Sinclair watched him closely, saw the flashes of anger and the fight for control. Saw the deflection away from what was at the core of him. “Dark soul, eh? How’d that make you feel, Ensign? Knowing that the person you cared for most… that part of them feared you? Or is it ‘fears’ you? I mean, she left you at the Academy, went off on her own. Can’t get much further away from someone than separate star ships in separate sectors, can you? You must really have scared her for her to flee from you like that.”

Sinclair, CNS

“I was her salvation!” Flynn stood up so fast his chair fell backwards, his hands were clenched into fists by his side, so tight his knuckles were white. He stood breathing heavily, trembling. For a few moments he stayed like that, head bowed.

When the moment was over, he slowly turned around and picked up the chair and sat back down. “My apologies,” he bowed his head, tucking his fists by his side, “She’s still a sore subject.” He looked back up at the Counselor, “I don’t think you fully understand how our relationship was. When I found Elaine she was nothing but a budding alcoholic. She had no future, no desires for a future. She just went from party to party getting wasted trying to forget how pathetic her life was. I changed that. I showed her there was more to the world than the bottom of a bottle. I love her - loved her. I put my future on hold to wait for her so we could join the Academy together.” Fraiser fixed the Counselor with a cold hard look, “I pulled her away from that cliff she was walking off of. That crap about my having a ‘dark soul’ that was her being petty because she was angry with me. Nothing more.” He shuffled about until his own stance mimicked that of Sinclairs, “She has more to fear from herself than from me.”

Sinclair didn’t even twitch when Flynn erupted. He knew it was coming and was ready should things become… complicated. As Flynn regained his composure and sat back down, Sinclair noted the way he described the woman. “So why did you attack her in her dorm room?” he asked flatly.

Sinclair, CNS

OOC: I know there is no evidence of this actually happening. Sinclair is seeing how Flynn reacts.

James

IC: Every muscle in Fraisers body froze. Then he gave one of his charming smiles, he’d been expecting the question for quite some time, dispite his best efforts to avoid it, “That’s a very serious accusation to make Counselor. Do you seriously believe I’m capable? That’s a little hurtful don’t you think?”

“If you want to know who did it, why don’t you ask Elaine ? She was there. She’ll tell you herself it wasn’t me.”

Sinclair didn’t blink, just watched. “Convenient, as she is in another sector. Can’t really verify that. But then again, that’s not my job. I’ll leave that up to the Academy authorities and FedSec. I just wanted to see your reaction. So I have an idea about it’s veracity.” and he finally shook his head and moved his hands from his lap and began tapping into the console before him. For several moments, he didn’t acknowledge Flynn at all, just tapped away. Finally, jabbed a finger at the desk and a PaDD chirped in response. Picking up the PaDD, Sinclair hefted it in his hand while he stared at Flynn, as if weighing the worth of the PaDD’s contents against the young man seated before him. Finally reaching a verdict in his mind, he tossed the PaDD on the desk.

“Now, this isn’t quite protocol, mind you. But I thought I’d give you one final shot. That’s my report. My report on you. Now then, Mr. Flynn. I am going to give you one last shot. Tell me everything. Leave nothing out. If you tell me everything, what you say stays here. If you don’t, well… that means we can discuss my assessment in front of the Skipper. But know this about that report. It’s honest. It’s factual. And it will end your tenure on this ship before you change your uniform. And all I have to do is hit ‘submit’ for everything you have worked for to go right out the airlock.” and he leaned forward a bit, dropping his hands back down to his lap. “And no, this is not what a Counselor would typically do. But I’m not your typical Counselor… ” and he pointed directly at Flynn, “… and you aren’t the typical Ensign. Right?”

Sinclair, CNS

Fraiser didn’t respond, slowly with great reluctance he picked up the PADD. His face paled as he quietly read through the report as if sensing for the first time that he was in trouble. His hands clenched around the frame of the PADD until his fingers were as white as his face. When he was done, he wordlessly stood up and threw the PADD back on the desk right in front of Sinclair.

“You- you can’t do that,” he snarled, “You come at me with wild accusations and I’m the bad guy? You don’t think for one second that I wasn’t the first person that Academy security investigated? You don’t think they tried their hardest to prove it was me? Because they tried but I’m still here. Because they. Couldn’t. Prove. I. Did. It.” Each word punctuated by a smack on the Counselors desk.Turning around, he ran a hand through his hair, not caring he messed his hair up or not. “This is insane!”

He paced back and forth for a couple of minutes before he whirled around all of a sudden, punching the wall behind him ignoring the sharp pain that shot through his hand. “This is rediculous! She said it wasn’t me. It’s been three years and people still can’t accept that. They dropped the case, she doesn’t want to press charges. She’s across the galexy flourishing probably with her new boyfriend and that dog he got her while I’m still here dealing with this crap!” He stopped and glared at the Counselor, “You know the worst part about it is, that despite all this crap she’s caused me. I still - I still love her. And if I love her than why would I have ever hit her?”

OOC: I don’t know about you but I’m having fun with these posts. Sinclair is seeing through Flynn perfectly.

Cass

OOC: This is the best psych eval EVER. SO MUCH FUN!

IC:

Sinclair remained calm and didn’t react at the throwing of the PaDD. He didn’t respond to the smacking of his desk. But when Flynn finally… finally… reached his breaking point and punched the wall, Sinclair did react. Not as a Counselor. Not even as a former Security Chief. But as a Lieutenant Commander in Star Fleet. Standing up with a speed wholly remarkable for a man his size, it was now apparent just how big Sinclair really was. Standing almost seven feet tall and weighing almost three hundred pounds, he managed to carry himself with both the self-assurance of a high ranking ship’s officer and the raw strength of his former professional rugby player life.

Ensign Flynn, SIT. DOWN. NOW.” his voice boomed across the room. In the back of his mind, Royal was relieved that the Counselor’s office was sound proofed. His face was no longer expressionless. It held the disapproving glare of one who wholly expected to be listened to… and whose orders would be followed. It was also very apparent that somewhere, Flynn had crossed a line. What that line was was obvious. Whether or not Flynn could make it back to the right side of that line remained locked in the stares between the two.

Sinclair, CNS

Ensign Flynn glared heavily at the Counselor as the Counselor made to stand up, Fraisers fists moved in front of his body and for a long moment he looked like he would hit Sinclair should he get too close. But as the seconds passed and Flynn and Sinclair stared at each other, the angry haze blinding Flynn faded, and it began to sink in that he had come close to attacking a superior officer.

Aghast he sat down as soon as the revelation hit him. “Sorry sir, that was out of line,” he said looking down at the hand he had punched the wall with. The front two knuckles were already beginning to swell and colour, but Flynn ignored that in favour of flexing his fingers back and forth, keeping the joint moving. It sent sharp pain through his hand as he did so Flynn kept doing it. Hoping that he could use the pain as an anchor to keep his temper from coming back up again. “I guess I just blew that last chance you gave me?” he asked somewhat sheepishly looking back up at the Counselor, although it was obvious that his anger was still simmering under the surface, barely contained.
