When she left Lieutenant Ch’Thaanaq she did not go to the Counselor or Sickbay. Instead, she ended up in the lounge, found a table, placed her bag and cylinder on the table, and pulled out her PaDD. I wonder how long I can wander about the ship until someone stops me and asks what I am doing. She thought. She pulled up the specifications for replicators and saw there were several versions of them. Holding the PaDD over the cylinder on the table she took a picture of it and waited while the results were downloaded. When the results came back she realized the part was quite old and belonged to an earlier version of replicators. “No wonder it needs to be repaired all the time.” She said as she shook her head.
Now that she had gotten the ship assignment she always wanted, she hoped all the wishing was worth it. Typically, a loner, only socializing when required to do so, making friends was not going to be an easy task. After a quick glance at the time, she said, “I think I have time for a bite to eat.” As she glanced over the holographic menu, there was a longing for authentic Orion food. Most of the spices that were used in the dishes were illegal in the Federation, therefore she probably would never get to taste these again.
Her eyes looked over the menu for something spicy. Finally saw something that seemed interesting. “Buffalo wings with Nuclear Fusion sauce?” she said out loud. Underneath the title of the dish in small letters was the description for the Nuclear Sauce, Nuclear Fusion sauce is the hottest sauce in our arsenal, and for good reason. In every taste, there is an explosive combination of Reapers peppers from Bajor, Vulcan Ghost Peppers, & Habanero peppers from Earth, with a top-secret blend of spices. This is not for the faint of heart.
“Sounds like my kind of dish,” Jhalae said with a grin as she tapped the screen to order.

After she’d eaten the semi spicy Buffalo wings, Jahlae stood, grabbed her bag, PaDD and the replicator part then exited the lounge. Her next stop on her self led tour was the shuttle bay that housed the Armadillo-class shuttles. She hoped she would get a chance to board one and see what the controls looked like. So far, all is good. Obviously I am not missed. she said to herself. I can probably skip my counseling visit and my medical exam and no one would notice.

Ynuchausti, Engineer

That thought barely had time to finish its train as her comm-badge beeped at that moment and a voice came through. Deep and sounding gruff, the words were slowly spoken and the speaker was clearly making an effort to enunciate them correctly.

=/\= Ensign Ynuchausti, this is Doctor Do’trahk. I have you on my appointment list for your medical clearance, and I am ready to receive you at your (a clear pause here)… convenience. Please feel free to report to me, when you have a moment. =/\=

She frowned. They caught up with her. Her wandering was coming to an end. =^=Acknowledged, Dr. Do’trahk. I should be there soon, sir. Just heading to my quarters to put up my bag..=^=

As the voice trailed off and the call ended, a laugh came from someone behind her. The origin was a man that looked mostly Human, but had a small ridge running from the top of his nose up his forehead to his scalp and eyes that were anything but Human. Those eyes were clearly yellow in colour with horizontally split pupils, Ktarian eyes. Medium-short hair of a dark brown in a fashionably messy style complimented a trim but regular physique that sported a leather jacket and plain grey jean type trousers. No hint of Starfleet livery was on him and he wore no comm-badge yet he carried himself with the confidence of someone who was exactly where he wanted to be. He may have been one of the few people in the lounge sitting by himself, nursing a drink.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop,” he raised his hands to emphasize his innocence, “I’m heading back to my ship to grab a few things and couldn’t help overhearing that guys voice. Sounds like the Klingon doctor they have here, you know I visited a Klingon doctor once. He offered to break my arm if I didn’t get out of his office, apparently I wasn’t sick enough to warrant his attention so he thought he would give me a reason to be there if I didn’t move. I moved.”

“He did sound like a Klingon didn’t it?” She said as she squinted her eyes in thought.
Her eyes widened in shock but she smiled when he said the Klingon Doctor he had encountered threatened to break his arm. “Wow, he threatened to break your arm? I dont blame you for moving. Klingons are craaazy strong. He could have snapped your arm with one hand.” Still smiling Jhalae shook her head and said, “What happened to that hippo…whatever they call it…oath thing? A klingon doctor. It’s an oxymoron.” She laughed.

“Well I’m not exactly sure that everybody outside of Humans abides by that Oath,” the man paused a little in thought before continuing with a grin. “I think the Klingons prefer What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger rather than Do no harm. It’s definitely a Klingon thing, in order to heal, you must first endure.”

He fell quiet and looked at her a moment, the smile not leaving his face. The silence didn’t last long though and he held out his hand to her in greeting. “I’m Kasper, just visiting. Nice to meet you…?”

Kasper, doing a fly-by

Nice to meet you Kasper. I’m Jhalae. The new engineer on this ship. She dropped her bag on the floor, placed the replicator part on the table, then took a seat at the table where he was sitting. So just visiting? Where from?”

Ynuchausti, Engineer

Turning his head slightly his eyes directed hers out the closest view port, which happened to be right next to the table he was sitting at. Outside in the distance the multicolored swirl of a nebula stood out against the dark compass of space. “Out there,” he replied softly before turning back to her, meeting her eyes with his rather than looking away. “I move from place to place as the time takes me, doing odd jobs here and there in between expeditions. Most recently I had a job delivering some things the Captain wanted brought on quickly and discreetly, so here I am.”

“You deliver things? Like what?”

“Anything that anybody needs delivered anywhere,” he smiled. “Usually I work out where things are more remote, so sometimes the mail service is a little unreliable or maybe, the local regulatory body is too heavy handed on import taxes. But a man has to eat and work is work. Sometimes all anyone wants is a delivery service that is reliable, and that’s me.”

One of the Lounges servers walked by and placed a plate of what looked like nacho’s on the table between them, topped with a thick serving of sour cream, cheese and what looked like jalapenos.

She looked at the food, then said, “Oh I am intrigued. So much so that I think I will say and help you eat…whatever that is.” She pointed to the nachos. Then she reached for one and placed it in her mouth, leaving behind a spot of cheese on the corner of her mouth before she wiped it away with a napkin. There was a nod of approval from her, “It’s very delicious. What is it?” She reached for another.

“Something from Earth, they call it Nacho’s, but when I was growing up we added all sorts of spicy flavors to it to make it more exciting. The replicators here have this one, where they add Jalapeno’s, but I like it better with some extra hot sauce in the meat sauce.” He reached forward himself and scooped a large helping onto one of the chips, then shoved the whole thing in his mouth and sat back, chewing. “Help yourself, this is one of the things I like about Federation Starships, free food.” He had spoken when enough of the mouthful had been dealt with, but he was still chewing slightly.

Here Kasper paused and took a drink of something in a glass, it had a golden, translucent quality to it. “And here I am telling you about the Captains discreet delivery, you must be that easy to talk to.” He bit his lip, grinned again and shrugged, looking Jhalae directly in the eyes once more. “Lucky I’ve already been paid, right? You’re brand new on the ship if the Doc is hunting you down for a medical, is this your first posting out of the Academy, Jhalae?”

Kasper

“It is kind of. My first posting on a starship. I was stuck on a boring Starbase before this posting came up. Everyone there was about to die, they were at “50 earth years or more. I was the only young person there. She waved at the waiter for a drink. No doubt the Klingon doctor was going to be mad at her for showing up late or not at all. She’d have to come up with an excuse. Good thing she was an Ensign. She was told that she could act like she didn’t know the rules and get away with a slap on the hand. Where a higher rank was expected to know better. ” Tell me what is the Captain like? The Chief Engineer said that she is forever unclogging his shower. I wonder what he is stuffing down the drain. Maybe it has something to do with your delivery.” She said.

Ynuchausti, Engineer

Kasper nearly spat out the drink he was swallowing at that moment as Jhalae asked, but managed to get it down and cough slightly as he chuckled. “Dante? Sorry, Captain Knight?” Kasper imitated the Captains accent perfectly, Italian inflection and all. “He’s a good man if my judge of character is of any value. He has standards and knows right from wrong, and he’s one of the rare breed of Captain that will do the right thing when things get tough, not hide behind rules. His wife is gorgeous too, and I’m guessing it’s her hair that’s blocking those drains. Long, luxurious and dark, and she’s Russian. Did you know her mother was a Lingerie model? I bet most people on the ship don’t realize her mother is Anastasia Petrov, the famous ‘Charlottes Secrets’ model.”

“Oh…I see.” She said as she rolled her eyes. “The thought that he was stuffing the merchandise you smuggled to him was a more appealing story. There needs to a hair catcher in there or something.”

Here, Kasper paused and bit his lip, then looked Jhalae in the eyes with a lopsided smirk that enhanced the space rogue flair. “Change of subject, I just had a different idea of why that drain is blocked all the time and it isn’t public friendly topic.” Instead Kasper leaned forward over the table, relaxing his forearms onto it and looked at her intently as the waiter approached to take her drink order. “So if everyone was about to die on that old base you went to, what did you do for fun? I am intrigued.” He used Ynuchausti’s own words back at her.

Kasper

“Hmm, there wasn’t much to do.” She excluded everything that was not befitting of a young officer or lady she’d done on the Starbase. There was no way she was going to tell Mr. Kasper about all her crazy liaisons. It was best to play the role of the innocent hardworking Ensign. “It was mostly work but not just any work. Work by a schedule. At 5am I got up to review the ship docking reports. At 8am I headed to the docks to scan in all the newly arrived shuttles....you catch what I am saying. The only fun time is when a ship had a layover on the Starbase. I would hangout with the crew and party, on their ship of course because thenl dilapidated Starbase, ” she snicker, “had only a few places to socialize and it wasn’t all that fun when the Starbase regulars where keeping an eye on you.” She leaned back and smiled, “That is why I put in a request to be stationed on a ship.

Ynuchausti, Engineer

Kasper smiled, wide and easily. He had an understated but confident charm and appeared interested in what Jhalae was saying. “See new places, experience new peoples, make the most of where you set foot then leave it behind for the next adventure, yes? It sounds familiar to me, I was never the type to work to somebody else’s schedule, I get that only I never had to watch other people arrive on shuttles.” Now the smile turned into a grin again. “The Serenity lets me be the one leaving for the next adventure, if you catch what I am saying.”

Pausing as the waiter arrived, Kasper looked at Jhalae and motioned for her to order first. “What are you drinking? I’ll have the same.” Reaching for the food, he took another mouthful of nacho mix before turning his eyes back to her.
