With his attention diverted to adjusting his sleeve, Elmira took a second to behold the man. Vibrant blue eyes reminded her of the oceans of the planet Earth, those tumultuous waters dangerous albeit equally as friendly, if one knew how to perceive them. With their striking antithesis to the spots painted across his skin, bearing a colour much darker than his eyes drew light from, she found him to be undeniably handsome. Friendly and handsome, what a rarity– oh! Stop staring, Elmira– before he notices! Briskly shifting her gaze to the ground, she held it there, as if discovering a newfound fascination with the structure of the ground.

“It would be my pleasure to show you the ship” Than said to the fire haired woman as his attention came back fully to her after making sure the PaDD was secure. That small moment meant he had missed her gaze and the reason she was now studying the floor, so Than tilted his head slightly with a small smile as his eyes took in the small woman, his own chance to look more closely at her now she had his full attention and let his gaze linger on her a little longer than would have been normal. He realized that his own first impressions of her had in fact been understated.

Elmira could feel his eyes gracing her, while her own remained glued to the ground beneath their feet. Less than three minutes into her arrival to the Saracen, she had already become infatuated with the young Engineer; who, out of sheer luck, happened to be coming off shift the moment her shuttle had arrived. This infatuation briefly plagued her mind, tempting her to know more about this Than Osedi, his outwardly friendliness compelling. It was something different than she was used to, and perhaps he would be a breath of fresh air to spend time with, before they both had to find their seperate paths to different areas of the ship, come their next shifts.

While her flame tinted hair and her stunning dark orbs drew his own eyes to the obvious contrast between her looks and her gaze, there was a sarcastic humor to her tone that made him want to keep talking to her. “I’m off the clock now as well, this was my last job before my break so, I’m all yours” he told her.

Raising her head, in hope she would find the man unaware of her brief infatuation with his appearance, she offered a crooked smile. “Well.. Where do you say we begin, Osedi?”

As the Lieutenant raised her head and smiled, Than’s own smile slowly widened in response as his head straightened again from its tilt. There was the smile he had wanted and there was something about the smile, it wasn’t quite the easy and earnest smile of someone welcoming a new friend, but it was a genuine smile that she gave him. A forced smile would have never been reflected in those eyes, eyes that as they lifted from the ground he found himself looking into, being drawn into. He made no effort to look away as he spoke to her, he just let his own smile grow wider. Until of course he remembered he was an Ensign talking to a new Bridge Officer, then he leaned down and picked up her Kit, placed down as she had tied back her hair.

“First, we need to drop these off at your quarters” he said as he held up her Kit in a clear statement he would carry it, “second, as neither of us are on duty, call me Than.” He turned and nodded to the docking bay doors and began to head in that direction, moving to walk beside her. “After that, I’m guessing you have a little time before your check-ins are due, so if you like we could look into the rebuilt Ten Forward after your long flight, or walk the decks and check out the main area’s you’ll need to know first. I recommend Ten Forward, personally.” He glanced at her as he spoke, and adjusted the kit, “Is this all you brought?”

“Alright, Than. Thanks for carrying that,” She mused, her voice carrying in the air, through mometary contemplation of the man she had just met. “If we’re going off a basis of informality, call me Elmira.” It was in that moment she realized, she had never given any introduction to him. “Oh! Apparently I’ve lost my manners, the name’s Elmira O’Shea,” She grinned over at him, as he fell into step beside her. Crossing the immense bay, directly for those departing doors, she took a few moments to clear her mind of the previous stressors that had plagued it, moments before her arrival to the Saracen.

He looked back at her and returned the grin, he even raised an eyebrow at her admission of her name. “And here I thought you were going to be all mysterious and make me guess” he said, feigning a regretful tone that didn’t match his grin. “Just for the record Elmira, I would never have guessed your name but my guesses wouldn’t have come close to how wonderful that name rolls off the tongue. I would have spent a lot of time in Ten Forward just trying to guess it.” He looked away from her and nodded at other crew as they passed, more than one turning their heads to watch the pair as they exited the bay. Most likely it wasn’t him they were watching he knew, but the fiery haired woman who seemed to serious yet so full of attitude that he was intrigued by her personality.

“Rebuilt? I heard the ship was going under revision, but I would have never assumed they’d remodel a Ten Forward,” She hummed in appreciation, an underlying sass about her words. The systems of the starship were of utmost importance to any revision, although, it was always pleasant to find engineers taking into consideration the small additions to the ship, which tended to bring the most joy to the officers inhabiting it. “I’ll take your suggestion: Ten Forward, it is.” Her demeanor seemed relatively amicable, despite the underlying fire which endlessly brewed. “Affirmative.”

“Yes, they did some revisions to it almost as soon as we docked, a short notice upgrade but one that was quite extensive. It’s actually amazing and I’m sure you’ll love it.” He told her, finding that the sass in her words seemed to him to give an edge to her tone that didn’t reflect in the sometimes level expression she had when not actively smiling. It wasn’t at all off putting to him, and wondered why a woman with a smile and eyes that could light up a room chose to be so serious of expression most of the time.

As they passed through the shuttlebay doors, the distinctive hiss of their movement filling her ears, Elmira considered the ship before them. “How long have you been assigned to the Saracen?” She inquired.

More crew passed them as they walked down the corridor to the nearby turbolift, giving a moment of quiet before Than could answer. “A few months” he told her, “I came on board with the Captain when we were diverted from returning to the Broadsword, his old Command to search for the Saracen. She was trapped in a Temporal Anomaly over Earth right before world war three was to begin. After the Away Team prevented an assassination somehow we returned to our own time, but a Temporal effect meant the engines seemed to have run for 40,000 hours non stop, meaning total replacement and a 10 year service was due for her. Captain Knight was assigned permanently to this ship, and I received orders to the same.”

They stopped outside a turbo lift and in seconds, were inside with the doors closing. Than turned to Elmira “So what do you do? I mean your Command Division obviously and Bridge Crew, but what makes you get out of bed in the morning?
