“More likely an experiment gone wrong, if anything,” she said with a smirk. Giving a cursory scan of the case, Cori crouched down in front rather intrigued. The seals were nor more than gold stickers that were embossed with the words ‘Precious Cargo’. “I’m reading nothing but plant fibres and other small amounts of everyday substances. Nothing unusual.”

“Should I open it?” she said, casting a look at the Chief of Security.

~Corinne Dalton

“I would.” he replied and moved to stand next to her. “It’s yours. And it may bring happiness or pain. But either way, it will bring you some of you.”

Sinclair, CoS

She arched her brows at him, despite the smirk. “So the security chief isn’t worried about a random item in my quarters that I don’t know where it came from? Cool. Good to know…”

Though she hesitated, Cori did reach over and unclasp the locks on the case. Inside was a folded piece of paper with a printed message and when opened read:

I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I?

Cori’s mouth dropped open and she handed it to Royal. “Is this some sort of joke?”

~Corinne Dalton

Royal looked at the note and furrowed his brow for a moment and then snapped his fingers. “An echo.” and he looked at her for a moment. “And that means… what, exactly?”

Royal

Cori shrugged her arms out to the side. “Beats me if I know. Why would someone leave me a riddle? Who would do that?” She peered around her quarters suspiciously.

“I mean, royal, let’s be serious here for a moment. We’re talking someone who put something in the quarters of a being who is a part of the computer. That definitely takes skill.” For reasons she couldn’t yet explain, Cori was intrigued and, if she were a little honest, impressed as well.

Royal shrugged and said “Are you sure someone did that? It’s not something that was yours and mis-tagged, like the ballet slippers?” Royal knew the answer; he was, after all, for all intents and purposes speaking to the ship’s computer. But the question had to be asked.

Royal

She gave him a withering look. “Really?” Cori chuckled. “No, this isn’t mine and isn’t a part of anything logged that I can tell. If someone replicated the case, then I might be able to find out who, but I’d gave to go in the computer to do that.” Despite the oddity, and perhaps even the possible danger this riddle containing case posed, the scientist that she was was also very intrigued. She did like a good mystery, after all.

Royal tapped his comm badge. =/\= Sinclair to Security. Send me a list of every person to access these quarters since the transport of personal effects. And send me two scene technicians immediately. =/\= He looked at Cori and said “If there is someone who can sneak a crate past you, then we have a potential security issue. I’m gonna have the techs o over the case and the note and see if we can pick up any indication of who your riddle-leaving friend may be. Off the record, of course.” he added with a grin. He, too, liked a good mystery.
