Some time in the mind

Posted March 12, 2019, 8:49 a.m. by Ensign Saatynn (Science Officer) (Katy Darrah)

It was quiet, and that was how Saatynn liked it. He closed his eyes and was transported far away, back to a mental arena. It was here he chose to face the challenges to who he was by the very culture his people embraced. This was not a new exercise in any sense, but much like he himself, it was ever changing.

He reached up on his back and drew out a custom weapon. Whereas the Lirpa was almost as tall as a full grown man and required two hands to properly wield, Saatynn’s was half the length, the blade extended out in a nearly full circle at one end, and the club at the other end was replaced with a football-shaped spike.

Reaching down to his left side he grabbed a buckler-like item designed to be held in the hand parallel with the palm. Both of these were things he designed in his youth and submitted to the Council as potential replacements for the traditional melee weapons, but they were turned down as not being “efficient” enough.

The first opponent to step forward was Jelvett, a former childhood friend of Saatynn who turned away from his when the two reach maturity and Saatynn still refused to embrace logic.

Saatynn opened his eyes and leaned back in his chair, before putting his elbows on his knees and resting his head in his hands. This was the hardest part, coming to grips with the fact that few Vulcans would probably ever want to be connected with him. Even Linna was a bit off lately, and he feared she would break the bond between them.

He pulled out a Vulcan PADD and looked at it, it was a Vulcan calendar, and he frowned. He was days out from his pon farr. “Computer. Contact Linna on Vulcan please.”
