“I’m thinking, Jason, as long as we don’t have anymore sandstorms like the one we just saw, there shouldn’t be any problems. We need science to keep an eye that area. If those storms are common, someone needs to get into that shuttle a fly it out. Anyone on the planet should be safe as long as they stay inside, like inside the Sierra. A ship that size isn’t going to be blown away by some winds.”

Ricochet (CAG)

“Oh really?” Jason casually asked while turning to address one of the sensor operators. “Let’s see the landing site.” The image on a large screen on nearby wall changed to display the shuttle’s landing site with meteorological data displayed in the bottom right corner. The holographic image on the “billiards table” also changed to display the shuttle’s landing site, with topographical details of the surrounding area displayed in three dimensions.

Jason frowned. “You’re right Ric; the weather has cleared up,” he commented before contacting the bridge. =^=Harn to bridge. Any update from the away team?
=^=

Jason Harn, aCO

=^=Balfor to Olinski, Everything seems to be moving along Commander. The Captain reported he landed to effect repairs and that the storm clogged his intakes and made the procedure more difficult. The landing team is assisting where ever possible and there a few caualties… the doctor is reviewing them.=^=

Jason glanced back at Ric to smile sheepishly before turning and speaking to the holographic image of the landing site. =^=Acknowledged Balfor. Will it be necessary to evacuate any of them?=^=

Jason Harn, aCO

=^=I as of yet haven’t gotten any updates from Dr. Doolittle. No news in this case means good news,=^= Kolar’s voice reported.

Ric leaned in a little closer to Harn and suggested, “Ask him if they’ve got an estimate on the time to affect repairs and get that boat back in the sky.”

“Good call,” Jason nodded. =^=Any idea how long repairs to the Sierra will take until she’s spaceworthy?=^= he asked.

The CAG spoke to the person that had been checking the weather. “I want a long range forecast, in case it takes longer to get the Sierra in the air. I don’t want another sandstorm sneaking up on our people down there.”

Ricochet (CAG)

=^=Sir, something doesn’t seem right.=^= Toro’s voice broke in. =^=I’m not an engineer, but it doesn’t seem like they should have had to land. I’m still working on finding more information on the passengers and the crew through my channels.=^=

=^=Hold, Kolar. standby,=^= Jason instructed. =^=Toro, what do you mean? Are you saying that there’s nothing wrong with the Sierra?=^=

Jason Harn, aCO

=^=Its going to be silica, sand… basically, that will turn into glass. I don’t see how that will be a problem.=^= Kolar continued talking as if the Commander had asked him a completely different question. He also walked away from the Captain on the transport and reset the audio so it only went to his ear.

Kolar

It took Jason almost four seconds to process the implications. =^=I see, well give me a call when you have something to report,=^= the first officer said in that casually informal manner of his. =^=Harn out.=^= He turned to face Ric. “I get the feeling that Kolar found something he didn’t want to say in mixed company. Do you think that the officers of the Sierra are keeping something from us?”

Jason Harn, aCO

Ric scratched his head for a moment. “There is something that’s been nagging at the back of my cranium. We made it safely to the planet, because we had a map of the trail to follow without setting off any mines. The Sierra wouldn’t have access to that information. I’m no engineer, but from what I’m hearing, they could have easily made their repairs without landing. Whoever plotted their course to the surface was very lucky or had some inside information. I’d say the odds are pretty slim that their course matches ours.”

Ricochet (CAG)

OOC: Is the Sierra a Starfleet vessel or a civilian transport?

Jason Harn

OOC: A Starfleet vessel that happens to be carrying civilians this time.

GM

“I don’t know, Ric, the Sierra is a Starfleet vessel, just as we are. If they were scheduled to fly through this system, they’d have the all of known mines charted,” Jason mused as he stroked his manly chin. “But you bring up a good point. A planetside landing is riskier than remaining if orbit. Why land if you don’t have to? Maybe somebody aboard the Sierra is smuggling something. Somebody needed to drop something off or pick something up without having the transporter logs give them away. Seems overly elaborate though. I think I’ll drop by my quarters and access the personnel record of the Sierra’s CO and see if any red flags come up.”

Jason Harn aCO, getting ready to end the CIC scene

“You might want to check with the away team, too. Find out who all left the ship for ANY reason while they were grounded, with or without permission to do so. Could be someone had a package to pick up or deliver on the surface. I’ll have the wings keep up constant surveillance and scan the surface as best they can for anything that isn’t natural to the planet.”

Ricochet (CAG)
