The crew of the science labs had not been busy for the past week. Diplomatic preparations consumed everyone’s time, and scientists grew bored. As the ship warped towards its destination, something finally happened. Space began to disappear.

Lights flashed on the console, drawing Cori out of her reverie. She frowned at the readings. “That’s… weird,” she murmured. Moving to another, she double checked it, the shape of her mobile emitter reflected in the screen. Reaching out into the computer (though she didn’t have the same access as she did when ‘in the system’ as SARAH), Dalton felt a shiver creep down her holographic body. There was nothing there, like she has lost her access. It entirely creeped her out. =/\=Science Lab 1 to Bridge,=/\= she called, wondering if they were getting the same reading up there as she was.

Comms were not currently not functioning at the combadge level. Secondary computer checks would confirm a lack of any stellar phenomena.

Her brow furrowed deeper and Corinne knew that this was not good. “Computer, ship’s status report.” She was mentally going through a check list in her mind before taking the next logical step.

=Ship’s onboard computer function IS SEVERELY compro- compromised.=

Yeah, no $!@%, Corinne thought to herself, resisting an eye roll. But she could feel it, in that special way that only she, connected as she was to the computer, could understand. Something fundamentally had shifted and it was more than a little frightening. She knew she had a decent power cell life on her mobile emitter, but if it ran out… oh hell, what if it did? What would happen to her? If she couldn’t access the system, then what?

“Okay, stay calm Dalton. You’re a scientist. Work through the variables and establish a hypothesis,” she said softly to herself. With the comms down, they needed to communicate with the rest of the ship and she needed more information. Moving to the door, she approached it cautiously, not knowing what automatic systems were still operating properly.

Kalani walked towards the science labs. Lunch had been a nice respite from the boredom in the science labs over the past week. Her vivarium could only hold her attention so long however since the goal was to create a perfect ecosystem from nothing, long periods of equilibrium were a good thing. Maybe she would have to talk to Jarred and the Captian again about knocking the floor out of the storage room below and filling it with water. Life came from the sea so trying to create a mini would without one eliminated essential data. Tapping her comm badge, Kalani brought up the one topic Jarred avoided like the plague. =/\=Okay so I really need you to find a way to have the deck support 99,000‬ pounds of water give or take the coral and plant life. I need a body of water to continue the climatology experiment.=/\= Kalani paused not hearing an ‘oh hell no’ or annoyed groan from the science chief. =/\=Jarred don’t ignore me=/\= she paused still getting the silent treatment. =/\= Fine don’t say anything but we are going to talk about this tonight.=/\= Kalani tapped her badge again slightly furious that Jarred was acting so childish. The least he could do was talk to her. Walking towards the science lab door she decided to block this from her mind and focus on something else.

Systems being operated by Lt Dalton functioned normally.

As the door to the lab opened, light spilled into the dim hallway and Cori took a tentative step into the doorway so the door wouldn’t close on her. Odd.

Taking in the hallway, Corinne frowned as she saw Kalani there. “Ensign Kane,” she said, hoping to draw the woman’s attention.

“Hey Corrie,” Kalani said seeing the woman exit the lab. “What’s going on,” she replied seeing the woman’s expression.

“Ship emergency. Comms are down and I can’t reach the bridge.” It was telling when even the being connected to the computer couldn’t even make contact. “Something weird happened, but I’m going to need help sorting it out. I want to see if I can reach the bridge but I want to know what we’re up against first.” She said this with utter professionalism, since they worked together. Was it still weird to know that Jarred and Kalani had a life together? Definitely. Did it matter in this instant? Not one bit.

Kalani slapped her comm badge several times in succession before pulling out her personal communicator. Pressing a button to delete the messages that still said sending she rolled her eyes. “Yeah, none of the systems seem to be working. Glad to know Jarred wasn’t doing the fiance thing though and just ignoring me though,” she said shoving the device in her pocket. “Well the turbo was working a few minutes ago so we should be able to just walk up there unless you have a different idea,” she looked up and down the hall not sure what to do either.

“The computer is severely compromised. Come back in the lab. We at least have lights in here,” Cori said, her face set in a state of puzzlement as she tried to ignore her fear. “Once we establish a few things we can attempt to go elsewhere. But I’m worried that if we just leave we’ll get stuck somewhere where we have even less access than we do now, that we’ll have bigger problems than just the comms. We don’t even know if other decks still have normal atmosphere and gravity,” she said as she moved back itno the safety of the lab.

“They did when I came down. I say we head to engineering. I mean they are the best to fix this situation and probably know more than we do. Besides if you are worried about the turbos we can use the Jeffries tubes to get between floors,” she said in a chipper tone. “Think of like an adventure. Let’s go,” she gestured to the door.
