She just knows I got pulled away on a covert ops mission and continued getting those until I ended up here on the Saracen as her Chief of Intel. If I told her exactly what I had been doing those 5 years. . . . I’ll just say it’s better that she doesn’t know the details. I’m not real proud of some of the things I did then. I just have to kee my eyes open to anything that could possibly be a threat to her.”

“Well, let’s hope it never comes to that.” Brenna contemplated the XO and wondered, yet again, why they were both on this ship. It didn’t do much good to contemplate what game Intel might be playing. It was still too early to tell. Supposition could be made, but Brenna knew that trap. She would wait for more detail.
She rolled her shoulders with a deep breath. “Well, Cmdr, what else can I answer for you?”

“Not really answer, commander. Just promise me you’ll keep me up to date if you hear of anything else developing about that list. I hope we’ve seen the last of it, too, but. . . . let’s just keep our eyes open. I have a feeling we’ll be working closely with each other.”

“That I can promise and do. Hopefully it’s just default paranoia on my part, but…” It was hard to put to words, “It doesn’t feel like that.” Instinct and git feelings had saved her more than once.
“Is there anything in particular about the security department you want to see improved or maintained? Or that I should know?”

“In your department? No. Your predecessor kept a pretty tight security department.” The XO/CIO turned to his computer to bring up the ship’s security data. Reading the screen, he nodded in acknowledgement.
“Training scores and simulation reports are all well within acceptable limits, weapons scores are good, weapons maintenance and service are all up to date. . . . .no complaints on what I see here.”
“I do have one more recent personnel concern, Lt. Cmdr. And that is the Betazoid exchange officer, 2nd Lt. Laju. I understand there was a bit of a hubbub about her arrival AND the fact that she was able to get Bajoran weapons on board, on her person. THAT shouldn’t have happened.”

Brenna’s brows went up almost all the way to hair line. She had only just arrived on board. She hadn’t made it to her office yet and gotten a status report. “No, Cmdr, that should not have happened. I will review the reports. And have a long talk with the officers who were on duty that day. Refresher training for the entire department is in order as well I believe.”
“This 2nd Lt Laju, is in the brig? Has she been questioned about why she thought it was okay to not report her personal weapons, or even bring them on board to begin with?”

“I was off-duty when it happened, so I only heard about it after the whole situation calmed down. I don’t know the whole story, but it seems she was under the influence of some narcotic when she came aboard. Capt. Knight, Dr. Knight, and Counselor Ruby diffused the situation. She was not placed in the brig, but was released under the Counselor’s observation. It should all be in the same report I got.”

Narcotics that didn’t bode will to Brenna. Oh she knew it happened, even understood how it did, but…well it was up to the doc and counselor to decide if this Laju was safe to allow back on duty. Brenna certainly wasn’t going to release any weapons to her. “I will pull up the report as soon as I get to my office. Give me a day, maybe two, and I’ll find out how it happened and have a plan to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

“I’m sure you will, Lt. Cmdr. I’ve got the utmost faith in you,” Colter replied. “Now, If’s there’s nothing else, you’re free to go.”

“Thank you Cmdr Colter. I don’t have anything else.” Atoded stood and left the office. With that meeting down she made her way to the next one.
