It had been a good while since he had been out on a ship in a while. He was headed towards the USS Manhattan before they reached out on a subspace communicator with new orders to a space station that needed extra security for some delegates from another species that were going to be staying there for a while. Regardless of the reasoning, Gareth did as he was instructed to the best of his abilities, thankfully nothing crazy had happened and he was glad to be heading to another ship. He didn’t really like being grounded to one spot anymore knowing that on a star ship he could be out anywhere to help as many people as possible.

He had been traveling with a NLt (jg) from the station that was transporting him to the USS Saracen. He was almost dismayed once Starbase 257 came into sensor range. “Relax Ensign, that’s not where you’re going. The ship is only currently docked here.” He said with a sideways grin.

“I’m that easy to read huh ..?” Gareth laughed a bit. He spent a good deal of time with this Lt (jg), they would occasionally hang out in the lounge, but most of their time was always in the holosuites. Running through their catalog was almost religious to them. From WW2 campaigns, to murder mysteries, even to some Klingon historical battles as well. “It’s probably gonna be boring without ya there Hicks. You should seriously consider transferring sometime.”
NLt (jg) Hicks waved his hand dismissively “Yeah, yeah, I’ll think about it. In the mean time reach out to the ship, we’re on our approach now.”

Tapping a few buttons to open up the comm frequencies, Mike spoke up, “USS Saracen, this is the USS Taranis, requesting permission to dock.

Upon getting permission to dock, the gently set down in the ships shuttle bay 2. Mike stood up and stretched, yawning loudly. The travel had taken a good amount of time, but he was finally here. He was a bit reluctant, but he extended his arm out towards Hicks. After a moment it clicked and Hicks stood up and shook his hand in farewell. “See ya around Lieutenant.” he said somewhat sarcastically. “Take care of your family, gonna miss them too!” With a last laugh before hopping out the door of the shuttle he took a look around his new home away from home.

Elmira had arrived only a few days prior to the good Ensign, and found herself meadering about the ship, retracing her steps from the initial tour she had been given. Coincidentially, she had been heading by the shuttlebay, when a young crewman stepped inside, allowing her a brief glimspe of what was going on inside. Another shuttle had arrived, and with it, who she could only assume to be a new officer. While she knew the prospective of having any new Tactical officer was low, she still wondered who this new arrival was. Curiously, she followed the young crewman, offering a forced smile to him, when he nodded in acknowledgement to her precense. Noticing the man stepping from the shuttle, she decided she might as well see who he was and ask if he needed any help.

“Good day,” The Betazoid approached him, that odd smile somewhat misplaced upon her face. “Welcome to the Saracen.” She gestured to the shuttlebay where she had arrived just a few days before.

As it currently was, despite his outer neutral, semi-smiled appearance he was a mix of emotions inside. Sad, anxious, curious, excited, with a slight bit of dread for some reason. Though it could easily be told that he was definitely glad to be there. The fiery headed woman was caught at the very outskirts of his eyesight, but the vibrant color immediately caught his attention amongst all the grey walls and gold colored uniforms of Engineering walking around. He nodded politely, as a flood of thoughts ran through his head, (forgive the mess I’m about to do, but I just wanna emphasize how quickly he ran through a bunch of things lol) ‘Ohwowwhoisthat?Ilikeherhair.Iwonderwhatkindofredthatis?She’ssotinyit’skindacute.Woahwaitwhatareyousayingthatsalieutenantyou’retalkingabouttherefocus.Youcan’tthinklikethat.Whydoesshehaveblackeyes?Thatsprettycoolnowstopstandingaroundsaysomething.’ The noise would fade into a clear two words, ‘Say hi’ He re-adjusted one of his bags on his left shoulder quickly before replying, “Ah, good afternoon Lieutenant .. Thank you, it’s good to be here.” ‘thatwasstupiiiiid…‘ Behind his smile if one was looking carefully enough they could probably see a slight wince at those thoughts.

Ensign Mike Gareth (Security?)

OOC: That was amazing. Lol!
IC:
She was bombarded by the conflicted emotions of this man, thoughts she could not accurately place without giving herself a migriane in the process. This man had a mind running faster than warp speed, and a part of her wondered why. Closing her eyes, the havoc of his mind draining her energy, she forced away his thoughts, brushing them off like dust off of an old coat. It was easier that way, before she was overwhelmed by his thoughts about.. her. “It is good to have you, Ensign. Do you need any help with your kit or anything?” She asked, brushing red hair from her face, with a smile as fiery as it was amicable..ish. Elmira could see the wince in his words, but she fought the urge to make some crude remark about it.

OOC: Sorry this has taken so long for me to reply! Work has been a total nightmare lately .. basically in a sink or swim kind of situation right now x_x

IC: He shook he head for a moment, not necessarily dismissing her help with anything, but somewhat at himself. “Ah sorry Lieutenant .. just being new on a ship is something I never quite get used to .. I could probably use some help navigating around if anything ..? I’m not quite sure where anything is at the moment, but carrying a bad or two isn’t a problem at all. Not that I’m saying you couldn’t carry one or anything ..” His broad shouldered, tall nature tended to carry a bit of intimidation with it at times, but his personality seemed to conflict with it a lot, more of a friendly person behind it his bluish/greenish eyes followed her hair as she brushed it aside. “Being new again is just kind of an odd feeling I suppose ..” his tone was completely different in his last remark, though he didn’t say anything more after that.

Ensign Mike Gareth (Security)

“You’ll never get used to the feeling. Being new is not exactly the most pleasant of experiences, but you have the chance to explore and learn of a new location you likely hadn’t been prior.” Elmira shrugged her shoulders, a tone of indifference coming through her voice. She had never been bothered by a change in location, everything she assumed to work on a specific path. Should her path lead her to another destination, then so be it. Although she could not fully understand what Mike meant, she held enough sympathy for his case to try. “None taken,” Elmira wove a hand, hardly offended by his comment. “Where do you need to go?” The diminutive Betazoid rose her head to meet his gaze, but she did not express any intimidation by his towering figure. Either Elmira was a master of hiding her emotions, or she just didn’t give a damn.

OOC: Boop! :D

OOC: Ah! This was so far back I had forgotten about it!

“That is true .. being able to explore different places is really one of the reasons that I joined Starfleet!” He relaxed a little bit and gave a small laugh. “Just one small place of many on this adventure I suppose? As for the most immediate next place to explore .. would most likely be figuring out where my quarters is so that I can drop my junk off before checking in.” He re-adjusted the bag hanging off his shoulder, bringing it back in closer to his neck as it was slowly starting to slide off of it. “I don’t think I’ve been on a ship like this one before .. is it one of the newer fleet models ..?” He was pulling random subjects off his mind as a way of just trying to make some small talk so that they wouldn’t have to walk in awkward silence, who knows, maybe he could even figure out if she liked any of the topics since it would give him an idea of something to talk about again if he ran into her in the hallways some time or another.

Ensign Mike Gareth (Security)

“You could say that,” Elmira nodded. “The Saracen was recently remodeled. I’m not positive to the story behind it; I haven’t been aboard her long enough to know.” She shrugged, casting a glance down the hall. It had been a short time since she was in position, aimlessly trying to figure out where she was meant to be going. The least she could do was help a friend out. “What number have you been assigned?” She asked, debating which deck his quarters might be on. Elmira may be new to the ship, but she was guilty of studying its layout and specifications. She didn’t have many friends, most frightened by her characteristically moody nature, so she found company in reading.

He looked around at the bags he was carrying trying to remember exactly which one he put his PADD in before holding out the dufflebag in his right hand by one of the handles. “Sorry to trouble you Lieutenant .. but I think I have my PADD in this one which has my assigned number.. think you could unzip it and grab it really fast..?” A somewhat of a half smirk sort of appeared on his face as he continued, “Don’t worry .. there’s nothing really personal in that bag.” Not that he really minded about anything personal. Being in the Militia back on his home colony didn’t really have any sort of ‘personal’ zones. The people you fought and trained with became your family. It didn’t matter if they saw a picture, your undergarments, or even if they were showering next to you in squad showers. After a while.. you just didn’t mind anymore. There were more important things to worry about. The only thing he remembered putting in the bag was an extra uniform, some socks, a few pictures of his family, and a combat knife that he brought with him which usually stayed in his his quarters.

Ensign Mike Gareth (Security)

“You’re making me skeptical, Ensign.” Elmira squinted, raising a ginger eyebrow. “Are you positive I won’t find a bomb, or a map of classified Marine Corp base?”

Gareth shrugged casually, “You’d never know unless you looked of course..” He tauntingly shook his dufflebag side to side, only slightly jiggling the contents inside.

A smirk ghosted her lips, Elmira came around his side, unzipping the duffle hanging from his open hand. She didn’t care about the contents of the bag, that was his business, not her own. Although, while searching for the PaDD, she caught sight of combat knife. “Are you ex-Military?” She asked, pulling the PaDD from among the extra uniform and socks. Turning it on, she briefly went through and found his assigned quarters. “You’re in luck. I do know where this one is.”

He jerked the bag up sharply after she pulled the PADD out to swing the other handle up and catch it. “I’m not sure if you’d qualify a local militiaman as military, but I spent a good amount of time in our colonies’ local militia back over near Bajor. Life along the DMZ wasn’t all that great, but we’d always do what we could to make sure everyone was safe. Though that wasn’t always the case when raiders would show up.” He tilted his head and looked up for a moment. “Technically Starfleet is the closest to any sort of real military that I’ve been in?” His eyes lit up a bit and he was slightly relieved to hear that she knew where his assigned quarters was, it definitely saved him a lot of aimless wandering if she hadn’t been around. “You’re seriously a lifesaver!”
