“Captain, the attacking ships are not acting as a very cohesive unit. Their movements are not very tactical and don’t show a very coordinated plan.” Colter added from his seat. “More of a mystery though, is the fact that markings indicate the civilian owned freighter, is a trade vessel based out of Certali VII; Flight manifests and records show its last known location was Vulcan, where it left orbit bound for Starbase 11. It never arrived. . . . .that was eleven years ago, sir.”

Colter (CIO)

“Eleven years?” Dante asked with a surprised raise of his eyebrow. “Well then, it seems their timing to make a come back is terrible. What do we know of the Captain?”

The Saracen dropped out of warp and the helm officer expertly maneuvered the massive warship into a spot that provided cover to the freighter. The smaller vessels paused as the big ship appeared out of nowhere, and they began maneuvering to try and get a clean shot at the freighter. As they did the comms lit up and the comms officer said “Sir! We’re being hailed by the Romulans!”

GM

Sinclair said “Three targets locked. Holding fire till your command.”

Sinclair, CTO

Graham

“If any of those raiders get a shot at the Freighter, make them aware that we are more than willing to defend it Mr Sinclair. Target their shields if possible.” Turning his attention to the viewscreen he added, “Put the Romulans on-screen.”

Captain Knight, CO

The screen came to life and showed the bridge of the Romulan vessel and at its center was a striking female Romulan with Commander (equivalent to Captain in Star Fleet) rank insignia on their uniform. =/\= Saracen, you are in violation of the border and are in Romulan space. Remove yourselves immediately or you will be destroyed. Acknowledge. =/\=

GM

=/\= Commander this is Captain Knight, we acknowledge your instructions and will of course comply, once we ensure the safety of the Federation freighter that is under attack and can escort it out of Romulan space. The Romulan Free State has no cause for aggression against us, Commander. This Freighter has been lost for many years, we will escort her and our people back to our space and we will defend ourselves should you make any aggressive action. Work with us on this, do not cause an incident that will strain our relations when we are simply protecting our people as you would do yours. =/\=

Captain Knight, CO

Sha had remained silent. Two security teams were standing by, ready for boarding, or repelling, as needing. When the Romulans spoke of them leaving, she murmured under her breath with a half growl, “Don’t they know we are rescuing our own?” She knew they didn’t, but the comment from the Captain to ‘protect their own’ had hit a nerve she shook off just as quickly.

She would give the Romulans a moment then suggest they assist the Romulans in firing on the same pirate ships they were. Perhaps the appearance of a united front would go a long way as well.

Sha
CoS

=/\= Saracen, the vessel is crewed by escaped fugitives from Romulan justice. They will be boarded and taken back for a return to their imprisonment. At no time has any being on the the vessel claimed Federation citizenship, therefore you have no jurisdiction in this. This is a Romulan matter only. You were directed once. I will not tell you again. =/\= and the comms went dark. As they did, one of the marauders went up in a massive ball of plasma and oxygen fire… quickly snuffed out by the vacuum of space.

GM

Teller refocused his scan for biosigns, Romulans verse humans would be very easy at this range. “Scanning bio signs, but they could wait if there wasn’t something they were trying to hid.”

“Captain, the Fordham was owned and operated by one Harold Bridge, at least at the time she disappeared. I’m continuing to search for more information on Mr. Bridge. . . .
Colter (XO/CIO)

=/\= Harold Bridge, human. Age 57 Standard Years. No criminal history. Missing, whereabouts unknown. =/\= came back the search.

Sha turned in her seat, “Captain, perhaps the Romulan vessel would be willing to accept assistance if we said they could keep their escapes, we merely wish for the ship back. Obviously Federation registry, we could say she’s been missing and taking it back would allow us to discover the kids of the original crew and keep it from falling into anyone else’s hands. Since nothing about it is classified, if it is something that’s been in their possession a while, it shouldn’t be that big of an issue.”

She knew it was a long shot, but hoped that in offering help, they could get close enough to see if the occupants were Romulan or Federation as well as claim their ship back and get answers what happened.

Sha

Sinclair scowled at the tactical display. Something wasn’t quite adding up, but he couldn’t put his finger on it…

Sinclair, CTO

At that moment, long range scans detected two approaching vessels, but they were unknown at the extreme ends of the scanners ability.

GM

Mika, who had been silently watching the situation unfold thus far, spoke up now. “I’m not sure they’ll accept our help regardless of the terms. But I don’t think an attempt would hurt anything, either. Romulans, I’ve heard, can be very stuck in their ways.”

~ Lt Mika, CNS/DO

bump

OOC: Did I get any information on the bio sign scan of the frieghter.

“Two ships at extreme short range scanning range… They don’t seem to be just coming by at random.”

Graham

OOC: Opps, sorry. Missed that.

IC: Scans of the freighter elicited the following life signs:

Four Human
Seven Romulan
Two Vulcan
Three Bajoran
One Cardassian

GM
“Four humans and three Bajorians out of 19 ‘escapees’, ” Graham looked over. “I find it difficult to believe none of those seven said anything about Federation citizentry.” Do we know of seven Federation citizens currently held by the Romulans?”

OOC: Graham is also looking for that information.

Graham.

The search result yielded one hundred and forty seven names of Federation citizens currently being held by the Romulan government. Charges and convictions varied from smuggling to terrorist acts.

Sha took the information she saw on her own scans of the ship and tried to call up the roster of the ship as it was when it went missing. “How many of you are from then?” She half growled under her breath. The growl would likely be heard, though the exact words, not so much unless someone was close enough.

They may not be claiming citizenship because they were incapacitated? Comms down?

She started scanning to see if there was anything untowards that stuck out. Maybe if there were obvious reasons, they could ascertain what they were and help the Romulans, and themselves, and save the old ship as well.

Sha

The situation thus far:

The Saracen received a distress call from a Federation freighter saying it was being attacked, then comms were cut off. Under orders from the CO, the Saracen moved to intercept, but discovered the ship was on the other side of the Romulan-Federation border. The ship, a freighter missing for eleven years according to Star Fleet records, was being attacked by multiple smaller vessels and the Saracen arrived at the same time as a Romulan War Bird, who began attacking the small vessels attacking the freighter. The War Bird Sub Commander warned the Saracen away saying they were trespassing in Romulan space and the freighter was crewed by escaped prisoners. Two new ships have been detected at long range, so far unknown as to type… or who they are.

GM

Sinclair kept a wary eye on the incoming ships, but also began plotting attack variables and scanning for potential weak points in the remaining ships… including the War Bird. Thats when the scans came back with something that made his eyes widen in surprise.

“Captain. You need to see this… now.” and he motioned Dante to his station.

Sinclair, CTO

She frowned at the edge in Sinclair’s voice. She knew the tone well and it didn’t bode well. Keeping an eye on her own console, she kept scanning to see if there was something they could use as leverage, or something else, to get the Federation ship back into Federation hands. “Have we gotten any official call of help from the ship?” She couldn’t remember if their had been a hail or not. Having come on the bridge after things had begun, she wracked her brain to see if she could remember anyone mentioning it. If there had been a distress call, perhaps hailing them to ask what was going on might be an option.

Sha
CoS

Sinclair nodded. “Distress call. They identified themselves as Federation-flagged. Then the comms went dark.” he said while glaring at the display.

Sinclair, CTO

OOC: Just waiting for the CO to reply, everyone. No rush.

GM

“Whatever the situation my be, we can’t just hand them over to the Romulans or anybody else,” DaVinci added. “That is still a Federation registered ship, and if there are humans, Vulcans, and Bajorans there, they are most likely Federation citizens and we owe it to them to check into this mess even if they are prisoners.”

He began to search the database for humans, Vulcan, and Bajorams that were known to be held prisoners of the Romulans as well as the ships crew manifest. . .

Colter (XO/CIO)

“Not that I’m agreeing with handing them over, but I think the law is pretty clear. We can’t cross the boarder to enforce our beliefs or laws. We probably could argue if they had brought the Freighter over the boarder themselves as a means to evade our authority.” Not that they had to prove anything in the short run. They could do whatever they wanted and explain it away or not at a later time.

Graham

“Comms, get the Romulans back on line. We need to discuss this. We’re answering a distress call from a Federation ship. It’s our duty to check into that. If they’re all guilty of crimes against the Empire, that’s one thing, but it’s still our duty to investigate and get a clearer picture of the situation, especially if that ship has been MIA for 11 years. . . . “

He continued to search for the prisoners identities. . . . .

Colter (XO/CIO)

A message appeared from the Tactical station. Two signatures inbound. Unknown origin, fluctuations in signal strength. Possible cloaked vessel or vessels.

The identity of the prisoners themselves was not forthcoming, but a cross-reference of the last known crew of the freighter showed a crew of four: three humans and a Tellarite.

The Comms officer nodded and soon the face of the Subcommander reappeared. =/\= What is it now, Saracen? Or were my instructions not clear enough? =/\=

GM

Sinclair, CTO

“Two contacts entering the sector… no ids, I’d put money on the fact they are cloaked ships.” Graham looked over. “The odds are tilting.”

Graham

“Unable to get a lock on either signal.” Sinclair said to the bridge.

OOC: Fixing Split

They could hide themselves, they could hide their warp fields, but sooner or later their ion trails would be too long to remain within the cloak. It wouldn’t give them a direct location, but it would tell them when the ships were in the area and at impulse and probably alot about their movements.

Sha took the roster information and sent it to the CO’s, XO’s and CTO’s screens.

Roster from ship shows three humans and a Tellerite. Not sure if same persons are still on the ship.

She then glanced up at the obviously irritated face of the Romulan on the viewscreen.

Sha

=^=Sub-commander, you’re instructions were perfectly clear, buuuut, we have a slight problem. That is Federation registered ship that has been missing for 11 years. As a Federation/Starfleet vessel, we are required to investigate their disappearance and return them to Federation space. If they are enemies of the Empire and have been arrested, charged, and sentenced, we are willing to work with you to bring a peaceful resolution to this situation. Let’s be adults and diplomats. Relations between the Empire and the Federation have been going in a peaceful direction lately. Let’s not jump to a hasty miscommunication which may lead to unwanted or unseeded violence . But to do this, we need all pertinent information.=^=

Colter (XO/CIO)

Teller

OOC: I want to hold off a day or so to see if Dave will be posting before we move ahead.

GM

Sinclair suddenly shouted out form the Tactical station. “Captain! Two more warbirds in bound! Weapons are hot and we are being targeted!” and he raised the shields without waiting for the order.

Sinclair, CTO

The two warbirds appeared clearly on the scanners when they dropped their cloaks. With their arrival, the first warbird suddenly broke off and began heading towards the Saracen. The comms activated and the Commander from their initial contact said =/\= You were warned, Saracen. You refused to leave. That is an act of war, and we will respond accordingly. =/\= and the comms went dark.

GM

“That’s a lot of firepower to show up suddenly.” Graham glance at the tactical station, then back to his science screen.

Graham
