DaVinci smiled as he ronded the corner of the corridor. Kavia was out of eyesight, but he definitely heard her final comment as he walked away.

The ‘interrogation’ had gone better than he had expected and was much more pleasureable than he expected as well. Kavia was very forthcoming and open about her reasons for being here. His gut told him she had been truthful in all that she had said.

As he reached the Ready Room, he finished organizing his thoughts to report to the CO. Leaving the intimate details of their encounter in the back of his mind, he couldn’t help but let his lip turn up into a mischievous grin.

Running a hand through his short hair one more time, the CIO pressed the chime. . . .

Colter (CIO)

=/\=Colter....Colter=/\= a voice came through his comm badge followed by a thumping, blowing swoosh, and mumbling sound about how this darn thing works.

The chime would ring once more as Colter got the comm call.

=/\=Hey Colter=/\= Kavia’s voice came over the comm system no longer sounding perplexed but bright and happy.

=/\= Okay so the quarters are great but looking out of the window is a little dull so I was talking to the guy Blakely you have outside the door. I am not sure he knows what to say to me so he handed me this communications thing and told me it will reach you. Anyway do you have a Tolaikkāṭci? =/\= Kavai asked.?

=^=Gesundheit, =^= DaVinci replied.

Kavia could not help break out in a bubble of laughter. She had no idea what he had just said to her but the tone in his voice indicated he had no idea what she had said to him. Humor was so attractive in a man. It showed they had confidence in themselves to relax and just enjoy the small moment’s life gave you.

=/\= A Tolaikkāṭci is a device that we use for entertainment purposes. It contains things like music, theatrical works, informational programs, news,=/\= she rattled off a list of items. =/\= Do you guys have anything like that or do you sit around waiting for a supernova to pop off? =/\= she asked looking out the are window into space.

Kavia

=^=Oh, that wasn’t a sneeze. Yeah, on the far wall, across from the door, there’s a monitor. Hold on a sec.=^=

=/\=I met a young man by the name of Brim. I laughed and joked spending all day with him=/\= Kavia half sang half hummed a song from home as she waited for Colter to do whatever he was doing on his end as she looked around the room. Waiting uietly was never her strong suit.

The CIO raised his PADD and typed in some commands. After a few moments of silence, he replied. =^=There, I’ve given you access to the ships entertainment library. Like the replicator and holodeck, just ask the computer to play some music, or video. Tell it the kind of genre you want to watch or listen to, and the computer will give you some suggestions. If I may suggest something, ask for The Princess Bride. It’s a classic from my time. It’s got fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles! Everything you could ask for.=^=

Colter (CIO)

=/\=If I ask for you will it give me that=/\= she said playfully moving to the seating area and flopping down like she was a sixteen-year-old kid.

=/\=Princess Bride=/\= she uttered out loud in the room. Instantly the show started. =/\=Okay it works. Go get done what you need and I’ll be waiting=/\= she said lounging back on the couch.

Kavia

Before closing the comm, he replied, =^=As you wish.=^=

If she was confused by his response, it would become clear after a few moments of watching the movie.

DaVinci pressed the chime again, awaiting the captain’s reply.. . . .

Colter (CIO)

The door slid open and showed the Captain at his desk, hand raised and waving him forwards, then pointing to one of the seats in front of his desk.

DaVinci quietly entered the room and took the offered seat. He remained quiet as the Captain continued.

=/\= Keep us informed of the situation =/\= came the voice from the console, =/\= First Contact can always go either well or downhill rather fast if someone tried to attach our values on an alien culture. We understand she didn’t even beam in, we don’t know what kind of other-universe diseases she might be carrying. If anybody even so much as sneezes the wrong colored goop out their nose or anywhere else, we’re putting the Saracen on lock down Captain. =/\=

The CIO chuckled at the comments, but to himself thought if Kavia did have any extra-terrestrial diseases, he probably had them as well.

Throughout the monologue, which went on for another minute or so in a similar vein, Dante made all the motions of listening and nodding in the right spots. “I assure you Admiral, my crew are consummate professionals and know where to stick their noses and where not to. My Chief Intelligence Officer has given her a tour of the ship and treated her to a bit of holodeck time, I’m sure he got a good feel for our visitor and her intentions. If she tries any hanky panky, I’m sure we will get more than she can chew Admiral. Knight out.”

Again to himself, DaVinci thought, Oh yes, I go to know her pretty well, inside and out.

Turning off the console, Dante sat back and pressed a button on his desk that locked the door, then leaned back in his chair and put his feet up on the desk. He looked at Colter for a moment and narrowed his eyes, then opened a drawer and took out a bottle and two small glasses. Placing them on the desk, he filled each one with a half measure of Lagavulin whiskey. “You look tired, Daniel,” he said using Colters first name and letting him know this was an informal discussion. “She didn’t talk as much as she did in that briefing room did she? Did you happen to find out anything interesting about her?” He pushed one of the glasses towards Colter and picked up his own “You’re off the clock, by the way. Drink up, looks like you need it.”

Captain Knight, CO

DaVinci tipped the glass back and emptied all it’s conents at once. Choosing his words carefully, he replied, “Kavia most definitely kept me busy, Dante. It was an exhausting, but eventful afternoon.”

He set the empty glass back on the desk and continued. “The interrogation went well. I learned some things about where she’s from. Kavia was very forthcoming with the information, but of course at this time there’s no way confirm any of what she shared. My gut tells me that she was on the level. That she truly means no harm to us, the ship, or Dr. Boja. She merely wants the information Satreya has locked in her sub-conscious and won’t cause any problems if Satreya is unwilling to share that information or go back with.”

Colter (CIO)
