“The sensors show the gravimetric distortions can be mapped to a certain degree and are consistent waves though they are oscillating in an unpredictable manner. Running them through the computer to see if that can explain why,” Kalani said tapping the console.

In this region it appeared that the close proximity of the dichromic nebula and Class 4 Pulsar were what was causing the strange oscillations that rolled over the distortions that were normal to the Bretaka Nebula. The strange distortions were emanating from the pair.

“The oscillations it seems are because of its close proximity of the dichromic nebula and Class 4 Pulsar even though these oscillations are normal to the Bretaka Nebula,” Kalani read off the results from the console.

As the Science team was studying their readings on the distortions and discussing them the ship suddenly shuddered and explosions could be heard dimly through the walls indicating that something was breaking somewhere. The lights and power dimmed in the labs as emergency power took over.

=/\=Jarred=/\= Kalani’s hand instantly went to her comm badge. =/\=Commander we are on emergency power here in the labs=/\= This statement was going to be obvious to him but it also served a second purpose and one Jarred would instantly understand. He was the chief engineer. Nothing happened on this ship he wasn’t aware of including the fact that Kalani above all else worried about him. The distant explosions could be anything. It could also mean something was happening in his engine room and that something could mean he was hurt or injured. As long as he replied it would assure Kalani he was okay and doing what he was trained to do.

Cori swore under her breath, such as it was. “Luckily for me I’m on my emitter,” she muttered. She was now acutely aware that moving in and out of the system would be a bad idea for the time being. But she had a good while of battery on her emitter. Unfortunately, it made her more vulnerable. Should anything happen to her emitter outside of a holographic space, well, she was screwed.

While Kane made the comm, Dalton eyed the data. “This nebula… if they are interacting against each other, and we can’t predict the distortions, we really should just get the hell out of here. Also, the less everyone acts all weird, the better for me too, generally.” She wasn’t keen on being the only sane one aboard. “The bridge is bringing in the probe. At least I can get closer. I think. Not sure how that radiation might effect my emitter though.”

“Agreed. That is why if anyone has to go tinkering with it and it’s not the CSO I will do it,” Kane said in a neutral tone. “You are right. We have no idea how to fix you if something goes wrong but I am just plain old flesh and bone. Medical can fix me with a wave of the wand or replace anything that is broken. I can also wear a suit that hopefully can shield out some or most the radiation. It will let me get right up on the thing and medical knows what to monitor on me to see when things are going wrong.
Also if you get hurt or into trouble, you would need the chief engineer to fix you and right now we need him fixing the ship. He can’t devote himself to one crew member. I can take any old doctor to patch me up. Guess that means I might have just drawn the short straw.” Reading the reports from the bridge, Kalani monitored the probe entering the hangar bay.

Cori stiffened, trying to not look too offended. It was a question of how to handle this awkward situation. Kalani clearly didn’t know or understand, but that was the case for most of the crew. Perhaps this was one of those opportunities to start fixing the situation. “You can’t fix me, Ensign. I’m a sentient being, just with unusual… parameters. I might not be able to die exactly like you but I can cease to exist. And not even Commander Alindor can fix that.” Whew! She even managed to say his name neutrally, too. She was quite proud of herself.

=/\=Sir, Permission to head to the shuttle bay to monitor the probe with you=/\= Kalani asked her boss over the comm lines.

While they waited for Graham to respond, Dalton kept an eye on the readings.

It was apparent that the bridge was able to finally find the correct frequency for the force field around the probe as the leaking of the radiation tapered off. It could now be studied if the residual radiation was neutralized in the bay or protective suits were worn.
