Leaning back in his chair, Dante closed his eyes for a minute. The paperwork from the attack on Aldebaran and the subsequent destruction of the Son’a ship had been nothing short of a mountain load. Meetings with the Fleet Commanders and the stations Strategic Operations Chief had been many as they tried to ascertain what they could about potential further issues from the Son’a. All to little avail they simply needed more information.

After a moment he opened his eyes and adjusted the coffee cup sitting across from him. Steaming and hot, it was just how Natasha liked it. Knowing she would be here any moment, he closed his eyes and waited with the door unlocked. She knew, and always did unless he let her know otherwise, to simply come in when he left the door unlocked like that.

Natasha palmed the door controls and they slide open effortlessly. Dante was behind his desk with his eyes closed, slightly reclined in his seat, breathing softly. In the past, she would have been able to tell if her husband was resting his eyes or snatching a quick few zzz’s. Since the birth of their son, Dante slept like a cadet at the academy. Whenever he could grab ten minutes, he used it to power nap. Tapping the code into the door so that no one would enter, Natasha silently moved up to his desk. Coming around she sat in his lap laying her head on his chest so that her feet hung over the edge of the chair. It had been so long since they had a minute like this. If it wasn’t the ship or Oscar dominating their time, Bruce was there wagging his tail with his red ball in his mouth. Sighing deeply she melted into his body. “You have no idea how much I love you. Things are so crazy lately. I would never give up what we have but god I miss these small moments,” Natasha said in a voice soft enough to hear but not loud enough to wake him if he was sleeping.

Dante had called her to his office for an official meeting but when you were literally sleeping with the boss every night, getting one on one time with him wasn’t a huge problem.

He let the weight of her press into his chest, letting the feeling of her touch bring memories of more intimate moments, private moments to the surface of his thoughts, but more than that let the feeling of her be with him a few moments longer. They lived together of course, but the moments Dante was away from Natasha he still missed her. Even more when work and life was simply crazy. Lately it seemed like they passed each other like ships in the night. One went to bed while the other rose to attend their duties and somewhere, for just a moment in their day they would catch up. It never felt like enough for Dante with Natasha, it never had. He always wanted to spend time with her when he could but sometimes he had to appreciate the moments they did have like they were a precious gem in their lives.

Natasha let out a deep contented sigh. As new parents and being in command positions, quiet moments were hard to come by. Natasha and Dante napped a lot with Oscar but it was not like the lazy afternoons when they were nobody’s. “Remember when we used to spend all weekend in bed doing one of two things. Then we would return to work exhausted,” she let out a laugh. “They say all things come back around. Never thought I could be this tired at work not after visiting Risa was possible,” she let out a small laugh nuzzling deeper into his embrace. “God I love those days…and you.”

He moved his hand to the small of her back and let it rest their, holding her against him as he inhaled and smiled. Lilac and gooseberries, it was a scent that was significant for a number of reasons to them but also rare enough that it wasn’t common for other women to wear it. “I might not know how much you love me, but I still love hearing you say it because the more you say it, the more I know how much I love you Tasia.” Dante’s voice was soft, he hadn’t been sleeping but even without opening his eyes he knew her touch, her voice and her scent. Every time he closed his eyes, she was there with him.

“I did call you in for an actual meeting though, not just a quick hug and hows your day,” Dante opened his eyes and smirked at her gently. “How is your day anyway? Mine just got better.”

Captain Knight, CO

“Oh I know a way in fifteen minutes you can make it stellar,” she pressed her lips to his slowly and delicately. Her kiss was not meant to ignite a passion but more to stoke the smoldering embers underneath. They knew every action and how to react to each other after all their years together but Natasha also knew how to mix it up and keep Dante guessing. Normally this involved outfit changes and lighting but she was a doctor and used to working on the spot.

He returned her kiss softly, letting his hands move from wrapping around her back to gently rubbing her shoulders. It was a kiss that promised more, later, but left nothing off the table in letting Natasha know how much he wanted to be in contact with her at that moment.

“So should we mime out the message,” she moved her lips to his ear whispering gently. “I think so far I got Natasha you are amazing but I am a bit fuzzy on the rest.” Trying to make it hard for him she slowly traced the length of his neck with her fingertips.

“Then you need to pay more attention,” he smirked, “I thought it was pretty clear what the rest is going to be.”

“No I know what it is going to be but I am still wearing clothes which is a record I think even after having Oscar,” she pulled at his collar with a finger and a wink. “You know I am not a feminist but if you want me to be more assertive I can play Captain Knight,” she toyed with the zipper slowly taking it down click by click. Her eyes held the sultry look that was so prominent in their college years. Curling her tongue tip up she rested on her top lip.

Reaching up to the hand she had at his neck he took it in his own, and pulled it away from him. “Okay stop now,” he told her and pulled his head back a little while he dropped his legs off the table, his arm holding her steady as he adjusted in his seat. It was very much the last thing he wanted to do, but if he let her continue then the meeting was going to take a turn that might be considered abuse of his Captain’s authority in some areas, and the thought made him smirk again.

Natasha flowed with the motions but did not help Dante at all. “Come on Daaaaaahhhhn taaayyy,” she drew out the words with a slight pout.

“You know there is actually something I need to talk to you about that is ship business, unless you would rather talk about it tonight instead of that other thing I just promised you?” Raising one eyebrow, Dante pretended to give her the choice. “I know which one I would prefer, once I get home this uniform is coming off one way or another.”

Captain Knight, CO

“Fine” she stood up and move around his desk to the other side, “but if we are going to make this official I have to sit over her....and I should start.” Slumping back in her seat she let out a small moan crossing her hands over her chest. Her eyes held a slightly challenging look which Dante immediately recognized. The first time he had seen it was when Herman Hornsby told Cadet Wildcat she would not be allowed to register for advanced hand to hand classes. It was truly the sole reason she wanted to take the class was to hang out with Dante but that was not the point. The point was Nat wanted to be in the class and went to the Dean over it. The next time was when Dante made the unfortunate mistake of thinking her medical midterms were more important than being selected for a position on his away team. Times fifteen to one hundred had various themes but all ended with her in a chair, slumped with her hands over her chest.

He was about to speak, but the look in her eye, her arms crossed across her chest caught his attention. It was her I’m sulking pose that she adopted when she either didn’t get her way, or a distraction that she tried to pull failed. Dante paused slightly and looked at her, raising his eyebrow slightly. Had her play for him a moment before been just a distraction from some other issue she didn’t want to talk about? Clearly there was an element here that he had missed and now she was pulling out her second to last tactic, the stubborn.

“I know you are going to go on some I am the Captain Natasha speech but what is right is right Dante. That is why I altered the inventory for Scott.” Natasha crossed her legs and started to swing her foot. This was the last piece of her mannerisms showing Dante that Natasha was fully committed to her course of action. “And…and,” she pointed a finger at Dante from across the table, “if you really think about it how can you say helping women and children is a bad thing. I mean you have a son. You have Oscar and you would want him in that situation?”

Natasha Knight CMO

Dante didn’t speak for a moment, just looked at her as if she had a point. Just for a moment. “Natasha what the devil are you talking about? I don’t know anything about some altered inventory or about that Scott woman you had me transfer to the ship after Oscar was born.” Leaning forwards he covered his face in his hands and rubbed his eyes.

Natasha’s face took on a hint of oh no where here eyes widened slightly and she held her breath for a split second. It was the look of someone who went too far in a topic that should not be broached. Quickly recovering, she rolled her eyes in the classic wife dismissive gesture. “I said I need to fill in the missing inventory as in restock. Ally is a pediatrician. With Lizzie and Oscar and the other kids on board having a pediatrician is not a bad thing…because we have a son,” Nat hugged the lie so tightly it could have asphyxiated if it were a living breathing creature. Hopefully rearranging a few syntacical elements of her previous assessment combined with Dante’s exhaustion would blow the event over. “Baby I do love you and you look so exhausted,” she added in a sweet and loving tone. Yes, she was attempting to make Dante think he was crazy hearing things wrong to get her way yet that is what wives did from time to time.

“Do I really want to know what you are talking about? Scrap that, right now I don’t care, we can talk about it later tonight and you can explain to me, in detail, what the heck you are up to and why. Tasia I have something else entirely to talk about, nothing to do with Scott or children.” Opening his drawer, he took out a small box and then stood up and walked around the desk coming to a stop beside Natasha’s chair and then half sat/leaned on the surface beside her.

“You have been a Doctor for years, a senior doctor and now the CMO on my ship. You were supposed to be the CMO on the Broadsword before we got redirected here but, this took a wee while to follow. “

“You said wee,” she blushed slightly getting a devilish smile. On top of the boot touching in the academy, words like wee and dodgywere almost a kin to your hot and I love you but in code. She wasn’t sure if Dante was trying to flirt or be serious but if he was being serious he should not have used the adjective wee.

“You deserve it though, Starfleet Command granted the promotion so that you can be all nice and shiny next time we head out.” Grinning, Dante opened the box and turned it to face her, inside was the next pip that would bump her up a level. “Congratulations, Lieutenant Commander. Want me to pin it on you?”

Captain Knight, CO

Natasha instantly became more serious as she looked at the pips in the box. She swallowed taking a second to gather her thoughts. Taking the pips from his hand she set them on the table next to him. “You know what makes this most special? The fact you get to promote me.”

Lt. Natasha Knight.

“I know,” he grinned at her, “it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I was never able to be there at your promotion to Lieutenant, things just got in the way, but I can do this.” His grin changed to a soft smile and he picked up the pips she had set beside him.

“I think we should have a special dinner tonight as well, I’ll arrange it, with Oscars supervision of course.” He leaned down closer towards her and raised the pins to her collar, letting his fingers brush her cheek as he did. It only took a moment, and then he leaned back again.

“They suit you love, congratulations, Lieutenant Commander Natasha Knight.” Reaching for her, he took her hand in his.
