1555 Hours came, and saw Dante sitting in his chair on the Bridge while the NE’s around him ran through final checks and preparations for un-docking and getting underway.

At the Starbase, the newly refitted U.S.S. Saracen was resplendent in her new dark grey paint scheme, her red Federation ‘racing stripes’ on the side of the Hull standing out against the Grey, the yellow Starfleet arrowhead pointing on-wards. New warp coils and a new reactor purred at rest while her formidable armament lay hidden within the sleek design while on the saucer the lights emphasized her name and registry.

On the inside, the Bridge had new carpet and shiny new consoles. The Captains and XO’s seats even had cup holders. Inside the cup holder beside him, Dante had a much smaller cup than he normally kept with him. Apparently, installing ‘Captain Size’ cup holders wasn’t an option.

“Helm, lay in course for the Betreka Nebula. Once we are clear of Space Dock, move to Warp 6 so we can run in the engines properly. Lets get clearance do release the docking clamps. How are we doing, Commander?” He asked his Executive Officer, “No last minute emergencies?”

Captain Knight, CO

“No last minute emergencies. Captain, all stations report ready.” Threwn reported in an official tone.

“Proximity scans are clear, we a free to maneuver and our flight path is open, we are free to go to warp.”

Graham

“Star base concurs Captain,” Master Chief Gordon reported from an aft station. “They wish us godspeed.”

As the 2nd officer, DaVinci was seated in the seat left of the captain. On the display screen on the arm of the chair, he flipped through the various camera angles displaying the Saracen’s exterior. “She sure is looking bright and shiny, Cap’n. She’s even got that new car smell.”

Colter (CIO)

OOC: I forgot about that seat! It can have a cup holder too.

IC: Dante smirked slightly as he looked over at the screen DaVinci was looking at. “Lets try and keep it that way, hopefully Ensign Kane’s animals don’t get loose and make it smell like wet dog.”

The mooring lines holding the Saracen in place were released, and everybody on board felt the gentle vibration as the ships thrusters moved them a safe distance away from the station before the impulse engines kicked in. “Clear of the station Sir,” the NE at the Helm informed the Bridge. “Ready to go to Warp 6.”

Leaning back in his chair to settle in, he nodded at the NE. “Lets go.” Seconds later, the Saracen jumped to Warp, destination, the Betreka Nebula.

Captain Knight, CO

It was a nine day trip at Warp 6 to get from Starbase 257 to the Breteka Nebula, fortunately the trip was fairly mundane and quiet. On day 7 the comms began to pick up on outgoing radio chatter from the planet Aldebaran III, which was the closest planet to an arm of the nebula that jutted out toward it. Aldebaran III was a Class M planet orbiting the Aldebaran sun and was colonized by humans many centuries before and is well known for its various mineral mines.

On day nine during the late hours of the night shift, the Saracen reached the outer reaches of the nebula. The outer reaches of the nebula was a constantly moving opaque cloud of gas and dust. The gaseous makeup of the clouds was mostly hydrogen and helium. Not particularly dangerous for a ship the size of the Saracen but care would have to be taken in keeping the manifolds clean. High warp was also not recommended as there could be pockets of more dangerous gases in a nebula that was so unstable.

GM Nosferatu

“Master Chief, we are approaching the nebula.” the young NE at helm reported. As usual, Master Chief Gordon was manning the night shift watch. He was one of the few non-commissioned officers to take and pass the bridge officer test. As he wasn’t a member of the senior staff, and because he preferred to, he usually worked the night shift. He felt it was a great time to get to know some of the new and up and coming officers and crewmen.

“Take us out of warp.” Gordon ordered from the center seat. He was relaxed, he had been briefed that the ship would arrive at his shift. “Scan the nebula.”

“I am reading gasous clouds of hydrogen and helium, with some space dust added sir.” the NE at ops reported briefly. “I would recommend against going in there at warp.” He continued, turning to look at the Master Chief. Gordon smiled.

“We won’t. Take us to the perimeter of the nebula, half impulse. Can you scan the interior of the nebula Ensign?” He asked the young Vulcan NE at ops.

-CMDCM

OOC: In theory, the Nameless Ensign at Helm and likely at science both would out rank the Master Chief.
