tend to be part of the national Navy (and Starfleet would be the equivalent of a naval force). Yet, Marines tend to see themselves as a single large special forces group. :) – Joana

Walking into the Counselor’s office, Eleanor looked briefly around, curious about her surroundings. The way one kept their own space told much about the person living or working in it.

Sitting down on the offered seat, Carnegie smiled at the counselor. “Thank you, Lieutenant. I’m here for my psych eval.” Her smile faded slightly at the mention of the evaluation, but it was back almost instantly. “I should also apologize for the delay in having my crew doing the same. You know how it goes, people don’t like psychological evaluations.” She smiled apologetically and shrugged slightly. “I can’t speak for the other Squadrons, but I can assure you that once I’m done here, I’m expecting the whole crew of The Sentinels to come by to get their evals out of the way. You’ll have your hands full, that’s for sure.” Eleanor chuckled softly, hoping to break the ice.

Maj. Carnegie, Blue Squadron Leader

OOC: Thanks.

IC: As the counselor sat down at his desk in front of the Major. He then said, “Well don’t worry major. I know very well how to work with Psych Eval. Don’t worry. Everything we say is only between me and my patients. So I see that you’re not to fond of Psych Evals to begin with mind me asking why? I’m just kind of curious. I don’t want to pry anything open if you don’t want to tell me. But it would be nice for me to know and note into my notes while we are here discussing things before I send you off to duty. That’s if you want to tell me.” He said as he offered the Major. “So tell me a little about yourself.” He said.

CNS Gibbs.

Carnegie’s eyes widened in surprise at the counselor’s question, the corner of her lip twitching slightly as if she was trying to contain a chuckle. “I don’t know anyone that is fond of psychological evaluations… just like I don’t know anyone that is fond of medical examinations. No one likes to have their brain picked, counselor, but I’m sure you already know that.” Unless of course, he was new to the job. Eleanor pondered on the idea for a moment. The man was a full Lieutenant, surely Starfleet didn’t promote someone that inexperienced, right?

At the counselor’s request for her to tell him a little about herself, Eleanor sighed softly. Not in annoyance, but rather at the prospect of framing what she needed to say. “Well, I was born on Earth, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States of America, to be more precise. I have two brothers, both older than me, of whom I am very fond of.” A proud smile settled on her lips. “As for my place on the Olinski, I am the Commander of the Sentinels, our Reconnaissance squadron. They are everything a Commanding Officer could ask for and I couldn’t be more proud of them.” The same proud smile remained. “And of course, I am immensely happy to be a part of Carrier Wing 14.”

Maj. Carnegie, Blue Squadron Leader

“Well I must be impressed. Being a fighter pilot like you, you should be proud of what you do. I’m sure your squadron is glad to have someone like you. I know that the captain is grateful to have you here on the Olinski. Just so you know. Like I said. it is doctor patient confidentiality. So whatever we say is going to be between you and me. No one else. I must say, you are a good officer that the captain could ever ask. Well everything seems right. You’re all set to go back to duty. If you have any questions, comments or concerns my door is always open. Do you have any questions or comments or concerns for me right now?” He said.

CNS

Ah, Fleeters… somehow they always managed to mix things up. Still, with a grin Carnegie replied. “Thank you counselor. I am indeed very proud of what I do, even though I’m not a fighter pilot.” Qualified to fly them? Yes, but it wasn’t her job. “Our Recon birds are Rangers. In other words, they are modified bombers. We have space to move around and a bathroom for when we need it.” She chuckled. “Commodities fighter jocks don’t have.”

Eleanor knew about doctor patient confidentiality. After all, this was far from her first rodeo – in regular Starfleet ranks, her Marine rank of Major was equivalent to that of a Lieutenant Commander. So she had quite a few years of experience under her belt. However, she said nothing. Instead, she nodded and stated “I have no questions or comments at this time Lieutenant, but rest assured that I’ll come by if I need your advice.” With a smile, she waited to see if there was anything else the counselor wanted to discuss.

Maj. Carnegie, Blue Squadron Leader

“Alright Major. Good luck.” He said with a smile.

CNS

With a nod, Eleanor stood up. “Thank you, Lieutenant.” She said with a smile. And with that, she turned around and left the office.
