Sinclair laughed. “As if I’m gonna tell the lead cop on the ship that I committed a homicide!” and he laughed again. “But no, no stabbings recently. Besides… the carpet is new and I don’t wanna get it dirty.” he added with a grin.

Restlessness made her stand up again and pace. Realizing her fidgeting, she paused at the window. “I think you have a better view than my office.” She laughed but it was strained.

She turned back to him, her hands clapped behind her back almost at parade rest. “I believe you have a recreational holo program we have yet to enjoy, don’t you? I apologise for not asking sooner. Things have been crazy with quarterly evals and shift changes. NE Marsh is expecting his first kid and had become nearly useless as a shift leader. So I’ve sent him to the armory and sent Parker to replace him. It shuffled a couple mentorships around, but they need to learn from more than one person, yes? ” It was a rambled off excuse. ” But I think we should be settled enough to enjoy at least one shift in relative peace. If you still desire, of course. If you’re busy, I understand.”

Sinclair let out a loud “Ha!” and stood up quickly… very quickly for a man his size and build. “I had completely forgotten! Smashing idea, Chief. And I just finished up my last evaluation, so I am free for the next few hours. Let’s do this! I just have to go by my quarters and change.”

Sha startled, something that made her realize just how far she has stretched herself. “I… ummm… I didn’t mean it had to be this second. I mean, I don’t want to intrude on your day.” Part of her was screaming at her lips to shut up, the other part was wondering if this was such a good idea after all.

As he stepped towards her and mentioned needing to change, she nodded. “All right… I guess I can’t argue with the Doc.” She smiled and nodded towards the door. “Please, after you…”

Sinclair led her quickly through the corridors to his quarters. “You can come in or wait out here, whatever is most comfortable. But be warned, place is a mess.” he said with a grin as the door slid open.

The Counselor’s quarters were laid out the same as most of the Senior Officer’s, but that is where the similarities ended. Decorated more like a Scottish pub or some kind of clubhouse, there was an air of jovial national pride inherent in everything. A Scottish flag hung above the large windows, and a dartboard was on one wall. Small items and knick-knacks were scattered around the room, but what was most impressive were the ships models. There had to be more than four or five dozen all around the room, some in transparent cases, some on shelves, some sitting on various surfaces. Ships of all kinds and classes were represented, and each had a signature on some part of it. Contrary to what Royal had said, the place was clean and well kept.

The big man moved to the bedroom and said “Gimme a sec to change.” and pulled off his shirt as the door slid closed behind him. In that small time frame, a series of faint crisscrossed scars could be seen on the well-muscled back.

She followed him and smiled. “I’ll come in. You should see my quarters, or perhaps not,” she laughed as she entered his rooms and glanced around. She was impressed with the room, in all actuality. He had sincerely ‘settled in’ in a way she had not, despite having been aboard much longer than he. She glanced back as he spoke up and and appreciative smile at his physique touched her lips even as she saw the slashing of scars before he disappeared from sight.

While he was changing, she went to one of the shelves and glanced at the collection of ships there. Absently she ran a finger lightly over one of the sails. The material was amazingly sturdy, yet soft and supple at the same time. “You’re right,” she called back so he could hear. “This place is atrocious! I’m surprised you haven’t been reprimanded for it.” She laughed as she said it. Her own quarters were certainly not worthy of visitors at this time. There were books and padds scattered on the coffee table and the eating table was covered in work items, breakfast dishes and most likely a top or bottom from her changing out of sleep wear. She tended to treat her entire quarters as a single room and forget, sometimes to her own detriment, that others may enter and see her strewn chaos. “I don’t know how you can live like this.” She shook her head, back to his room as she lost herself a moment in the intricate scale of the vessels and tried to read the writings, printings and signatures on the ones before her.

“That’s a old Earth Dutch Schooner. Used primarily for trade and transport in the mid to late 18th century.” he said, suddenly behind her. For a large man, he moved quite gracefully… and quietly, apparently.

“Odd that you would find one of the only sail vessels.” he added with a grin. Now dressed in loose fitting clothes with gray pants and paler gray top. “Most of these are ships my family worked on back home in the shipyards. They are signed by the foreman of each construction. But that one -” and he pointed at the sailing vessel her eye had found, “- that one my great-grandfather made. He made each piece by hand. No machines. Hand carved each spar, each cross beam, each plank.”
