Jarred paced as he got to Cori’s. Elizabeth only arrived an day ago and he knew word would spread. Cori was still a friend to him, yet he knew the past six months he hadn’t done all the right moves. It had been a year ago since they had broken up, yet it was never due to lack of respect or care for her. In many ways Jarred worried dearly on her reaction. Despite all his talking of wanting to stay friends he had been a poor one at that.

Paging the door he hoped she would be free, he figured she might have known he was there by checking the computer to find who’s combadge was at her door.

It was a bit weird, she’d grant anyone that. Looking around the small meeting room, it was hard to say what she was doing exactly or or what purpose. There were small crates around the room with one on the table. At least he had enough sense not to just barge in, but Cori had to admit there was something very meta about him having to query the computer to see if she was out and about with her emitter. She allowed it to be tracked as if it were her version of a communicator, though she did wear one of those too when in solid form outside of the holodeck. Most of the time, anyway.

Stepping back, she tapped the control to unlock the door so he could enter. With her back to him, Cori picked up a box from a chair and set it on the table. “Something I can help you with?” she said, her tone rather formal, though she though saying his rank would have been needlessly cold.

“Is this a bad time?” Jarred asked, looking at her cautiously as he took her in. She had every right to feel angry he knew. Despite his wish to be friends even after the break up he certainly didn’t hold up to his end of the bargain. On top of that he never once talked about Kalani or how that began.

Now he stood there thinking of telling her of his daughter and knew that would perhaps be the hardest to swallow. Elizabeth turned five near the end of the month, five years he could have told anyone yet he didn’t.

“Look I know I maybe the last person you wish to talk right now too; but I could really use a friend to talk to and I felt I owed a lot to you. More than you may know. So I wanted to come by, make things right and see how you have been.”
