Sinclair looked at her closely for a long while and then said “I will. Now, don’t get all wound up… I am not proposing anything romantic.” and then he smiled a broad and warm smile. “I know… I know… you’re shattered. All of this -” and he gestured broadly to himself with both hands, ” - at your fingertips and you can’t do anything.” and he laughed out loud. “But what I would like to be… is your friend. And this isn’t newly minted shrink extraordinaire Doctor Sinclair talking. This is just plain ol’ Royal.” and he held out his hand, palm up, on the table. “So? Will you be my friend? I know I sure as hell could use one.”

Cori adopted a lopsided smirk. “Oh, I don’t know, that could be a big ask,” she teased. Resting her arm on the table, she scrutinized the psychologist. “But, Doctor Sinclair, I would consider it a privilege. I mean, you already have an idea about all the baggage and if that hasn’t scared you away yet, then I’m not sure if anything will.”

A new drink appeared before her and Cori wrapped her fingers around it.

“Nope, nothing. We Scots are a stubborn people. Don’t like to admit defeat. Just ask the English.” and he laughed. He then took his glass and raised it to her and said “A toast! To new friends. May we both last to be old ones, too.”

Grinning, she lifted her drink. “Cheers to that indeed!” she said before taking a drink. Her holographic drink was making her holographic body warm and tingly. Just as she wanted. Her cheeks were now slightly flushed, and while she could instantly remove her ‘tipsiness’, she was enjoying the simulated state that was exactly as she remembered it being. Warm, relaxed, at ease.

Propping her elbow on the table and cupping her chin in her hand, she smiled. “So, what does it take to make you go running for the hills?”

Sinclair leaned back and smiled as he looked up at the ceiling. “Honestly? I have no idea. I mean, I’m sure I’m scared of something.” and his gaze came down and settled on Corinne. “I just haven’t found out what that is. Is that weird?” he asked with a laugh.

Sinclair, CNS

Cori grinned slightly and considered him for a moment before she shook her head. “No, I don’t think so. If I hadn’t kept losing family I think I’d probably not know myself. Ca’t be that strange a thing, can it? After all, I’m not the psychologist,” she said grinning more before sipping her drink.
