“Give it back.”

Dante crossed his arms and glared. Few people among the crew directly disobeyed him and even then, it was usually only his son Oscar or his wife the Chief Medical Officer that did so. Outside of the ‘usual’, the stubborn look he was now receiving told of defiance and a pouting refusal to follow commands.

“Seriously? After all of that performance I throw the ball once and you decide to keep it and not give it back? You have issues Bruce.” The slightly Italian accented tone of his voice followed up with a sigh as he turned back to his desk. “Fine, you stubborn lizard. I’m not playing anymore, keep it and keep yourself occupied then.”

In the corner of the ready room, the large eight foot long lizard sat with his beady yellow eyes following Dante as he walked away from him, the red ball tightly gripped protectively in his mouth, tight enough that the Human would have no chance to wrestle it off him if he tried. That the man wasn’t going to try annoyed Bruce, and he slowly laid the ball on the ground and flicked his tongue in the mans direction dismissively.

A slight ping from his console alerted Dante that playtime was over, and a reminder popped up of his next task for the day.

=/\= Lieutenant Akiyama, this is the Captain. Please report to my Ready Room. =/\= He dropped the hand from his comm-badge and picked up the large, oversized mug of coffee beside him as he sat down at his chair. Taking a sip, he glanced at Bruce over the rim.

“Don’t look at me like that,” he said to the lizard who was still standing exactly where Dante had left him.

Akiyama Rey had been in the middle of calling her twin sister when she was called to the captain’s ready room, she smiled apologetically to her sister
“Sorry Khora, I’ll speak to you again soon! give my love to the others! Goodbye” It had been one of those rare moment where they were within com range of her sister’s ship. It was rare that they got to converse these days since both of them were posted on different ships since the USS Achilles. Akiyama stood up and walked towards the captain’s room.

She had a sense of professionalism to her, keeping her uniform tidy and cohesive, her hair tied up nicely, her hands clasped together behind her back as she walked. She had lived three decades and it was sort of evident from the way she held herself, sophisticated, held together by her need to work hard and her need to do well and make her family proud. She looked pretty human, except for the four ridges that adorned her nose, a dead giveaway to her species.

The Bajoran stood outside the captain’s ready room, patting down her uniform to make sure it was tidy and presentable. Then extended an arm to buzz the door, clearing her throat before she spoke
“Lieutenant Akiyama Rey, sir”

~ Lieutenant Akiyama rey, Chief of Operations.

The doors opened, the slight hiss of them completely at odds with the larger, sudden angry hiss that escaped the throat of the very large eight foot long lizard that the Captain was wrestling with. “Give it here!” Dante told the beast, who in response shifted his beady yellow eyes first in Dante’s direction, then at the open doors of the Ready room. In its mouth, was a small red rubber ball that appeared to be a toy of some kind.

Despite the game being exactly what Bruce had wanted, he was determined not to give Dante the ball and with the opening of the door there was a chance for escape. Especially since he could feel the ball being worked loose as the man wriggled it back and forth in his jaws while kneeling over him and wrapping an arm around his thick, scaly neck.

The only thing in his way was this new Human in the doorway, but he knew he was big and strong. All four legs suddenly gripped the carpet and propelled the long muscular body of the lizard forward, the motion making Dante lose his grip and fall forwards as the beast ran in his low gait straight towards the door, red ball in mouth, yellow eyes fixed on the woman. Freedom. “Bruce! You cut that out!” Dante’s voice sounded behind him, but as usual, he ignored it.

Shocked at first, Akiyama stared at the lizard that’s one big boy was the only few words her brain could muster to itself. Though she couldn’t deny that she had a soft spot for animals, she knelt down and caught the large reptile in her arms, nearly falling backwards she used her legs to keep her in place. She had done a bit of sports during her time at the academy. Which clearly paid off. She giggled at how strong he was, and softly scratched him under the chin.
“Now aren’t you just a cute little baby!”
Her forest eyes settled on Dante and she smiled, she stayed where she was so as to give him time to reach for the lizard.
“he’s adorable! what’s his name?”

~ Lieutenant Akiyama Rey, Chief of Operations.

“Carefull, don’t let him hear you call him adorable or he will start to believe it. That’s Bruce.” Dante made a face at the Lizard, picking himself up off the ground and heading for his coffee. Behind him, Bruce watched the doors to freedom close in front of his face and his tongue flicked once in a dissatisfied show of disgust.

“Your timing is impeccable, Lieutenant Akiyama. Take a seat, would you like something? Coffee?”

Captain Knight, CO

She smiled softly and nodded
“That would be nice sir” she gently nudged the lizard, coaxing him back into the room with a slight chuckle “Back in you go big guy!”
In her cadet days, Akiyama Rey would’ve found it awkward and hard to casually take a seat in a superior’s office. She would have stood awkwardly for a second before finally sitting down. But years of practicing for higher positions had conditioned her to be confident, stand tall with her head up, poised with her hands neatly behind her back. And she was finally able to confidently sit in a superior’s office as if she was an equal; so she did just that, sat down on a chair and crossed her legs, with her left hand resting on her left knee.

“Coffee, triple shot with full cream milk.” Dante ordered from the replicator, then ordered a second and walked back to the desk and placed one of them on the side closer to Rey and held the other, but remained standing.

Sitting carefully on the edge of his table, he looked at the Lieutenant. He knew two other Bajorans well, both of them had vastly different outlooks on life and experiences. It would be interesting to get to know this one as well and see what her outlook was on the Galaxy.

“If you could go anywhere in the Galaxy, Lieutenant, where would that be?”
