Sim Preview - What We Fight For

LOCATION: The Planet of Drixov

The ground shook. The cave walls rattled. Dust and bits of rocks came raining down from above.

The three men huddled together in the center of the cavern, covering their heads. Nearby a portable flood light fixture toppled over, crashing to the ground, plunging them into the dim light left from the entrance to the cavern.

“Is there another way out of here?” One of the men asked frantically, looking around.

“No,” One of the other men said. “We need to get back to the tunnel.”

They made their way to their feet, despite the sounds of falling rock and the trembling of the earth beneath them. As they made their way to the opening in the cavern, a loud tremor hit, causing several large boulder size rocks to come crashing down from above. The first man let out a scream as a rock hit him on the back, sending him to the ground, pinned down by the rock on top of him.

The other two men went to his aid, but then man was no longer moving, or making any sound. He was not breathing.

“Come on,” One man said to the other, grabbing his arm and dragging him away from their comrade.

As they made their way to the entrance of the cavern, they were greeted with several beams of light, shining directly at them, in their eyes. One man put up a hand, shielding his eyesight. “Hello?” He called out.

There were flashes of light as energy beams shot both men in the chest. They both collapsed on the ground, their bodies slipping into unconsciousness. Just before they passed out they saw shadowy figures looming over them, holding weapons pointed at them, marring the otherwise beauty and grace of those holding the weapons.

A woman stepped forward. She had long, flowing hair of a light pink, contrasted by her dark ebony skin. Her eyes were a piercing ice blue, and she moved as though she were floating through the air. She approached the two men now laid on the ground before them. Raising one long leg, she put her heeled boot on top of the one man’s chest.

“At last, Drixov is ours.” She said proudly.

NINE MONTHS LATER

“Is it ready for launch?” She cried out, throwing her long pink hair across her shoulder as she ran her fingers across the console in front of her.

“Yes, Lonella,” The other woman replied, giving a stern nod.

“Launch on my mark,” Lonella said, concentrating on her console. “Three, two, one.... Mark.”

“Launch commenced,” The other woman said, tapping a few keys on her own console.

“What’s the status of the perimeter forcefields?” Lonella asked.

“Forcefields holding at 89 percent,” The other woman announced.

Lonella stood, marching over to a cabinet and retrieving a weapon. “Reroute all available power to the defenses. We cannot let them take Drixov. The fate of our people depends on it.” She powered on her weapon. “Monitor the beacon. Alert me the moment we have any response to our signal.”

The other woman gave a curt nod, and turned back to her console.

Standing tall, Lonella made her way out of the command center, down the corridor. As she passed the launch bay, she heard the sounds of engines running, ships launching, commands being called out over the comms.

They had sacrificed so much to get here, and they would do anything it took to remain. Lonella had faith that her people would prevail.
