SNIP

The distress signal continued to transmit the message, but the buoy appeared to be moving. Based on the trajectory of its flight path it was headed away from the coordinates matching the planet Drixov.

-GM SEMAJ

“The probe seems to be moving away from Drixov… perhaps it was launched from there to request aid.”

Graham

“Is there any indication of how long ago that might have been? How long would it have taken to get here at its current speed?” Dante asked the CSO, then addressed the Helm. “Change course to intercept the probe, let’s take a quick look at it to see if we can get any more information before flying blind into whatever the situation is on Drixov.”

Making the adjustments, the Helm changed course from Drixov to intercept the probe.

Captain Knight, CO

Sinclair looked at the Captain and said “Sir, we could send a shuttle to intercept the probe while the ship continued on to the planet. Two birds approach and such. If someone there does need help, won’t be doing them any favors to delay.”

Sinclair, CoS

“Doing the math.”

Graham

According to the calculations, the probe had been traveling for about 3 days at its current speed.

“About three days at current speed,” Graham reported. “Its a negligible distance.” For the Saracen.

=^=LT Cmdr Scholz this is sickbay. We will have those hypos ready for you. I would also suggest rebreathers to regulate the O2 intake incase something in the environment reacts badly with the hypos. I also suggest fire suppression suits since O2 rich atmospheres are very volatile. Sickbay out.=^=
Lt. jg Asimina

“Wonderful, this keeps getting better,” Dante muttered, a raised eyebrow to Scholz. “We’ll continue to the probe first, then the planet.” Dante said, turning to Sinclair. “I’d prefer not to put the Saracen into a situation we could go in better prepared for against people we know nothing about. We just need to get close enough for a decent scan of the probe, then adjust course back to the planet.”

Captain Knight

As the ship traveled to the probe’s location, sensors detected another vessel on an intercept course for the probe as well. It was a much smaller ship, maybe a fighter of some sort, and it appeared they would reach the probe first. Initial long range scans did not match the ships energy signature to anything in the database.

-GM SEMAJ

Sinclair scowled and relayed the information to the Center chair. “Unknown vessel inbound to the probe, Captain. Looks like they’ll beat us there. Want me to ready a tractor beam?”

Sinclair, CoS

Vadoma kept her eye on the ship and the probe in case anything came up she needed to get engineering involved in quickly. Maneuvering may be the helm’s job, but making sure things happened on his command, well that was engineering’s job.

Sathut slipped onto the bridge. The diminutive Counselor didn’t say anything as he got to his seat and sat in it.

Sathut, CNS

“Welcome to the Bridge Counselor,” Dante acknowledged Sathut, then shook his head at Sinclair slightly. “No Tractor Beam, as far as we know this Drixov is not Federation aligned and if this ship has malicious intentions towards the probe, that’s none of our business. Scan both if we are within range, get whatever information we can, and Hail that ship. Lets see if they can tell us anything more.

Captain Knight, CO

Graham

“On it, Sir,” Vadoma spoke up and began to scan the ship and the probe. She didn’t like the idea that the other ship could possibly destroy the probe before they had a chance to learn what it was doing out there, but she did as she was told and hoped, somehow, they would learn something worth discussing for days and weeks to come.

It didn’t look like there was anything Sathut could do to be useful, so he stayed quiet and observed.

Sathut, CNS

Just before they reached comms range of the two signals, the signal of the probe disappeared and the signal for the unknown vessel moved off in the opposite direction at a speed of warp 6. They now had a clear trail that the probe had left behind, leading to its origin, and also the trail of the unknown vessel.

-GM SEMAJ

From a nearby console, Colter spoke up. “Signal from the probe is gone, skipper, and the other vessel is heading away at warp 6. Most likely it was destroyed, but we do have a clear trail from both. . . .”

Colter (CIO)

“The probe is toast.” Graham said as he read the data. “Might be enough pieces to put something together if you want to spend the time. Or we can go right to the source.”

Graham
