Still feeling pleasantly surprised having not long left the presence of the operations crewman who had shown Ella to her room. The young Elasian now found herself clutching to an assignment order in the form of the all too familiar personal access display unit or more commonly referred to as ‘PaDD’. She was certainly beginning to fill with some aspect of dread and anxiety. The thought of her all too annoyingly abundant Elasian heritage surfacing its ugly head was a constant threat to her current cool demeanor as she passed what she noticed to be the armory on deck seven, it made sense that the chief of security’s office would be so close to where they would work.

A few more steps and further along the corridor she finally reached her destination. “Get it together Ella.” She chided herself, noticing her heart rate had picked up again for the second time since boarding the ship. She had spent the journey to her new home reading up on the crew, Lieutenant Commander Royal Sinclair was a Human Male. ‘Great’ she had thought at the time with a heavy hint of sarcasm. Ella had never been very good at dealing with Human men, though she did think his name was rather interesting. He had only served on one ship before now which was the USS Challenger where he promoted relatively quickly which meant to Ella one of two things he was either really good at his job or a complete suck-up. She’d hold judgment… for now.

Time for inner thoughts and feelings were cut short however when all too quickly she was pressing the door chime to his office.

“Come” came a heavily accented voice and the door slid open. The office was surprising for most entering it for the first time. Where most Security Chiefs had trophies and medals and the odd antique weapon on display, Sinclair’s office was more… friendly. Two tall, wooden bookcases with glass doors on each shelf flanked the desk on the far wall from the door. There were two seats facing the desk, but between them and the door were two small couches flanking a low table between them. On the table was a small bowl of multicolored stones that shone with a low internal luminescence. Low shelves surrounded the room, on which set a few models of ships, both star ships and old Earth sailing vessels. A tattered and worn flag, light blue with a large white ‘X’ stretching from corner to corner was mounted under glass and hung high on the left wall.

Seated behind the desk was a large… very large human man. He was well muscled and very fit looking. He had short cropped blonde hair, more akin to a Marine than a Fleet officer, and when he looked up his eyes were a piercing blue. He smiled a warm smile and stood up… and up… and up… reaching a height of almost seven feet.

“You must be Ensign Lokaa. Welcome. Please… come in. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you. I’m Lieutenant Commander Sinclair. But I dont mind if you just call me ‘Chief’. Saves time.” and he chuckled slightly and winked. He gestured to one of the chairs before the desk and then took his seat.

Ella stepped into the room and watched as the Lieutenant Commander grew in size and stature. He would certainly dwarf any male she knew back on Elas and most likely win in any combat against them too, he radiated strength. She was beginning to see why he might have promoted quickly, he just ate his superiors. Finding amusement in at her own thoughts she took the seat he had indicated and sat down. “Thank you, I hope I live up to your expectations sir, I mean chief.” Why did Humans like to change their rank or role it made it confusing to remember.

“I have no reason to expect otherwise.” he said in heavily accented Scottish brogue. “But now that you are here, why don’t you tell me a bit about yourself. Outside of your record, I mean. What kind of hobbies you have, what you like to do in your off time… that sort of thing.”

His demeanor was not typical for a Security Chief. The brashness and aggression typical of those in the position was replaced with a calm serenity and unspoken self-assurance born of confidence, not arrogance.
