After looking over the PaDD, Cori moved back to the sofa and sat with a puzzled expression on her face. “Well… I did die once and then I was declared MIA for three years, so… maybe not so unexpected.” She leaned forward and braced her arms on her thighs, looking at Royal. “So… someone sent it to me? Who though? Why? A riddle? she said with a confused laugh. “Sand?” She laughed more. The whole thing was rather hilarious to a degree. At least it didn’t feel suspicious anymore, or that someone had snuck into her quarters.
Her eyes went wide. “Wait, I have quarters now and if this arrived sometime, someone did bring it in her, didn’t they? It was’t in my stored belongings.”
Royal looked at the activity log and said “Yeah… Ops brought it in two days ago. Ens. N’til signed off.” At that moment the lead tech came over, a confused look on his face. “Uh, Chief? You’re gonna want to see this. Pulled it off the note.” Royal looked at the scanner and his brow furrowed. He looked at Cori, then back at the tech. “Run it again.” and the tech said “Ran it three times already. Same result.” and Royal nodded. “Take a sample of the contents of the bag and get them to Science for a full work up. Results sent straight to me and Lieutenant Dalton. Dismissed… and thank you.” As the two techs packed up and left the room, Royal looked at Cori.
“You know, there are times when I’m very glad you are a hologram.” and he took a seat next to her. “That means I wont have to pick you up if you pass out.” and he smiled at her. “DNA on the note. No match to any current or former crew… but there is a peripheral link to current crew DNA. Sibling from the paternal side. Human. Male.” and he took a deep breath.
Her brows knit together. “Okay, so someone linked to the crew. Got it,” she said, wondering why he was doing the whole long build-up.
“The match is to you, Cori. Apparently… you have a half-brother.”
Oh. That was why. Because she was what she was, Cori couldn’t miss anything, not hear something. Everything was recored through the computer, though it was a tiny bit different when she was used her mobile emitter. And yet, the part of her that still functioned like a Human just couldn’t quite process what he was saying. “But… how? I don’t understand…” she said quietly.
“Kip and Janey… no, that’s not right. They adopted me. Paternal. OH!” she exclaimed, shooting to her feet. She wore loudly before clamping a hand over her mouth.
