She was still a bit rattled from her check in with the Security Chief, but she pulled it together by the time she located the Captain in his office. She tugged down the edges of her uniform, bit back a slight wince and raised her hand to pass her fingers over the chime.

Something told her this wasn’t going to be an easy meeting, either. She hated secrets.

((sorry, forgot she was checking in during the current time period))

OOC: Perfectly fine, we can set this just after the entry of the main sim. At some point after the Bridge scene we will assume you have a moment to check in, I’m not terribly fussed or too pedantic about the exact moment, we will make it work.

“Enter,” came the voice of the Captain from the other side of the door, just before they slid open to reveal the Captain standing looking out the view port at the nothing beyond it.

Sha entered and smiled. “Permission to come aboard, Captain?” Her smile, altered by the ridges noting her as being part Klingon, gave her more of a glaring look than a soft feminine smile. She had grow used to it over the last year or so and managed it relatively easy now. “You do realize you didn’t have to get so dramatic with my welcome party,” she nodded to the bridge. “How are you, Sir?” She stepped in the rest of the way and started to close the distance between them. The final question being less formal and more personal in inflection.

“What better party than a survival room? Just, on a dimensional scale it seems.” Dante turned from the window and looked at Sha, smiling slightly, showing the clear concern he held for the ship and their situation. “I would be better if my ship was where I could see the stars, Sha, I can tell you that much. I trust you are well, yourself? When I signed the papers confirming your reassignment to the Saracen I wasn’t sure if I was getting my Officer back in the same condition I let her go.”

Captain Knight, CO

Sha smiled at the Captain. Her respect for him ran deeper than merely him being her superior. But she had never been brave enough to take that step that crossed the line. Instead, she just hoped to be a friend to the man in one of the most isolated positions on the ship. “I miss the stars as well. A bit more offputting that I would have thought.” A slight shiver went thru her before she continued. “I can’t lie, Sir… I’m not in the same condition. It’s what I wanted to tell you about. While I am sure you got more infor than even Mr. Sinclair, I have no doubt the redactions are bordering on the ridiculous. All I can assure you is I am fit for duty and won’t fail you if I have anything to say about it. I may not be you Security Chief anymore, but it doesn’t lesson my commitment to the ship or you.”

“If you have enough self awareness to make that statement and commitment, then you are still the Officer I remember,” Dante said and turned back to the window. “That’s one thing you have going for you, Lieutenant. That Klingon stubbornness and warrior spirit. We might need that sooner rather than later.”

Sha let out the proverbial breath she had been holding. It was a relief that he wasn’t going to insist on a more formal eval of her. Last thing she wanted was to be on limited duty or completely off the roster right after returning.

The woman moved up to stand beside him, about an arm’s length away. Her hands clasped behind her back as she looked out the window. “Hard to even know where to look. Your eyes want to focus on something… but there’s nothing there.” She turned to him, not even realizing she was deflecting her own conversation and changing the subject. “How are you holding up?” The edges of her lip curled up, “Is my Captain still in the same shape I left him?” She was teasing him, hoping to lighten the mood.

“Hardly,” Dante smirked for an instant. “I have a wife who is the CMO and an infant who in reality gives the orders around here. You are being led by a man that is told he needs to eat more vegetables and stress less, and who sleeps about half the time he should because he’s awake early to make sure his wife gets the sleep, breakfast and coffee she needs, and spend some time with my son before I am dragged away for the day then stays up late catching up on reports. I still wouldn’t change a thing about it.”

Captain Knight, CO

Sha laughed. “Seems family life suits you. And I’ll make you a deal. I’ll start seeing to it you eat, if you will adjust the roster just for a couple days, to see to your family once we are out of the …” she sighed and shook her head. “Whatever this is.” She turned to him then and took in his profile a moment. “You need to spend time with your family without the stress of being a couple decks away. I know you can’t take time off, but go check on them. We have the bridge. Go give them a hug and remind yourself that while there may be ‘nothing’ out there, it’s all still inside here.”

She wasn’t sure where the compassion for him was coming from, other than it had always been there. She was grateful he had a family and didn’t want him to become like so many other Captains who become more like visiting Uncles rather than father and husband.

“Oh you have no need to worry about that,” Dante smiled. “Nat and I have wanted a family for a long time, it was just never possible for a number of reasons until now. The important thing right now, is getting us all out of here so that we can all see and hug our families again. In that respect I am one of the lucky ones, Sha. I’ll be able to go back to my family every night, lunch. Most of the crew on the Saracen don’t get that luxury and will be wondering if they will ever see them again, at all. They are who I am responsible for, and in good conscience I can’t go back to my quarters at night unless I know I have done my damnedest to get my crew back to their families. I suspect the replicators coffee rations will become strained over the next few days or so. So, what I will say, is that if Nat does limit my coffee intake, I’m going to use your Replicator authority.” He grinned wickedly and raised an eyebrow, “A caffeinated Captain is a happy Captain, right?”

Captain Knight, CO

Sha laughed. “I promise I’ll accidentally leave as many cups of coffee laying around that you need, Captain. And we’ll get out of this … thing. I have faith in the crew and in you.” She cocked her head and looked at him after a moment’s pause. “How is Sinclair doing as Security Chief? I think he was a good choice. Don’t get me wrong. I’m just curious what you think of him.”
