Ensign Flynn stared stiffly out the window, his arms tucked behind his back formally as he watched the U.S.S Trident slowly shrink as the shuttle pod pulled away from the ship. Although his face remained perfectly neutral as his home for the past 3 years since he graduated the Academy fade in the distance, he wasn’t sad. It had been about time he got away from the stifling atmosphere of the ship full of goody-two-shoes and boot-lickers. It was a relief to just breath for a change without having to keep face. Especially in front of that pesky Counsellor Hicks. Right from the minute Flynn had boarded the Trident, Lt. Hicks had regarded him with suspicion, it was almost as if Hicks wanted Flynn to be guilty. Flynn snorted, with a ship full of stuck ups it wasn’t much of a surprise that Hicks was so desperate to find someone a little more… colourful than the rest of the crew-
“Something wrong sir?”
Flynn’s train of thought paused as he realised his snort had disturbed his cabin mate and pilot. He turned, and flashed the Lieutenant a meloncholy smile. Appreciating that the man had called him sir despite Flynn being younger and a lower rank, “Nothing really, just reminising. The Trident was my first ship.” The Lieutenant nodded and swung back round to his consol.

Once the Lieutenants back was turned, Fraiser smiled, relieved he hadn’t tried to spark further conversation. He went and sat down on the spare seat, kicked his feet up and closed his eyes. In under an hour his shuttle would land at Starbase 257 and he would have completed his first step towards his new posting. So no nothing was wrong. Nothing at all.

********* 6 days 18 hours and 12 minutes later

Just nearly a week later and Flynn stepped onto another shuttlecraft that would shuttle him from the station out to where the U.S.S Saracen was docked. His week of recreation was over, and it was time to maintain his role again. Fraiser the charming, Fraiser the friend. It was exhausting and not for the first time he wondered how Elaine could possibly pull it off. How she could convince patients that she really cared about their latest stubbed toe or sliced finger, he didn’t know. But the minx was a born deceiver, deceiving even him so could he really be surprised?

In the background his pilot - a young Bajoran female - ran through the usual docking proccedures, in a couple of minutes the shuttle shook as it geared up and prepared for depature. Fraiser settled down in his chair and opened up his PADD his hand and began going through the personal files he had access to from the Saracen. It ought to give him a good idea of what sort of people he would be dealing with, and gain a general feel of the ship. It was always good to know what sort of territory that he might be going into.

In the back of the shuttle, near a seat in the corner, sat a big man. He seemed to keep himself small though in his seat, as he leaned against the back wall. The Shadows of the shuttle lighting gave him a little bit of cover. He was wearing civilian clothing, and in his hand, he had a book; ‘Tactics of the Dominion: A history of the Dominion war By Admiral Washburn.’ He sat there quietly, not looking up at all while the shuttle moved, nor did he make any sound. It was easy to miss him if no one was looking.

The short flight passed quickly and soon enough the shuttle was docking inside the U.S.S Saracen. As the shuttlecraft came to a stop, Flynn shut off his PADD and leaned forward with eager anticipation that he didn’t bother to conceal. He couldn’t deny that it was exciting to see his future streached out in front of him, moulded in the shape of the ship.

“Beautiful isn’t she?” The Bajoran commented.
Flynn nodded, “She sure is,” he glanced over at the NE and sensing an oppertunity he asked, “Do you work on her?”
The Bajoran shook her head, “I’m afraid I just work on the Starbase,”
Flynn shook his head in a sad kind of a way, “Shame, you would have made a beautiful tour guide,” the Bajoran blushed and Flynn leaned casually back in his seat, satisfied with her response. The Bajoran turned back to her piloting, but Flynn didn’t miss the red that remained on her cheeks. He was distracted from saying anything more by the Shuttlecraft powering down and the doors opening up.

The man glanced up towards the pilot and the other passenger. He watched for a moment as the young man flirted with the pilot. He sat there quietly, watching the young ensign as he left the shuttle.

Flynn stood up leaving his PADD discreetly on his seat and made his way down the ramp to take his first step aboard the Saracen. Here was his future laid out around him and at his feet. The corners of his mouth twitched, though the rest of his face remained impassive, as he gazed around the docking bay. Let the fun begin.

OCC: Awesome post, keep it up!

IC: After the young ensign walked out of the shuttle, he stood up, ducking to stop his head from hitting the bulkhead. He grabbed his bag from the next seat and walked calmly down the stairs and walked up quietly next to the young ensign. Standing next to each other, he made the young Ensign look comically small. While he only stood about 4 inches taller then the young Ensign, he had about 100 pounds of muscle on him.

Flynn felt a presense next to him but given the heavy, though surprisingly quiet footsteps behind him, he guessed it wasn’t the other Ensign and rather the other passager, who Flynn had pretty much ignored, and had ignored Flynn in return which suited Flynn just fine.

“So tell me Ensign, How did the women take to your flirtation?” He ask, his voice was calm and deeply soothing, large contrast to his size and almost angry looking demeanor.

OOC: Thank you!

IC: Flynn turned, mildly annoyed that the man had spoken to him, forcing him to acknowledge his presence for the first time. His face remained neutral, betraying nothing of which Flynn thought or felt as he took in the size of his companion. The man was both taller and had more muscles than Fraiser, a dangerous mix, it made him feel small and Fraiser didn’t like it. He made a mental note to avoid standing next to the man whenever he could. So long as Fraiser wasn’t standing next to him, as the less intimidating male, people would be more inclined to seek him out. Having decided that in his head, Flynn quickly ran through how best to respond to the man. To his disappointment the man was in civilian clothing, which could mean anything. This man could just be a simple visitor coming to see his girlfriend, or could be an officer anywhere between an Ensign to the new XO and if that was the case, and the man was an officer, Flynn couldn’t afford to say the wrong thing. If he made a bad impression and it turned out the man was his superior - which given the age Flynn estimated the man was, meant it was very likely - it would make getting his promotion all the more harder.

Flynn flashed a charming smile covering his ill ease at being made to feel small, “She was -” he paused as movement in his peripheral caught his attention, and his smile widened and looked more triumphant. “I think we’re about to find out,”

Appearing on the ramp the two males had just disembarked from, was the young Bajoran and in her hand was clutched a PADD, or more specifically Fraiser’s PADD “Sir! Uhhh… Ensign you forgot your PADD!” she called out walking down the ramp towards them.

Flynn spun around, and immediately searched himself, as if realising for the first time that he’d lost his PADD. As she approached he flashed her a relieved smile, “Thank you so much,” he gushed, reaching to take the PADD from her making sure his hand accidently touched hers as he grabbed it, “It has my boarding orders on it. I would have been screwed without it,” Not quite true, he had another copy of his boarding orders in the pocket of his uniform, but a little white lie wasn’t going to hurt him.

She blushed again, “You’re welcome umm Ensign....”
“Ensign Flynn,” he held his hand out for her to shake, “And I think I owe you a drink for saving my hide,”

The Ensign hesistated, biting her lip, it wasn’t hard to see the internal war she had going on in her head between duty and a drink with the handsome Ensign.
“Just a quick one,” Flynn winked, “Our friend here can chaporone if you’d like, but I can promise you my intentions are entirely honourable. So what do you say?” his attention was now focused on the taller male, “How about we share a toast to the young lady who expertly saw us safely to the ship,”

OOC: just a minor edit :)

Adam didn’t smile, but looked at Flynn then the young women then back at Flynn. “I’ll leave you two to it. Something to keep in mind though,” He said, looking down at Flynn. “I can’t speak on Lieutenant Rah-Triton, but I do know that Master Chief Gordon doesn’t appreciate it when new Ensigns are late for their check in’s. While you do technically out rank him, just remember that he has been in Star fleet longer then either of us have been alive.” He turned his attention to both of them.

“I understand that the 10-forward bar and lounge is a great place for a first date.” He nodded at Flynn and the young women. “Ensigns.” He slung his pack over his shoulder and walked out of the shuttle bay.
