The stars. It was hard to believe how easily one could come to miss them, when they were confined to the planet side for an extended period of time. Elmira had never been infatuated with the stars, she had never found the same adoration for them as many of the others in her line of work had. She did not dote, nor dream of one day discovering what was out there. If anything, she was eerily indifferent to the burning balls of gas, as they hovered about the universe, pulling weaker objects into their magnetic hug. Just as everything else in this galaxy; they were there to be acknolwedged, but not revered.

Although, there was something about waking up to the same view every morning, that left Elmira missing those stars. After all, she had never been much a fan of staring out into the Arizona desert, where everything was either dead or inanimate for as far as the eye could see. At least the starscape changed with each passing day, and there was something more to veiw than just a series of sunrises and sunsets over a land so deceased, a graveyard couldn’t compare. The thought, itself, amused her, rattling a soft chuckle as she leaned against the walls of the slim shuttlecraft she was transporting through.

The thought slowly faded into the dust of that lonesome desert, when the sight of the Saracen took over. There was nothing more gorgeous than a starship– unless it were food, and that was the only exception to that statement. With a faint smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth, she considered the fine vessel. Having previously served aboard the Dresden, this would be only a notable change in scenery. Although, Elmira couldn’t say she didn’t mind something a little different, this time around. Tearing her gaze from the ship, she glanced down at the bag which lay haphazardly at her feet. It carried the few belongings that actually mattered to the vagabond of a woman, giving her just enough of a connection to home to matter.

Time drew on and restless legs slowly regained their energy. Before she could truly comprehend how much time had passed, Elmira found herself in the shuttlebay of the Saracen. Large, obsidian eyes studied its interior, but her interested was as feigned as the dyed colour of her fiery hair. She wasn’t truly interested in the shuttlebay, but she did have preference in knowing every inch of her surroundings. It was, after all, a priority of hers. Running a hand through her hair, she pulled a tie from her wrist to make certain it was in an acceptable do. Regardless of her troublesome ways, she had no intentions of being called out on the first day.

OOC: Fantastic intro Trin :)
OOC: Thanks, Dave! :D

IC: Around the front of the shuttle, one of the current crew of the Saracen walked with a PaDD in hand as he ran through the after-docking inspection on the shuttle and marked off the various check boxes that comprised the sweep of the small Armadillo Class craft. Intent on the ship he had barely looked up until he came close to the new Officer and became aware of her presence, which caused him to then look up and pause in his work.

The woman who had disembarked was somewhat shorter than he was, but striking with flame tinted hair framing a face that held a petite but wicked curve to her jaw and drew his eyes to her lips, to which her galaxy black eyes served as a perfect focus. Almost something that Than thought he might be able to gaze at for hours if only the expression on her face had seemed a little friendlier. In fact to him her eyes and expression seemed decidedly icy which only served to spark a greater interest in the newcomer, seeing as it contrasted so much with the fiery look to her hair. He decided then that he wanted to see her smile.

Smiling a greeting which began at his lips and reached his blue eyes, and noting the pips on her collar and Command Red of her tunic, Than introduced himself. “Good Morning Lieutenant” he said quietly but with the confidence born of someone who knew what they were doing, “Can I help you at all, you’re new to the Saracen I take it? She’s a gorgeous ship and I’d be more than happy to show you around, or help you with your kit if you like. I’m Ensign Than Osedi, it’s great to meet you.”

“Good morning, Ensign.” Elmira hummed, shifting her attention to the Trill man. A yellow tunic told her all she needed to know about the man’s place on the ship, and judging by his place in the shuttlebay, that PADD resting between his fingers, she dared to assume he was an engineer. Unless Security had a newfound interest in the Saracen’s shuttles. “Perceptive,” Sarcasm, it laced her words as if woven into them by a needle and string, but it wasn’t rude, oddly enough. “She certainly catches the eye of any waygoing party; if you could show me around, that would be incredible, thank you.” She was working on her tact, but that was something ever growing– and ever depleting.

Tall and slender, the Trill Engineer ticked off the final boxes on the PaDD and slid it into the holder at his waist and then adjusted his sleeve cuffs slightly as he returned his eyes to hers. Noticeably, his spots we’re dark and distinctive and contrasted his blue eyes, and these spots reappeared on his forearms below his folded back sleeves and on the back of his hands. Wearing his black hair short like many Engineers, his blue eyes were topped by slightly bushy eyebrows. Overall he was a good looking man, but for all of that, unremarkable in appearance. What set him apart was his relaxed friendliness.

With his attention diverted to adjusting his sleeve, Elmira took a second to behold the man. Vibrant blue eyes reminded her of the oceans of the planet Earth, those tumultuous waters dangerous albeit equally as friendly, if one knew how to perceive them. With their striking antithesis to the spots painted across his skin, bearing a colour much darker than his eyes drew light from, she found him to be undeniably handsome. Friendly and handsome, what a rarity– oh! Stop staring, Elmira– before he notices! Briskly shifting her gaze to the ground, she held it there, as if discovering a newfound fascination with the structure of the ground.

“It would be my pleasure to show you the ship” Than said to the fire haired woman as his attention came back fully to her after making sure the PaDD was secure. That small moment meant he had missed her gaze and the reason she was now studying the floor, so Than tilted his head slightly with a small smile as his eyes took in the small woman, his own chance to look more closely at her now she had his full attention and let his gaze linger on her a little longer than would have been normal. He realized that his own first impressions of her had in fact been understated.

While her flame tinted hair and her stunning dark orbs drew his own eyes to the obvious contrast between her looks and her gaze, there was a sarcastic humor to her tone that made him want to keep talking to her. “I’m off the clock now as well, this was my last job before my break so, I’m all yours” he told her.

Raising her head, in hope she would find the man unaware of her brief infatuation with his appearance, she offered a crooked smile. “Well.. Where do you say we begin, Osedi?”

As the Lieutenant raised her head and smiled, Than’s own smile slowly widened in response as his head straightened again from its tilt. There was the smile he had wanted and there was something about the smile, it wasn’t quite the easy and earnest smile of someone welcoming a new friend, but it was a genuine smile that she gave him. A forced smile would have never been reflected in those eyes, eyes that as they lifted from the ground he found himself looking into, being drawn into. He made no effort to look away as he spoke to her, he just let his own smile grow wider. Until of course he remembered he was an Ensign talking to a new Bridge Officer, then he leaned down and picked up her Kit, placed down as she had tied back her hair.

“First, we need to drop these off at your quarters” he said as he held up her Kit in a clear statement he would carry it, “second, as neither of us are on duty, call me Than.” He turned and nodded to the docking bay doors and began to head in that direction, moving to walk beside her. “After that, I’m guessing you have a little time before your check-ins are due, so if you like we could look into the rebuilt Ten Forward after your long flight, or walk the decks and check out the main area’s you’ll need to know first. I recommend Ten Forward, personally.” He glanced at her as he spoke, and adjusted the kit, “Is this all you brought?”
