“Simulations are over 80% success rate.” He looked at the XO. “Better than what we have going now.” At this rate anything would be better than waiting it out. He nodded at the Commander. “I have the program set, if you give the word.”

Graham CSO

“Proceed Lieutenant.” Threwn stated simply, getting up to get a better look at operations. “Lieutenant Gavain, any luck with those signals?”

-XO

“Got-cha, sir.” Graham tapped a few more keys. Once the program was written, running it was easy.

The CSO’s idea about changing the angle of the shields to simulate the prow of a ship so they could ‘ride the waves’ seemed to have a dramatic effect as the shaking and buffeting of the ship decreased markedly. As to the signals, they still pulsated strongly ahead.

GM Nosferatu

DaVinci turned his head and nodded in Graham’s direction. “Good call, Lt.”

“That’s why you pay me the medium bucks.”

He moved to the tactical station on the bridge, looking for any signs that there might be other ships within the nebula, whether they be friendly or hostile.

Colter (CIO)

Unfortunately, despite the tweaking of the sensors, being able to see another ship in this soup would be difficult until it was well within weapons range. On the plus side, hopefully any other ship would have the same trouble.

GM Nosferatu

Graham

‘Nice work people.” Dante said and kept his eyes on the screen showing the space in front of them. “Lets keep alert and keep the scanners going. The Klingons and Cardassians have far more experience in this Nebula than we do, lets not trust that they won’t jump to any conclusions should we pass by just out of identification range.”

He glanced over at Threwn before addressing his officers. “What is the status of the radiation, and how long to go till we reach the first signal?”

Captain Knight, CO

Vadoma kept her fingers flying over her console. She was checking the radiation levels as well as how they were affecting the ship’s engines. While they were being less buffetted, physically, the readings she was about to receive would let her know if it was any better than shaking apart.

Vadoma
Engineer

The typical radiation, such as EM, UV, infrared, and gamma, were definitely rising the closer to the signals they came. The most concerning of these was of course the Gamma radiation which damaged living tissue. The percentage increase of the Gamma radiation was concerning but there ways they could deal with that. What was unusual was an unknown radiation that registered on their sensors which was not on the list of known radiations.

GM Nosferatu

“Might want to get medical to start radiation inoculations, Sir.” Graham said as he looked at the readings… “We have many radiation types hitting the ship… K and L bands with EM, gamma…” Graham hummed to himself. “Hulk Smash.... Sir we have an energy reading… its a radiation type that I haven’t seen before.” He put it in a box on the main screen. “Its a wave pattern…” He shrugged. “I don’t know, I’ll try to back track a scan to it source.” Maybe finding out what caused it will inform him of what it was.

Graham

The unknown radiation signal was coming from the same area of the unknown signals and closer scans showed a Class 4 Pulsar which was not alone but was being orbited by a dichromic nebula. It appeared that the orbiting of the duo was what was causing the high radiation readings which were radiating from in a outward spiral effect.

GM Nosferatu

“They are all coming from a Pulsar,” Teller nodded off slightly to starboard as if that was going to explain the course. “There’s an atypical nebula affecting the radiation causing spiked effects. You know I just dealt with a weird conduct issue in science not fifteen minutes ago. This radiation could be affecting the mood centers of the brain.” Teller hit a few buttons.

“I’d like to try setting up an inverse wave in the shields to target the unknown radiation. It would be a stop gap at best.”

Graham. CSO

Adam turned to look at the Captain, looking for his decision on the subject.

-XO

Graham would know that changing the shields to an inverse wave would change it from the ‘prow’ configuration he now had them in, putting them at risk of the gravimetric sheer.

GM Nosferatu

“Well, we have an rock and hard place issue.” Graham commented. The only upside it was over his pay grade. “I think we are having emotional issues related to the unidentified radiation so as the exposure increases I think it is only likely the behaviors will increase. Unfortunately my shield adjustment to block the radiation take it out of the prow formation exposing us to the physical impact of the sheer waves… so … orders.”

Graham. CSO

Izzy’s fingers danced over the helm controls, making continuous micro adjustments to the ships’ attitude to help ‘ride the wave’ and keep her as steady as possible. It felt like the time she had tried out the surfing program on the holodeck with that cute Aussie ensign, only this time the wave was continuously shifting in three dimensions and her surfboard was roughly 500 metres long.

“Blah blah science, blah blah I’m so clever” she muttered under her breath, annoyed that the geeks seemed intent on destroying her concentration with their chatter. Didn’t they realise she had more important stuff to do than listen to their gabble, like fly the damn ship??

Izzy Gonzales - Helm Officer

With Graham’s mention of behaviors becoming irrational, aggressive, the CIO to send an all call throughout the ship.

=^=All ships station and departments, status report.=^=

Colter (CIO)

Teller turned and looked at him with his hands out, in the what am I supposed to do, as there was little way he could give a report on his department while he was working on the bridge.

Vadoma giggled at the helm’s muttering. Her own mutterings were flooded with giggles. “Could always just fly backwards.” In her mind the reverse motion would allow more shielding with the conical protection. Evac the aft most sections and cruise… In reverse.

Vadoma
Engineer

Not completely aware of what was happening on the bridge, Sha had just sent an Ensign to his quarters for an outburst that was wholly uncharacteristic. At the comm from the CIO, she frowned. Rubbing her temple, unaware her own irritation was rising, her voice came over the comms a bit more harsh than intended. =^= Triton here… We’re fine. One man down this shift. Anything else, sir?=^= Why they were asking for check in when she’d given her report at the last DH briefing was beyond her.

Lt Sha Triton
CoS

CSO

Izzy shot the CIO a look at yet another interruption to her concentration, exactly what could be so damned important that he wanted reporting anyway? Why couldn’t these guys just let her get on with the real job in hand here, saving their collective butts??

It almost made her wish she was back in the test pilot program, flying that experimental fighter. Ok, it had developed a tendency to blow up but at least flying the single seat craft meant she could get some damn QUIET to use her skills without all this chit chat!

Her fingers continued to work the control pad, using a fair bit more force than was possibly necessary, the tips of her fingers turning white with the pressure exerted. What was the point in having the best pilot in the fleet if everyone couldn’t just shush and let her get on with saving the day once again??

Izzy Gonzales - helm officer

DaVinci noticed the helmsman look in his direction. Was that annoyance on her face? He hadn’t yet had any real interaction with her other than bridge duty, but felt compelled to keep an eye on her.

“Lieutenant, work with helm to set up that inversion wave, Let’s ride this wave.” Adam ordered, returning to his chair.

-XO

“Yes, sir,” Teller could set up either function. It was the results he couldn’t control. “Rock it is.”

Vadoma straightened in her seat with a bit of a giggle. So they weren’t flying backwards. But she could help, anyway.

As the others worked on the ship’s position, she made sure the required power was available as engineering vamped up on their received orders from the helm.

Vadoma

=/\=Science Labs, Dalton here. Just trying to keep the peace and looking into that pulsar and nebula. Dichromatic nebulas are known to have intense gravimetric distortions, as I’m sure you’re well aware. Also, I’m currently mobile, just so know, so if you need me intervening in the computer, you’ll have to ask nicely and give me time to make it happen.=/\=

Graham

After compiling the information from ships stations and witnessing Lt. Gonzales look at him, there was something going on. Was she being affected by whatever was causing the aggression throughout the ship?

“Captain, I’m getting reports from all over the ship. People are lashing out with hostility for no reason, becoming physically aggressive, verbally abusive, and insubordinate and just plain old mean to each other. It would appear that Lt. Gonzales is showing signs of becoming affected.”

“I’m five by five… XO” Graham offered without being asked.

He watched Speedy and prepared for her to let loose with some behavior unbecoming of a bridge officer. With one eye on her, he addressed Graham.

“Lt. Graham I’m no scientist, so this is jjust a guess, but is there any kind of known radiation that can have this effect on people?”

Thinking back to his childhood, the CIO was reminded of a television show in which the main character was a mild-mannered scientist, but due to gamma radiation became a giant ramaging beast when angered.

Colter (CIO)

OOC: Seems to be a miss communication here, just to be clear, Izzy hasn’t exhibited any external signs other than a side long glance, pushing the controls a bit hard, and muttering something that would have been inaudible to anyone not leaning over her shoulder, all the above is purely internal dialogue. Please can the above be amended to reflect this?

-Ffi

OOC: Sorry, I misunderstood. Correcting it above. –Terry

Colter (CIO)

“All radiation has effect on people,” He shrugged, “Sunlight has a positive effect on mood, but this seems to be effecting people like a drug. It has to be effecting brain waves or something really close to that. ” He tapped a few keys to start a search, one to determine if the radiation was having a resonance effect on brain waves and the second to see if there was a record of this effect in the science logs.

Izzy caught the look the CIO gave her, what was his problem?! She thought to herself, Couldn’t he see how busy she was just trying keep the ship from battering itself to pieces??

Maybe the brain wave radiation thing the science guy mentioned was affecting him? Making him paranoid?? Obviously it wouldn’t effect her, she was far too tough and smart for that!!! Maybe the CIO didn’t have her amazing mental fortitude and iron discipline though?!?

She resolved to keep an eye on him when she could spare it.
