Flaming auburn curls fell onto the woman’s back, she was sat at a table eating exotic looking food while staring perplexingly at a PaDD, in which she held with her left hand. The bajoran sighed, it was harder to adjust to her position than she had originally thought, though despite her struggle she really didn’t regret the decision. She wrote a few sentences down on the PaDD before putting it down to eat some of her food, still reading the data in front of her she couldn’t help but think of home when she ate the food, which reminded her so much of Bajor.

Akiyama Rey didn’t feel homesick, in fact it was the opposite; The Saracen felt more like home to her than Bajor ever did, the only thing she missed about Bajor was her family. Deep down she knew that she was meant for this role, otherwise it wouldn’t have been given to her.

All the time training as a Starfleet officer had prepared her for this job. It was her job to oversee the other departments, make sure everything and everyone was running smoothly, assist anywhere that she might be needed, and make the higher ups’ jobs a little easier. It was sort of obvious by her stance and the almost constant look on her face that she was meant to take control of something, organise something. It was in her nature. The perplexed look on her face quickly settled to determination, she had a fire in her soul that could only be explained as a burning passion to do her absolute best.

Still a recent addition to the crew herself, Mika had come to the mess hall for two reasons: One, the obvious, to eat. And two, to meet some of the crew that she had not yet met. She had chosen a place to sit, alongside a few of the ship’s Ensigns, but they had chosen that moment to be finished, and stood and left Mika with the table next to just one other officer with whom she was unfamiliar, a Bajoran. Most of the staff she had met had been quite friendly and welcoming - and yet, she found herself frequently lonely, wondering where her past friends were now. Mara, Sharah, Lt. Tija from the Challenger, Kaira, T’pera, lee, from the Pacific, and of course, Aili, too.

But she had to stop thinking about the past. It wasn’t helpful anyway, and if she was too focused on things that no longer mattered, she would have no time to focus on what was important, finding her place on this ship, now, both socially, and in her new role. It wasn’t a switch she had planned on, however she was quite excited. It had started with continuing education credit. She had begun taking classes in psychology and psychiatry, along other topics outside her specialty in emergency medicine. That had expanded into diplomatics, too, and as much as Mika loved being a doctor, she’d found herself wanting experience in other fields as well. She chose to keep her medical license valid, but inactive, and pursue a new role: Counselor. Having already taken several classes on diplomatics, it hadn’t been a leap to take the position on the Saracen when it came available.

Determined to shed her thoughts about the past, and her uncertain excitement for the future, she turned to Rey. “Getting some work done?” She asked, unsure how else to begin a conversation.
