OOC: We will move it along, remaining DH’s feel free to post joining the thread or simply already here as we go.

IC: Smiling at the question, Dante was about to answer when he realized that neither Colter nor Graham had coffee. The pause was slight, almost undetectable before he continued as if he hadn’t noticed.

“Not in the slightest, Lieutenant,” he said to his CSO, “because that is where our next mission is headed.” He pressed a button on the desk in front of him and behind him on the screen in the War Room, a map of the sector showing an enlarged series of grids around the Betreka Nebula lit up.

“We have been tasked with investigating three signals that recently appeared in the outer edges of the nebula. They are in a triangular formation a few light years in from the edge, and have been sending out signals together at regular intervals. We know that they were not there before, and the distance between them is measured in light years. So far, an explanation has eluded Starfleet as well as civilian scientists, so we are going to investigate.” Pressing another button, more information was displayed on the screen behind him as well as at each officer’s console at the position they sat. “The Saracen is already preparing to leave Spacedock, do you have any questions so far?”

Captain Knight, CO

Fixing split
“Triangular formation, light years apart, interesting. They have just appeared one day?” Threwn asked curiously.

-XO

Dante nodded. “Yep, just like that. One day nothing, the next, pop, signals from nowhere that appear to be linked somehow.”

DaVinci choose that moment to add his input. “Sir, the nearest planetary system is that of Alpha Tauri, also known as Aldebaran. Aldebaran III is the only habitable planet in the system, which consists of 6 planets total. Aldebaran III is a colonial planet with a successful mining industry. There is also a heavy Federation presence there as it also houses the New Aberdeen Shipyards.”

Colter (CIO)

Teller leaned in to read the information. “It’s not a natural phenomena. Which makes it even more interesting, light years apart, its odd. Its a poorly designed as signal, which presumes faster than light sensors, travel, and enough curiosity to explore it. I guess it could signal someone who doesn’t have FTL comms…” He shook his head like this was a bad hypothesis.

Graham

OOC: GM, feel free to jump in with any extra info the PaDD’s may show for the DH’s
OOC: I do have quite a bit of information but I need specific enquiries so I know what to post. Its fine though if you prefer to wait for that til you guys get to the nebula.
It is a 9 day journey from the Starbase to the Nebula but I will fast forward it once you guys start a Bridge post:)

IC: Dante looked at both Graham and Colter and nodded again. “We are going to need to adjust our sensors somewhat to compensate for conditions in the nebula, and we also have Raknal V not too far away from the nebula. It is worth noting it as both the Cardassians and the Klingon Empire claimed it, and it was the cause of the Betreka Nebula Incident that led to those two powers entering a sort of, cold war, from 2328 to 2346. Now I don’t believe that has anything to do with these signals, but it is worth noting. We depart in three hours, make sure all of your staff are back from the Starbase and that the last of the supplies are locked down.”

Captain Knight, CO

“The Nebula is massive, with different electromagnetic systems at different locations. We can do some prep work so we can adjust to the different factors within it, but some of the changes will have to be situational. No one adjustment will prepare us for all circumstances.”

“I trust you can implement the required adjustments, Lieutenant,” Dante said, and it wasn’t a question. Graham was his CSO for a reason. “Our scanners will need to be ready to track these signals as soon as we get in close, we don;t need any interference from other sources giving us dodgy readings.”

Teller tilted his head, but nodded as well. He didn’t want to over promise and under deliver. But he thought he had it covered.

Sipping on her coffee, the CMO looked thoughtful. “Anything in the nebula itself that presents issues for Sickbay that I should be aware of? Higher levels of radiation, anything of that sort?” Satreya asked as she looked for more information about the region itself. It wasn’t one she knew off-hand.

Boja, CMO
OOC: Ohhh woohoo, someone that asks questions!

IC:

The nebula as a T Cluster which meant that it was full of dark matter, stellar nurseries, and extreme gavimetric distortions. There were also Class 4 Pulsars. Given all these factors there was a large amount of electromagnetic radiation, radio waves, visible light, xrays, and gamma radiation.

GM Nosferatu

Bringing up the information requested, Dante brought that data up on one of the screens in the War Room. “Hopefully, everybody has had their regularly scheduled shots?” He grinned, there were more than a few hazards awaiting them. “Lets try to keep away from anything temporal this time shall we? Maybe a nice simple supernovae or something?”

graham

“As I recall Captain, I remember reading something about the nebula being home to smugglers and other sorts of outside the law people.” Threwn stated, pulling up the computer database to confirm his memory.

-XO

The only history on the Bretaka Nebula showed that it was mainly traversed by the Klingons and the Cardassians. With the incident of the Raknal V incident the only other incident in recent history was during the Dominion War when the Dominion used the cover of the Nebula to create a base to make ketracel white.

OOC: I think your thinking of the Briar Patch. It was used as cover by many races of raiders. The Patch is on the opposite side of the quadrant.

“Plenty of Cardassians and Klingons, but between them and the hazards the sorts that inhabit this kind of area aren’t about to be taken lightly.” Dante looked for that report in amongst his data to put up on the screen alongside the medical information.

The greatest danger in the Nebula was the various radiation if the ship got too close to any of the phenomena or the gavimetric distortions. Of course there could always be hiding Cardassian/Klingon ships. :)

GM Nosferatu

Captain Rhodes, CO

Sinclair spoke up and said “Captain, if I may… why the Saracen? Surely a Science vessel would be better equipped to investigate an area like that.”

Sinclair, CNS

“I’ll call up all the reported traffic in the nebula, their sensor reports, correlate them, then account for stellar drift, gravemetric effects as well as subspace eddies and try to come up with a reasonable map of what to expect both materially and navigation wise.

Graham.

“What kinds of navigational threats might this Nebula pose to the Saracen?” Gavain spoke up. “And can we pinpoint what frequencies of EM radiation are being emitted specifically by the new signals, perhaps by comparing the spectrum before and after they showed up?”

Gavain, COO
