Doolittle walked into Sickbay. Many of the doctors and nurses stopped what they were doing and began to clap. Doolittle smiled. He appreciated the sentiment. He waved his hand as if to say thank you and carry on. He then sent a message to Lt Schweitzer to come to the CMO office. He still officially had some time on the clock as they liked to say but he needed to do something now and that required the incoming CMO to meet with him.

Doolittle

Schweitzer strode into the Sickbay and stated evenly,

“Reporting as requested. How may I be of help?”

Lt. (j.g.) Albert Schweitzer (Medical)

“By taking this job a few weeks early Lt. I resign!” Doolittle blurted out.

He had finally come to the rationalization that he was a medical Dr, not this kind anyway, and damn sure not a CMO. Heck he was not even SF material.

Doolittle

Schweitzer was struck by the words but tried to keep his composure. “Of course, Sir. I am happy to serve.”

Lt. (j.g.) Albert Schweitzer (Medical)

“Listen Schweitzer. I am a psychiatrist. I am not a SF material person. I am accustomed to a certain amount of control with the variables but this is something altogether different. I joined SF to get some experiences I could not get elsewhere. Makes for a good CV stuffer so to speak for a lucrative private practice down the road. I tool CMO to fill out that CV even more. Honestly I thought it was not that hard. However my young Lt I think your enthusiasm will be tempered quick enough. I know mine was. No I think I have enough experience now and maybe some PTSD to go with it. I will be drafting my resignation from SF to the Captain immediately and as soon as we reach SB I am disembarking for the life of a private sector psychiatrist. Good day young man.” Doolittle said but then turned. “I already transferred command of the Medical Section to you. Have fun.”

He then picked up a container with some personal items and walked out.

Doolittle

Schweitzer called out to Doolittle with a polite “Thank you, Sir” but he wasn’t sure if Doolittle heard him.
