Alright, thought Mika, Here we are again. New ship, new job, new everything. In recent months, the ex-CMO had been aboard the USS Pacific, where she had gained the qualifications to switch jobs to her new and current position. A position she was quite excited for, but she found herself nearly as nervous now as she had been the first time she had boarded a starship, all the way back as a Cadet.

A lot had changed between now and then. Her Academy class had been split up and assigned all across Starfleet, and her own path had been quite the ride thus far. Mika normally liked to keep her hair short, but lately, it remained untrimmed, resting at her shoulders. Aboard the Pacific, Mika had switched out of physical medicine, needing a change in pace. And so far, that had been a good choice for her.

Steeling her nerves in the way she had become quite good at, she made her way through the new ship, stopping at the first officer’s officer. Then, she rang the buzzer and awaited an answer in nervous anticipation.

“Come in!” A loud voice called and the door opened, revealing the XO’s office and it occupant.

Mike stepped into the office, pausing just inside.

The office itself was sparsely decorated, almost spartan in it’s appearance, with just a desk, a couple of chairs, and little else. The only slightly personal touch was a battered looking hot plate that had been installed next to the replicator. An equally battered looking coffee pot sat on the hot plate and judging by the aroma that filled the room, there was fresh batch of coffee on the go.

The office was quite barren to Mika, but she understood some people preferred it that way. Her own offices she preferred to make a little more… personal.

The occupant of the office rose up from behind the desk to greet the new arrival, a tall well muscled figure with powerful looking broad shoulders and the dark skin, hair, and sculpted cheek bones that spoke of Polynesian heritage. In one hand she held a steaming mug of dark coffee, the other hand she extended to the Lieutenant.

“Welcome aboard Lieutenant, help yourself to some coffee, or whatever else you might like.”

Mika took Ngata’s hand and shook it. “Thank you, and no thank you,” she said. Normally she was a white chocolate mocha type of person but she was wired up enough on nerves alone. No need to add caffeine on top.

The handshake was firm and strong, but not in a ‘trying to re-arrange your finger bones’ kind of way. Becca nodded to the chair on the other side of her desk and took a seat herself.

“So, I’ve read your file, you come to us highly recommended and we’re glad to have you with us. Have you settled in to your quarters? Is there anything else you need?”

Becca Ngata. - XO

“Not quite, but I will be all settled before long,” Mika replied with a small smile. “Not at all, I just wanted to introduce myself, get all setup on the ship, you know?” She said as she took a seat in the indicated chair.

“I know exactly what you mean Lieutenant, I’m still getting settled in myself, although I’ve got the essentials all set up.”

The XO waved her coffee mug to indicate the hot plate and coffee jug. Now that Mika was a bit closer she would be able to read that the coffee mug had the words ‘Instant Executive Officer, Just Add Coffee.’ stencilled on the side.

“So, I assume you reviewed the crew files and ship specs on your way here, but what are your first impressions of the Saracen?”

Becca Ngata - XO
