Jarred paced as he got to Cori’s. Elizabeth only arrived an day ago and he knew word would spread. Cori was still a friend to him, yet he knew the past six months he hadn’t done all the right moves. It had been a year ago since they had broken up, yet it was never due to lack of respect or care for her. In many ways Jarred worried dearly on her reaction. Despite all his talking of wanting to stay friends he had been a poor one at that.

Paging the door he hoped she would be free, he figured she might have known he was there by checking the computer to find who’s combadge was at her door.

It was a bit weird, she’d grant anyone that. Looking around the small meeting room, it was hard to say what she was doing exactly or or what purpose. There were small crates around the room with one on the table. At least he had enough sense not to just barge in, but Cori had to admit there was something very meta about him having to query the computer to see if she was out and about with her emitter. She allowed it to be tracked as if it were her version of a communicator, though she did wear one of those too when in solid form outside of the holodeck. Most of the time, anyway.

Stepping back, she tapped the control to unlock the door so he could enter. With her back to him, Cori picked up a box from a chair and set it on the table. “Something I can help you with?” she said, her tone rather formal, though she though saying his rank would have been needlessly cold.

“Is this a bad time?” Jarred asked, looking at her cautiously as he took her in. She had every right to feel angry he knew. Despite his wish to be friends even after the break up he certainly didn’t hold up to his end of the bargain. On top of that he never once talked about Kalani or how that began.

“No worse than any other time,” she said, opening he box and peeking inside. Cori frowned, closed the box and pushed it down the table. As much as she could she was treating him as just another member of the crew. It hurt less that way.

Now he stood there thinking of telling her of his daughter and knew that would perhaps be the hardest to swallow. Elizabeth turned five near the end of the month, five years he could have told anyone yet he didn’t.

“Look I know I maybe the last person you wish to talk right now too; but I could really use a friend to talk to and I felt I owed a lot to you. More than you may know. So I wanted to come by, make things right and see how you have been.”

Turning her head to look at him, her unnaturally vibrant eyes were skeptical. “Thirty million, seven hundred and fifty-eight thousand, four hundred seconds in a year. Terran of course. All of those I don’t need sleep for. Any one of those seconds could have been a moment like this where you said similar words. Why now?” she asked softly. A part of her wanted to be angry and cold towards him, but even him standing there made that at least partially impossible. After all, they hadn’t split because they didn’t love each other. It just wasn’t… enough.

“Would it have made things better? I guess that is to be determined now…” Jarred said as he shifted his stance as he looked at her. “Besides, you are someone I still care for… and our lives… have changed. I fear in my effort to find myself I left you to rot alone by yourself, which isn’t fair. On top of wanting to make sure you know I still care and still see you as a friend… a lot of things have changed… or nothing has I guess depending on your perspective.” Jarred said as he pondered on the best way to broach this to her.

“I guess I should just start with the obvious… rumors will spread if you hadn’t heard them even if she hasn’t been here long. My.... my daughter is moving in, she just arrived yesterday with my parents. I know that statment alone must come as a shock and I felt I shouldn’t be hiding her anymore to the people I care and love. So it’s time I man up, stop being scared and start being honest.”
