The doors of the shuttle opened and the air came in, reaching their noses with a slight scent reminiscent of roses. They would be able to breathe normally, but there was a different quality to the air, it almost felt richer and more vibrant in their lungs.

As the team exited the shuttle, they would see two humanoid males standing before them. Both had darker ebony colored skin. The taller of the two had hair the color of brick that fell in wavy locks down to his shoulders. The shorter male had pale green hair cut shorter.

The taller man approached. “I am Ryn,” he said, his voice matching that they had heard from the shuttle. “It is our honor to welcome you to Drixov. This is my second wing command, Muvo. Our main facility is underground and can be reached by the elevator,” he waved his hands to the building at the corner of the landing site. “Please come with us.”

“I’m Cmdr. Colter, leader of this team,” DaVinci introduced himself. Nodding his head to Sinclair and the others, he added, “Lt. Cmdr. Sinclair, the Saracens Chief of Security. Dr. Asamina, Lt. Rah-Triton, and the unnamed security NE’s.”

Colter (CIO)

Hannah stepped out and breathed slowly and was released to find the air breathable. But the odd scent of roses and the sensation that the air was richer and more vibrant made her curious and she pulled out her tricorder and started scanning the area and air around them trying to figure out why. Their initial scans determined they would have some difficulty breathing here and added to the odor mixed with the physical reaction made her curious and wary.

“Ryn, what can you tell us about these attacks? Who are they and why are they attacking you?” Sinclair asked.

Sinclair, CoS

Hannah was eager to know their medical status. However these gentlemen were part of the security side of things. That didn’t mean they didn’t know but it wasn’t their priority. More importantly they were under constant attack, apparently, and out in the open wasn’t the place for such questions. She fell into step with the rest of the group, listening the conversation. When she was climbing, Hannah could feel the vibrations in the rock face, warning her of weak spots. Air craft caused vibrations in the ground and air around them, that sometimes, if she payed attention, she could feel. Not an exact warning system, but in a combat zone it didn’t hurt to be aware of all of your senses.

When there was a lull, “Ryn can you tell us what types of weapons they are using?” The question was two fold. For her it served to prepare her for the types of injuries she might encounter. For the rest of the team it would provide insight into what they were facing and how to combat it.

As they walked along, DaVinci paid close attention to their surroundings, taking in every detail no matter how unimportant it may appear. . . .

Sinclair looked over to Sha and pointed two fingers at his eyes and the the same fingers in a small circle around’ a gesture meaning “Keep an eye out.”

Sinclair, CoS

A single nod from Sha, barely perceptible, was her response to the Chief. She busied herself closing the shuttle, keeping the group in her sights as well as scanning the area to make mental notes of terrain and anything that could be used for cover that would be a benefit to them, or to enemies sneaking up on them.

Once the shuttle was closed, she fell in behind the rest and remained silent while scanning about. To an untrained eye, she looked like someone who had never seen an alien planet and was so caught up in the sights, she wasn’t paying attention. To someone who knew, she was looking at specific places and keeping ‘just’ close enough to keep the conversation in reach so she knew what was going on while keeping an eye on their backs. The weapon question made her smile to herself. Leave it to the Doc to ask a question that would seem innocent, coming from her.

OOC: Seems we have lost the GM.

OOC: I don’t suppose we could keep going anyway? I don’t suppose we can do it ourselves? I was enjoying this one. Or should we go back to the ship?

Ryn looked back and said “It would be safer to speak inside. Please, hold all questions till we are inside.” and he led them to a rock wall with a large blast door inset into the natural rock. He looked at an optical reader and then the door slid open to reveal a large cargo elevator. “Please, this way.” and he stepped inside with Muvo.

Ryn

Hannah looked at it two ways. Either they felt at physical risk and didn’t want to waste time or they felt someone could be listening, but she was not the person to make that determination. Colter or Sinclair would or maybe Sha. She stepped inside following Sinclair and Colter and out of the way for Sha who was brining up the rear. It was either going to be a long ride or feel like her stomach bottomed out. Depending on how fast the lift moved.
Lt jg Asimina, doctor

The suggestion to talk inside raised some suspicion from the CIO. Ryn had earlier mentioned the colony had been attacked. Colter assumed he meant from space, but now wondered if they had been attacked by ground troops as well. Ryn’s actions also made him feel as if their enemies had ears on the ground as well. . . .

He shot Sinclair and Sha a look that said “eyes wide”. Turning back to their welcoming committee, he asked, “What’s going on? Why the secrecy?”

Colter (CIO)

As the doors slid closed, Ryn exhaled a sigh. “Not secrecy… just fear. We have had attacks against this facility for the past few months. The past few weeks, though, they have become more aggressive. They have been targeting our perimeter security systems and surveillance. We are a small facility, but the work we do is very cutting edge. If any of our projects were to fall into their hands, I don’t know what would happen.”

Ryn

Sinclair gave him a comforting smile and then said “You keep saying ‘them’. Who are they? Who is attacking you?” Ryn looked up at the big Scot, his eyes wide with fear.

“They call themselves The Dominion.”

Sinclair

Years of hearing ‘shocking’ revelations from patients gave Hannah steady nerves. But the words ‘The Dominion’ made her blink. Her mind racing over what she knew, which was all from a medical stand point. The worst were those recovered from the prison camps forced to fight day after day. The sustained physical trauma causing long term health problems. Then there were the ones recovered from the actual battles. Then well she new very very little from memory of the species that made up the Dominion. Clones though could be weakened if the correct enzyme was introduced to their blood stream…

Sha, herself, was impressed that the Dominion was part of this story, as well. But she would leave most of those details to Sinclair. When a pause occurred in the conversation, she spoke up. “I noticed you require opticals for entrance. Are such securities in place for exit as well? Or is there another way out should something occur?” She didn’t like the fact that Sinclair, the CIO and the Doc were at the mercy of someone else in order to leave or, stars forbid, escape. She had been torn between waiting by the shuttle and accompanying the group. She knew Sinclair would need another hand if something happened and had stepped into the opening with them. Now, she just wanted to be sure they could get out as easily.

The elevator still moved down, but above them they could see the shaft above. They had traveled at least a two hundred meters, and there seemed to be no sign of the levator slowing. Ryn said “No, no… you can leave whenever you like. And there are six such shafts into and out of the facility, and one emergency exit that follows a subterranean river. We will be at the facility shortly.” and he looked to each of them in turn. “Tell me… why have you come? We didn’t know anyone was coming.”

Ryn

Hannah glanced up at the shaft as they continued sink lower. Sha’s question made her curious to know what the shaft was like. Was it smooth, finished, with a ladder for maintenance, or rough hewn still. Depending on that decided how they could possible get back out the shaft if the elevator stopped working. This was the most direct route back to the shuttle, but direct was not always the best way. She turned her attention to Ryn at the mentioned a subterranean river. That posed it’s own set of problems getting out. But it also raised some medical concerns. Questions best left for the doctors when they arrived. “Where are your wounded being kept?” She’d need to go there first before she could give Colter and Sinclair an idea of what they were facing, medically, anyway.
Lt jg Asimina, doctor

“In our infirmary. I will show you when we arrive.”

Colter eyed Ryn suspiciously. “The Saracen received a distress signal from the colony. The atmosphere kept us from transporting in, so we came in the shuttle. It was your people that sent the distress signal, wasn’t it?”

Colter (CIO)

Ryn shook his head. “The colony and our facility are separate entities. We are a science and research facility owned and operated by Haleon Corporation. The colony is a mining conglomerate working for B’nai Mining and Minerals. We don’t cross paths much. But if their call is why you have arrived, then I should send their Magistrate a note of thanks.” he said and the elevator stopped at the bottom of the rough hewn but worn rock elevator shaft. “Please, follow me.” and he stepped off the platform and walked through two large bay doors.

On the other side was a massive cavern. Several hundred meters across in any direction and more than two hundred meters high; the cavern held multiple pre-fabricated buildings and a large central structure that surrounded a truly astonishingly wide hole.

“The infirmary is here.” and he pointed to a structure as they continued to walk past it. “Before you can go in, we have to get you registered as authorized. Because of the attacks, we have increased security. No visitor can go anywhere without an authorized agent with them.”

Ryn

With a practiced eye Hannah scanned the cavern, but it looked stable enough, at the moment. She was curious what was with the hole. And what was down there. She flipped open her tricorder scanning the air quality. This deep into a planet’s crust could release pockets of dangerous gasses. “Ryn, how often are the environmental conditions scanned? Or is there someone who can tell me? We can’t help much if there are gasses down here dangerous for us to breathe.” She followed him to get registered and authorized. She wanted to get a look at the wounded and see if she could determine what kind of weapons were being used against these people. Then she could pass the information to Colter, Sinclair, and Sha.
