OOC: I’m assuming that this scene takes place after the time skip Koh posted here: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/olinski/posts/96284/, but before Sidney returns to the Olinski.

Jason Harn used the solitude to contact Meridian Station and talk to Sidney. After some pleasantries, Jason gave him a summary of the day’s adventure so far, relaying the rescue of the Sierra, the paralysis and bodily override suffered by several members of the crew, and the duplicity of Mrs. Pitch and the probable danger the rod presented.

=^=What really gets to me is the plight of that baby, Boss,=^= Jason finished after his verbal report. =^=That woman was able to fool our sensors as well as the naked eye. At this rate, I don’t even think that baby is hers, but how do I know if I’m homing in on a kidnapper or I’m bullying a distraught mother who’s gone too far? I’d really appreciate your input, Skipper. I let myself get too close to this.”

“From the sounds of it you did very well. As good as any Captain could of and that includes me. Listen in every investigation we never get all the answers. Also there is a point where our job ends and someone’s else begins. Keep them in custody, separated is probably a good idea and sedated if necessary. Your responsibility it to the ship and crew. Period. SF Investigations, child services and research division can do the rest.” The Captain offered.

Sidney CO

“Copy that, Boss,” Jason nodded. “So how is your case with JAG going? Did you get that friend of yours off?” Jason had, should we say, flexible interpretations of the Prime Directive, so he was interested in knowing Sidney’s skill at legal defense.

“Indeed I did. It was touch and go. The man put himself in a bad spot and then someone took advantage of it and nearly had him incarcerated for life. I won’t say all my courtroom tactics were standard but the end result was justice done.” Sidney answered.

However a woman died and that was not a just thing. He had learned that all you could do is your part. You could not fix everything and sure as heck not undo the done.

“Tell me Harn. Are you putting in for a command now?” He asked. Obviously he had done well as the CO.

Parker CO

Jason laughed sheepishly. He had made no secret his ambition to become a starship captain again after a hiatus of almost two hundred and forty years. But as he had gotten closer to his goal, he realized that the brash confidence of his youth seemed to diluted. “I wont say no to my own command, but let’s just say that there’s nothing like being in the driver’s seat to let me know just how long its been since I was the one calling the shots. If they do give me my own command don’t be surprised if you get a lot of annoying calls for the first few months.” Jason’s penchant for self deprecating humor was well known by this point and there was nothing like using fake trepidation to hide the real trepidation.

Jason Harn, hesitating now that he is so close to his goal

“Well you have my recommendation. This looked like a tricky mission and you completed it well.” Sid said. “Thank you Number One for doing a damn fine job.”

Parker CO

Jason had the stupid smile of an officer half his age. “Thanks Boss. We look forward to having you back. When can we expect you?”
