Taking a seat beside Boja and the other Officers from his ship in attendance, Dante looked over the assorted foods and could appreciate a number of them. “Well” he said to his CMO, “it looks more appetizing than Klingon food, nothing is wriggling at least.” He had to grin and looked over at the other tables, nodding to an Officer here and there that he recognized. Taking note of his placing, he looked to see what kind of cutlery was provided and looked up at Boja. “Something tells me these foods are not replicated Doctor, I wonder of they are going to hold speeches before we dine.”

Satreya spoke softly, just above a whisper so her voice was more background to others that might be listening. “It does look promising for me on the food front, but no idea about the speeches. Gavain will know but I would try to follow the cues of our hosts. If they look expectantly at us while not eating, then it would probably be okay to start. Otherwise, wait until they do. They don’t seem to be the type to try to put you in a position where you would cause offence and I’m not picking up any deception. They seem generally happy to have us here.”

Lt. Boja, CMO

Once the whole gathering had sat down, including a late arrival, Controller Gu spoke up. He was a tall and lanky Laleri, with dark black fur and bright green eyes. He wore ornate tan coloured robes, with golden trim.

“Alright everyone. Thank you, thank you all for coming to this celebration. We’re all excited to have you all here. We’ve got a big meal set up for you, imported from the planet’s surface and made by some of our most renowned chefs. There are various forms of simple sustenance, as well as more complex dishes to follow. If you have dietary restrictions, someone will come around and give you a small form to fill so that we can find you food fitting for you,” he explained. He looked around. “I think that’s all, so we can get started eating in just a moment. We of Galdor are a deeply religious people, and we ask that you either join hands and lift them to the sky,” he gestured to a few Galdori demonstrating, “or bow your head. This tradition is a ceremonial prayer stance practiced first among the Arwan, but passed to the other races later in the ages.”

Satreya was on the more skeptical side of religious practices and in general avoided them. But she was open enough to be respectful of other people’s beliefs. She cast a slight look at Dante to see what he was opting for, but she chose to bow her head. It was not uncommon for both halves of her surface heritage to use a head bow as a greeting, so it worked for her just fine.

Lt. Boja, CMO

Looking around, Dante wasn’t quite sure if the speaker had meant link hands with other people, or link your own hands but it took only a second to glance at the Galdori indicated to realize it was his own hands he was supposed to join and raise. With a side glance of his own at Boja, he decided to join in the more obvious style and copied the Galdori raising their hands. He himself wasn’t particularly religious, in fact he wasn’t at all, but he was very aware that many cultures in the Federation and those they met were highly religious, and some of the practices could be fun.

Gu smiled slightly, then closed his own eyes. He began to speak. “En’ris, the sun above our heads, bringer of life.”

The rest of the Galdori around the table echoed quietly. “Bringer of life.”

“Lu’ne, brightest presence in the night sky, mother of wisdom. Va’al, shadow in the sky, he cares for our dead. We thank thee for the blessings of our membership within the Federation. We thank thee for the friends and allies that surround us today.”

There was a bright light from the center of the room, causing many of the people there to blink and glance away. A sourceless voice… Similar to how one would imagine Santa Claus to sound, spoke.

“We have merely guided your people to a position in which you are able to reach for the stars. It is your own ingenuity that has carried you the rest of the way. And to the rest of you, guests to this world… Thank you for welcoming our children to your… Family.”

The bright light was gone.

Gu blinked. “There are theories that our gods are beings similar to the prophets of Bajor or the Q continuum. Although not all agree that they are divine, it is certain to us that they exist.”
