“Commander there is an energy signature coming from the infant and the satchel that she is carrying.” Toro said showing the scans to Harn

Ael headed for his fighter, disconcerted at everything that had so far transpired. He wasn’t sure even if the cockpit of his fighter was safe.

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex (Red Squad Leader)

As he got into the fighter, he saw Mrs. Pitch reaching into her satchel bag and moving closer to the CIO and Cmdr. Harn.

At that moment, the tricorder read a 25% increase in the energy levels.

GM

Jason took a step back away from the strange woman, even though in his mind it didn’t matter. Whatever she was or whatever was controlling her could affect anyone on the ship. Physical contact had so far not been necessary. Yet still there was that instinctive reaction of that primal fear that two versions of Starfleet training was trying to disguise as caution. “Mrs. Pitch, may we please see what is in your satchel?” he asked in an attempt at bravado.

=^=Commander we have an energy surge, undefined but I think its related to the…=^= He couldn’t figure out the proper designation for this issue. =^=Mind control?=^=

Kolar csO

=^=Mister Kolar, can you please place a force field around Mrs. Pitch down here in the shuttlebay?=^= Jason replied in an overly conservational tone. =^=Let’s see if she as anything to do with your energy surge.=^= Jason looked Mrs. Pitch straight in the eye, all pretense of innocence gone.

OOC: Time to find out if the shuttlebay has those portable forcefields that Captain Picard used to capture those aliens on the bridge in the 3rd season TNG episode “Allegiance”.

Jason Harn, aCO letting her know the jig is up

=^=By your command.=^= Kolar responded and pressed the relevant buttons.

Kolar

Toro looked around for anything that might be of use, she reiterated Harn’s request “Open the bag and let us see what’s in it.” She said calmly, keeping her eyes on Pitch, the infant and the bag. She was running through her mind what was in the shuttle bay that might be of use to contain the duo. She focused her scans on the energy signature and had an idea “Commander what about transporting the energy signature out of the bag into the brig?” She asked quietly.

CIO

“Do you think that…?” Jason began.

Suddenly the EMH appeared.

“Commander I have been ordered by Dr. Doolittle to assist you with Mrs Pitch. I am of course impervious to mind control.” The EMH stated.

EMH

“Thank you,” Jason replied blankly. He acted as if he had never seen a man or a hologram appear out of nowhere. Perhaps he simply had a lot on his mind.

The baby started to cry. Then Mrs. Pitch let out a scream. “Why do you all always interfere? We just want to leave and live our lives without interference!” In her frustration, she did not secure the satchel properly. A long rod dropped out of the satchel. The rod was the source of the energy.

GM

OOC: Sorry. Forgot to add that force field was erected. Let’s then assume so. I’ll let Sidney play the EMH. :)

Kenson

Somewhat belatedly, Jason came to a decision. It was as if the sound of the rod hitting the deck broke the spell that facing the unknown caused in primitive men from past centuries. “Yes!” he snapped his fingers. “Transport the energy signature to the brig! Get it secured and as far away from her as possible!”

Jason Harn, aCO

=^=We will have to lower the force field to activate the transporter beam.=^=

Kolar

=^=Do it,=^= Jason replied without hesitation as he lunged forward in case Mrs. Pitch dropped her baby in an attempt to recover the rod. This was a risk since the acting commanding officer’s huge frame could easily block Toro from getting a clear shot.

=^=Roger=^= There was a tone, that sounded a lot like… ‘if you say so.’ without actually saying more than a single word.

Jason Harn, aCO foolishly placing himself in jeopardy

“Mrs Pitch I am a Dr. I am here to help. Remain calm and tell me what is the matter.” The EMH said. It was not clear to the EMH if the woman knew he was a holographic doctor and in fact unless she saw him appear out of air she would probably not know.

EMH

About this time Doolittle made his way into the shuttle bay looking a bit winded and he did not immediately approach anyone.

Doolittle

OOC: My bad! Clicked the submit button before posting !!!

IC: Mrs. Pitch turned to look at the EMH still clutching to her baby. Then she heard the rod fall on the ground. As she looked down, she caught a glimpse of Harn lunging towards her. She took a step back and her head hit the bulkhead of the runabout she just emerged from. She hit her head hard but not enough to render her unconscious. She just saw a flash of white and numbing pain at the back of her head. She still held on to her child. The child seemed to sense his mother’s pain and cried even more earnestly.

GM

“Oh, I’m sorry!” Jason stammered as he rocked on his heels. He was perfectly aware of how intimidating his size could be and had worked as hard as he could to make himself seem as friendly and reassuring as he could. “I didn’t know if you were still you,” he added lamely as he kicked the rod away before backing away from Mrs. Pitch. Doctor Doolittle or the EMH could make physical contact, not him.

He frowned. He had been so sure that Mrs. Pitch wasn’t what she appeared to be but she had opted to keep the baby and not the magic rod that probably the source of all their problems. Either the baby was the entity that was taking control of so many aboard the Olinski or it was…

He glanced down at the rod on the deck.

…that rod that nobody had seen before.

“Toro, do we have a safe way to transport that thing?” he asked while pointing at rod. “I’m not wild about the idea of anybody’s skin making contact with it.”

Jason Harn, aCO who is apparently not Hercule Poirot

Toro was at the transporter console “Trying to get a lock on it now to get it to the Brig.” She said =^=Toro to Brig. Transporting a rod to cell one. No one is to touch it.=^= She said as she manipulated the controls and tried to beam it away from Mrs. Pitch.

Mrs. Pitch looked desperate. “No … No … Give that back to me!” She moved towards the rod and it was clear that she wanted to pick it up.

GM

Jason took a step so that his large imposing body was between the distraught woman and the rod she was seeking. “I’m sorry ma’am, but that thing is dangerous. I cannot permit you to touch that at this time. In the meantime, if it’s not too much trouble I was wondering if you could answer some questions…”

Jason Harn, aCO, sounding very much like a police procedural holonovel

Kolar
(OOC: Is she able to get a lock and transport it to the Brig)
CIO

“You know I handle and lift materials?” The EMH said. “It’s part of my system using small forcefield emitters located, as you all know, throughout the ship for all types of things. I just manipulate them to my use. Were not solely “holographic”” Th EMH said as he reached down and picked up the rod.

Jason didn’t care for the EMH’s tone. “What do you think you are, an emergency medical hologram or…” he blinked as he recalled that the man he was speaking to WAS an emergency medical hologram. Aside of the documentary of the Voyager’s trip to the Delta Quadrant, Jason’s experience with them was almost nil. “Um carry on,” he mumbled in gentler tone.

“Where to?” the hologram asked.

Doolittle just stood back and let the EMH take the lead.

EMH and Doolittle

The bridge finally was able to get a lock on the rod and it disappeared from the EMH’s hand.

GM

“The brig,” Jason finished. “At least until we can figure out whether or not that thing’s a life form or not.” He had a feeling the EMH was going to be handling it for Kolar and his team. He turned back to distraught woman in front of the runabout. “Mrs. Pitch, exactly what is that thing?”

Jason Harn, aCO who probably should have posted earlier

=^=Transport completed Commander.=^= Kolar reported despite the fact they probably saw that happen.

Kolar CSO

=^=Acknowledged Mister Balfor,=^= Jason replied without taking his eyes off of Mrs. Pitch. If she had been under some form of mind control all of this time, would she be rational enough to answer questions? Was Jason being too hard on her?

Jason Harn, aCO who seems to be going from not posting enough to posting too much

Mrs. Pitch’s face was purple with fury. She did not speak. She held on to her baby and said, “You are going to pay!” The baby’s cried became muffled as she held the baby tight.

GM

“Yes?” Jason retorted as he took a step closer. “Please, Mrs. Pitch, continue. Exactly what grievance do you have against us? Just what have we done wrong?”

Jason Harn, aCO adopting a Kirk style mode of questioning

Meanwhile Doolittle had prepared a hypo to knock out Pitch as he now feared the baby might be in danger.

Doolittle

“All we wanted was a passage out of here. Was that too much to ask? Everyone just keeps getting in our way!” she screamed. The baby moved about and the hood it had on fell away. The head of the baby showed that it was not a human baby …

GM

Doolittle was confused. He had examined a human baby before and now this was not a human. With his free hand he pulled out his small tricorder and moved a bit closer to get a reading. He concealed the hypo in his pants waist.

“Not going to hurt you. I just want to check your well being.” He said.

Doolittle
