Just before 0900 and Dante was already seated in the War Room, coffee number… something… before him and his PaDD with notes laid out ready. His officers were going to have to get the ship ready for departure today, in a few hours. His stomach growling reminded him he had taken no breakfast, and he thought he might take a break after the meeting to catch up with Natasha, eat and see how she was today before continuing with the tasks at hand.

Looking up, he glanced out the window to the view of the station that the Saracen was docked at. Her 10 year refit was complete. She had new engines, computer upgrades and sensor upgrades. She had also been painted, to reflect her 10 year anniversary status. The Pendragon Class Battle-cruiser now sported a new, darker grey paint scheme, with a red twin bar racing stripe on each side of the hull. That stripe contained the ships name and registry, and ended in a gold Starfleet insignia representing the arrow-head. It looked very sporty.

Taking a drink of his coffee, he waited for his staff to make an appearance.

Captain Knight, CO

The door opened and the bulk of the ship’s Counselor filled the doorway. Walking in with a large mug emblazoned with the crest of the USS Challenger and filled with something hot, he looked around the room briefly and then said “Good morning, Captain. How are you today?”, his thick Scottish brogue filling the room. He looked about again and took a seat on the far side of the table away from the door and one empty seat away from the Captain.

Sinclair, CNS

Satreya slipped in behind Sinclair with her own cup of coffee looking annoyingly awake. Teller would be right behind her, but the bonus of being a doctor was that you learned to be instantly awake at any hour of the day or night. “Morning.” She took up a seat opposite Royal, her dark eyes quickly assessing both men, but in particular the captain to get a sense of the tone of the meeting they were about to have.

Boja, CMO

“Good morning both of you,” Dante replied, not relinquishing hold of his own cup of coffee. He reflected briefly that if someone was to sabotage or steal the Saracens supply, she would likely be crippled and dead in the water.

His own thoughts about the upcoming mission were settled. It was a routine mission, although the unknown quantity of the nebula itself and its location slap bang between Klingon and Cardassian territory made it rather interesting. “I expect you are both eager to get out among the stars once again? I know I am.”

Captain Knight, CO

Adam walked in smartly, it was clear that he had been up for a while already. “Good Morning Captain, Counselor, Doctor.” He greeted brightly. He entered the room and headed straight to his chair, standing behind it. He had a steaming cup of hot coffee in one hand.

-XO

Elmira trailed in after the XO, nodding to the gathered officers. “G’day everyone,” She greeted, her voice lighter than usual. Taking up a seat beside the good doctor, she set her mug of sizzling coffee on the table. The mug itself was an eccentric piece, scribbled with indistinctive images obviously done by a child’s hand. Although, she didn’t seem to mind its messy design. In fact, she loved it. Quietly, she crossed her legs, curious to the contents of this meeting.

Lt. O’Shea
CTO

DaVinci walked in, empty-handed, and grinned at the sight of the numerous cups and mugs scattered about the table. He himself, was not a coffee drinker, finding the drink to easy to get addicted to the caffeine.

As the newly promoted second officer of the the Saracen, he took his seat opposite the one reserved for the ship’s new XO, a man he had yet to meet. He nodded in acknowledgement to the others already assembled, then nodded to Knight and said “Cap’n.”

Colter (CIO)

“Number One, Commander, Lieutenant.” Dante greeted each of them in turn, noting with approval the coffee in their custody. “We will begin in just a moment but tell me, are any of you familiar with the Betreka Nebula in this sector?”

Captain Knight, CO

Teller made an effort to seem awake and happy to be at this meeting. He was too young to be comfortable enough to show that he was tired and it was likely going to be a briefing about nothing that concerned science. In general he had learned that science was critical after the mission got started not before.

His ears perked up when he heard nebula. “Is that a trick question, Captain?” Nebulas in general were unremarkable although on occasion they hid something within.

Graham CSO

Sha came they the door and raised an eyebrow as Graham about trick questions. Keeping her comment to herself, she quietly settled into one of the chairs with padd in hand. She wasn’t about to smart off when she was already late.

Gavain slipped in quietly, not wanting to draw attention to himself as he was late. He sat sideways on a chair with no armrests, the tip of his tail flicking slightly.

Gavain, COO

OOC: We will move it along, remaining DH’s feel free to post joining the thread or simply already here as we go.

IC: Smiling at the question, Dante was about to answer when he realized that neither Colter nor Graham had coffee. The pause was slight, almost undetectable before he continued as if he hadn’t noticed.

“Not in the slightest, Lieutenant,” he said to his CSO, “because that is where our next mission is headed.” He pressed a button on the desk in front of him and behind him on the screen in the War Room, a map of the sector showing an enlarged series of grids around the Betreka Nebula lit up.

“We have been tasked with investigating three signals that recently appeared in the outer edges of the nebula. They are in a triangular formation a few light years in from the edge, and have been sending out signals together at regular intervals. We know that they were not there before, and the distance between them is measured in light years. So far, an explanation has eluded Starfleet as well as civilian scientists, so we are going to investigate.” Pressing another button, more information was displayed on the screen behind him as well as at each officer’s console at the position they sat. “The Saracen is already preparing to leave Spacedock, do you have any questions so far?”

Captain Knight, CO

Fixing split
“Triangular formation, light years apart, interesting. They have just appeared one day?” Threwn asked curiously.

-XO

DaVinci choose that moment to add his input. “Sir, the nearest planetary system is that of Alpha Tauri, also known as Aldebaran. Aldebaran III is the only habitable planet in the system, which consists of 6 planets total. Aldebaran III is a colonial planet with a successful mining industry. There is also a heavy Federation presence there as it also houses the New Aberdeen Shipyards.”

Colter (CIO)

Teller leaned in to read the information. “It’s not a natural phenomena. Which makes it even more interesting, light years apart, its odd. Its a poorly designed as signal, which presumes faster than light sensors, travel, and enough curiosity to explore it. I guess it could signal someone who doesn’t have FTL comms…” He shook his head like this was a bad hypothesis.
