Hannah sighed. “Unfortunately the UT doesn’t work for visual languages. You would need to have a camera built in and you would have to be facing the signer.” She has obviously put a lot of thought into it, but shrugs. It is not practical. So she learned to speak Federation standard and got her implants.

“I think you would love meeting a Kalaran,” Sathut reflected. “Aliens can be so fascinating at times. The Kalarans have a visual language composed of light pulses and colour changes on their heads,” here he lifted his hand and traced a path from his nose up to his forehead and over his eyes. “Bioluminescent strips. But I digress, we are not here to speak of them. How have you been feeling recently? Is there anything you would like to discuss?”

Hannah took the time to think about his question. “I guess I’m feeling homesick. Having gone through the rift (OOC: I have no idea if we are back through it or not, but either way) I realized I couldn’t exactly write to my family. I mean they wouldn’t get it. I wouldn’t be able to tell them I’m okay, or know how they are doing. I wasn’t feeling like that when I boarded. I met the XO in the lounge earlier, and he was kind enough to point out which star was the Catawban sun, but it wasn’t really my sun was it?”

OOC: thanks

“Perhaps. Would it help you to know that at least your people are alive in this universe? As far as Galdori Intelligence goes, the Raka people do not exist in the Mirror universe. We are… less secretive about things than the Federation, and several fascinating papers have been shared in the academic and wider community about parallel universes, the psychology of peoples with such varying histories… Ah, I’m rambling again,” he chuckled. It was partially intentional, helping the patient get more comfortable in the conversation by giving small anecdotes that apply to their comments. “And I am certain we will be returned to federation space soon enough. They don’t like it when we stick around here too long.. If you are up to it, you can write a letter to your family in anticipation of our return.”

Hannah shook her head. “No. I mean I’m glad they are alive, but if this is a mirror universe, they would be the opposite of who I know them to be. Instead of kind and caring they, by theory, are cruel and uncaring. So they aren’t really my people. And if it’s a parallel universe and they are somewhat similar, they still aren’t my people, just genetic similarities. We don’t have the same shared history. They aren’t people I really know.” Hannah shrugs. They aren’t her family and the likelihood that she would be united with them was slim. “I will of course continue to write to parents and as soon as we return I will send them. You asked how I was doing and it’s a new sensation to me. I’ve never been homesick. I was to eager to go out and explore, and there was always shore leave. But I wanted to answer your question honestly.”

“No, I understand,” Sathut said with a small nod. “That’s a reasonable way to be feeling right now. Well. I don’t see any reason not to allow you to serve. Your head is officially checked.”
