He ground his teeth together, wondering if this was some pathetic ploy on her part to try and remain on duty despite her outrageous remarks. He worked hard for several seconds to tamp down the rage that put adrenaline in his stomach and had his hand shaking slightly. He grabbed the tricorder he’d dropped in his scuffle with the security officer, running the probe over himself without taking his eyes off the Doctor he had an irresistable urge to physically throw through the doors. After a moment, he looked at his own readings, before gesturing two of the nurses to grab the unconscious security officer and put him back on the table. As they complied, he activated the scan terminal that rose up in its circular arc, closing over the officers mid-chest like a vice grip. He took a blood sample with a hypospray and docked the sample vessel with the top of the scanner platform, beginning a full microcellular analysis. He understood what he had seen on his own personal scan but knew that even medical tricorders were limited in their capacity for deep cellular scans. Still not addressing Daye, he waited for the full results.

Harrison (CMO)

The results corroborated Daye’s hypothesis of high adrenaline and noradrenaline with high cortisol levels in both himself and the Sec NE. The high cortisol corresponded with the increased flight or flight reactions among all the crew.

GM Nosferatu

OOC: Just fixing: high cortisol=high flight or fight

It was becoming difficult to concentrate. He brought his fist down on the side of the biobed as a focus for the rage he felt. It was a trick the Bolians had taught him as a boy. He gritted his teeth, focusing all of his energy on the situation at hand. He slapped open the cover on the trauma cart next to the biobed, his movement becoming less shaky as the ship inexplicably calmed a little. He turned back to the unconscious officer under the scanner terminal before him and placed the cortical inhibitor he had pulled out of the cart on the mans forehead. Tapping instructions directly into the unit, he followed up with a command string from the scanner, adjusting the field generated by the inhibitor to artificially reduce cortisol production. That should be sufficient to inhibit the reactions occurring in their brains. He ran a second scan on the patient to monitor its effects

Harrison (CMO)

There was a marked decrease in the cortisol levels. Having to use the inhibitor on each and every crew member would not be very efficient though.

GM Nosferatu

He grabbed two more inhibitors from nearby kits, programming each with identical settings. One he slapped on his forehead, the other he tossed at Daye, with a curt “Put it on!”. He felt the rage begin to subside rapidly as the inhibitor did its work. The question was, what was causing this issue and was it shipwide. He slapped his commbadge =^= Harrison to Science Lab 1, I need an analysis of the environmental controls run immediately. We may have a contaminant aboard affecting the crew. =^=

CMO

“My I suggest we give the people experiencing this 50mg of Impedrizine. There are not enough of these to go around,” Daye held up the equipment the CMO just tossed her. “While it is not going to stop the production of adrenaline, Impedrizine is a beta blocker which will block the effects of the hormone adrenaline. It also has the effect of making your heart beat more slowly and with less force, thereby reducing blood pressure. If we can keep everyone’s breathing and cardiac rhythms regular it will help with the outbursts no different than the physiological effects of deep breaths. You can’t be angry doing yoga. Resentful but not actively angry,” she suggested as she dosed herself waiting to see how well the shot would work. Almost immediately she felt at least her body relaxing. Her heart wasn’t pounding in her chest and she could think far more clearly. The effects would only last 12 hours but they were working.

Lt. Natasha Daye, medical

Actually the dose of Impedrizine that Daye took would have no effect on her psyche unless it was placebolike. A scan by a tricorder would show no appreciable effect on either adrenaline or cortisol. Though it did appear to be reducing some inflammation she had in her knee. As it was usually used in burn treatments it was meant to reduce swelling and promote tissue regrowth.

<OOC SNIP!>

Shock crossed his face as she injected herself. If the cortical stimulator on his forehead wasn’t working overtime to calm him, it’s likely he would have exploded again. He spoke calmly, slowly and assertively “Put. On. The. Inhibitor. Doctor. You aren’t acting or thinking as yourself right now. You need to put on the inhibitor. We will care for everyone else once we ourselves are secure. If you were thinking straight, you’d recall that impedrizine only works on biological and chemical psychoactive compounds. We don’t currently know if it is either, although I’d say we could rule that out, given that it doesn’t appear to have worked. Work with me, here. We need to find out what it is that’s causing this. Is it just sections of the ship or the entire thing? Given the shaking that’s been going on and our current mission, it’s entirely possible something outside the ship is affecting us. I’ll continue to coordinate with Science, you contact the Bridge and see if there’s some unusual energy readings that could be affecting us. We also need to find out if it’s a single species, or all species.” he tapped his commbadge, unsure why she hadn’t yet materialized =^= Harrison to Dalton, I could really use some help in Sickbay. =^=

Harrison (CMO)

“Sir, I agree that none of us are thinking correctly but cortical stimulator are used to revive neural activity in the nervous system of critical patients by delivering an electrical shock to induce brain activity,” she gave the textbook definition of the device he just named. “Electricity is not the way to go and since I am pregnant with the Captain’s baby I am not sure he would be approved with electro-shock therapy on his baby.”

“You also said inhibitor which I am assuming you meant cortical inhibitor. A cortical inhibitor is a device used to control theta wave activity in the brain,” she again gave the textbook definition learned at Starfleet medical. “Sir, we both know theta waves were a type of brain waves seen on an EEG that were usually experienced just before or after a period of deep sleep. God I hope this is a dream but if its not I am not sure how that is going to help.

“Impredizine is listed at a way to stimulate cardiac functions but this does not mean it necessarily increases a heart rate. There are a billion and one other thing this drug does. It widens the arteries so that blood flow is easier which takes away that pounding you feel when you are upset or nervous in addition to actually increase blood pressure when needed depending on the dosage. When you have a situation where you are looking to decrease the rate of blood to your body you use a beta blocker because it helps to reduce your blood pressure. Beta blockers block the effect of adrenaline so that when you take them your heart beats more slowly and with less force, thereby reducing blood pressure. We both know that high blood pressure in pregnancy can lead to low birth weight, preterm labor or in the worst circumstance preeclampsia. Sir in good conscious I can’t use the cortical stimulator and I am not sure you would survive Dante is something ever happened to his baby. I have no idea if this is going to work but women have been having babies since the dawn of time and way before modern medicine.” Unfortunately, the Impedrizine had no appreciable effect on Daye. This meant she would have to go old school with deep breathing and meditation. She was Russian and being Russian meant she was generally angry at the world. Dante didn’t nickname her his little Cossack for no reason. Heck even the word hello in her native language sounded like you were trying to picking a fight instead of greeting a friend. Using her cultural heritage might actually help this time.

Taking a deep breath she focused all her attention on her superior officer. “Sir no one right now is more motivated than me to figure this out so tell me what you want me to do and where. I will run any sample, treat any patient, or go anywhere you want me to. I just need an order to do something to actively fix this problem. Give me something to do to help you fix this,” Daye said fixing a level gaze at him. Natasha had worked blazingly angry at times over the years. Most of the time it was after a conversation with Dante that had gone south and then Dante claimed they needed him on the bridge. Right now Natasha would do the million things she had overtime to try and calm down until the CMO found a way to save them.

Lt. Natasha Daye medical

“Put. On. The. Inhibitor. Doctor. If you aren’t calm or rational, you’re no use to me. If you’re going to put it on, do as I’ve asked and contact the Bridge; if you aren’t, return to your quarters.”

Harrison (CMO)

“Then I will return to my quarters, Sir,” Daye said with a slight nod and exited the sick bay.

Lt. Natasha Daye medical

A groan came from the biobed where the unconscious NE Security officer had lain and his head began to move side to side as he started to come around. “Where am I?” He asked groggily.

GM Nosferatu

He shrugged off what little irritation was able to make its way past the inhibitor, sighing audibly before turning back to the biobed as he heard the man groan. He gestured for Nurse Longstreet to join him, having little doubt that her bulk would be more than sufficient to overwhelm him should things go south again. He mustered the best bedside manner he could under the circumstances, producing a slightly forced “You’re in SIckbay, Ensign. You had a bit of a turn. How do you feel?”

Harrison (CMO)

“Like I have been on a bender.” The officer said as a hand went to his head finding the neural inhibitor.”What?” He said in confusion.
