After spending the better part of the last few months traveling, Adam finally was able to setting into his quarters on deck 7, USS Saracen. It took him about 3 months to travel from the Intrepid to the Saracen. He didn’t know when he got his transfer orders where he was going at first. He was just told that he had orders to transfer off the Intrepid to Starbase 32. He spent a few weeks there on temporary assignment, as a guest lecturer for fresh academy graduates enroute to their own assignments. After that, he was transferred again to Starbase 257 for an assignment which required him to be in civilian clothing. Some diplomatic assignment, which his superiors noted would give him experience in diplomatic functions, something he sorely lacked. Several hours prior to the start of the assignment, he received orders to transfer to the USS Saracen to assume the duties of the Executive officer.

He was able to study the crew roster and past duties prior to his arrival, but, due to all the transfers, he wasn’t able to change into his uniform until he got here, as his uniforms were in a separate baggage which was being beamed directly to his quarters. It didn’t take him long to change into his uniform.

He checked his appearance in the mirror, making sure that he was good to go before he went to meet the Captain. Satisfied with his appearance, he checked the daily log to see where the Captain was. His ready room, good. Adam thought. He turned and set out, arriving on the bridge a few minutes later.

He took a good look at the bridge layout, nodding quietly to the officer on the bridge, who seemed to be staring at him as if he couldn’t believe what he saw, he walked over to the ready room and pressed the chime.

“Enter” came the voice from behind the door, which opened almost immediately to admit the chime ringer. Through that door, the Captains Ready Room would be viewed as a space designed for work.

A large desk with inbuilt console covered most of the back wall while a pair of chairs sat in front of it. To one side of the door a small couch sat with small end tables on each end, and near a floor to ceiling view panel that looked out into the stars, a two person dining table sat where the Captain could take an evening meal with a guest if he so wished. Beside that view panel was a large book case and cabinet with various drawers and shelves with an assortment of items from Dante’s travels and on the opposite wall to that a door to a washroom.

Adam took a look around the room, taking in how his new CO organized his office. How their office was organized told Adam a lot about the attitude and demeaner of the person behind the office. He took in everything quickly before turning his full attention to the Captain.

It was all very neat and tidy apart from the surface of the desk. That was covered in PaDD’s holding various updates on the work being done on the Saracen’s refit and repairs, crew assignments and duty rosters for the training that needed to be carried out on the new crew. There was also a rather large coffee mug on the desk, gripped in the hand of the Captain of the ship and looking to be half full of what appeared to be still hot coffee. That Captain looked up as the door had opened and waved his other hand, holding a PaDD, in a motion to enter the office. “Commander Threwn. Welcome to the Saracen” Dante said to the man, putting down the PaDD but not the coffee and coming to his feet to greet his First Officer.

Adam stepped forward and approached his new Skipper. “Greetings Captain.” he said, extending his hand. He had his own padd in his left hand which contained his transfer orders and other details.

“Thank you for the welcome.” His voice was calm and smooth. “How’s the coffee?”

“Black, hot and needed. Would you like a cup?” Dante asked his First Officer once he had shaken the mans hand, and motioned for the man to sit and place his PaDD on the table. “The shipyard has gone through a large amount of work in the time we have been docked here, thankfully we have been able to keep our main systems operational for the most part while the upgrades and repairs have been taking place.”

Captain Knight, CO

“Coffee would be good.” He replied to the offer, taking the seat indicated. “How are the repairs proceeding?” He asked curiously. He had read the reports of the ship, but he mainly focus on the personnel and less on the the status of the ship, considering it was in the shipyards under repair, any report he got would be out of date once he got here.
