Brenna looked at Siarram. “And that is my cue to leave. Headache won’t get better hanging out here.” Glancing around she saw Krex all the way across the room and waved politely. She wasn’t going to attempt to make a path across the entire place.

Atoded, CoS

“I agree.” Siarram made a face. “Body shots…” He mumbled something in what must have been Andorian. “Let’s go… Uh, do you want to go to your quarters or sickbay, or…? He looked at Brenna as he made his way to the door with her.

Brenna moved out into the corridor and took a deep breath of the much cooler air and lack of press of bodies. She smirked up at him, “Oh no, anywhere is fine, and no need for sickbay.” Brenna moved back down the hall, “It’s my own fault. Working extra hours on side projects and such. I am usually much more careful about shielding myself. Alcohol affects the body and the mind, and telepaths can pick up on that. It is not a pleasant sensation.”

Atoded

Siarram grunted, suddenly glad that was a sense he did not have. “I can’t imagine it would be…” He led her down the hallway. “Your quarters, then?” He asked as he headed towards the lift, needing to know which deck to go to.

~ Siarram

It really was not. Brenna rubbed her hand back and forth across her forehead. “Yes that would be fine.” Brenna stepped into the lift and took the time to breathe and re-center herself. “Thank you for walking with me.”

Atoded

Siarram shrugged. “No problem.” The doors opened and he stepped off with her. “I wasn’t interested in staying at the party anyway. I don’t enjoy the company of drunk people.”

~ Lt Ch’Thaanaq, CE

Brenna nodded as she walked. “Neither do I. I have never understood why people prefer to have their senses altered.” She shrugged, “Given the success of the liquor trade, I suppose I am in the minority.” She slowed as they came to her door. She looked up at him and smiled. “Would you like to come in? Something more palatable tha. Replicated gagh and nonalcoholic?”

Atoded

“Then we are in the minority together,” Siarram commented, shrugging. “Perhaps it’s because of my Vulcan side, but even when I do partake, it has little effect on me. I don’t see the draw of being altered in such away, at any rate.” He looked down at her, then at the door, then down the hallway, then shrugged and nodded. “Alright, why not?”

~ Siarram

Brenna opened the door and was immediately greeted by three very happy K-9s. They turned circles in front of her, nosing her hands for attention as she shooed them out of the way. She pet each and then they turned their attention on Siarram and stood as if waiting to see if he wanted the same greeting.

He looked at them questioningly, as if unsure, but then bent down and pet one of them, and ended up giving attention to all three of them.

When Siarram was finished they all padded back to their beds and laid quietly. Brenna replicated three big dog biscuits and gave one to each of them.

“What would you prefer to drink?” She asked as she went to the replicator. She had some personal recipes. The first two were from Betazed: sliced hillrep (a native fruit) and Kimden rolls with Espra cheese. The other two were Vulcan: ulan soup and vranto salad. “My mentor was fond of these and a great programmer. She gave me the replicator pattern for them. I hope this is okay,” Brenna told him as she carried the tray over and sat it on the table.

Brenna

“I’ll try the Kimden rolls.” Siarram replied, feeling adventurous. “Ulan soup was my father’s favorite, though.” He sat down with her. “It is fine.” He grinned and shook his head, “Better than the Captain, anyway.”

~ Siarram

Brenna set bowls and dishes in front of both of then before she sat. “Oh? What happened?”

Brenna

“It’s no big deal, honestly. Remember that day in the gym? I had been invited to have lunch with the Captain.” Siarram replied, but in contrast with his words, his fists clenched on the table. “Only for him to insult my heritage!” He growled in a display of Andorian anger, his fist banging the table.

~ Siarram

Brenna’s eyebrow rose, not from his anger but the event. “That seems…ill advised and unprofessional, especially of a Captain.” Brenna lifted the bowl of soup letting go the heat warm her hands before beginning to eat. “Personally I think your heritage is vastly unique and yours alone to decide if you are proud or not. No one else’s business.”

Atoded

Siarram took a deep breath to try and calm himself. “Not because it’s mixed, but Vulcans specifically he called something like mindless robots and I took offense on behalf of my father’s side of the family.” He spat the word robots like it disgusted him to say. He sampled the food cautiously, found it acceptable, and took a larger bite. “These are good.”

~ Siarram

The normally pleasant and smiling security chief suddenly looked dangerous. The dogs all sat up suddenly watching her, and then the look was gone. “I am sorry to hear that. Personally I have always found Vulcans to be anything but robotic. Every Vulcan I have met, and I have met a lot, are deeply caring, compassionate, and deeply passionate. They control that of course, but it is no less true. I am sincerely sorry he said such a thing.”

Brenna

“I’ve heard worse,” Siarram replied with a shrug, “but thank you. I appreciate it.” He watched the dogs carefully, like he didn’t quite trust them, but realized they were simply reacting to Brenna and relaxed. “Obviously he falls victim to the misnomer that Vulcans don’t have emotions. I will take pleasure in proving him wrong.”

~ Lt Ch’Thaanaq, CE

The dogs wagged their tails and lolled their tongues at him and then laid down. Brenna leaned back and looked at him. “You would like my mentor I think. 1/2 Vulcan 1/2 Klingon. I understand that watching her parents’ courtship and marriage was epic and she is quite … unique. Emotionless is not a word I would apply to her.” Her black eyes danced, “You must find pleasure in more than proving wayward captains wrong. What are they?”

Atoded

“Half Klingon?” That would indeed be interesting. He smiled at Brenna and shrugged, “Well, you saw me in the gym the other day… So there’s the martial arts. I do meditate as well. And…” He shrugged, awkwardly, as if embarrassed.

~ Siarram

Embarrassment? Hmmm well that hadn’t been Brenna’s intention, but now she was intrigued. “And?” Her black eyes stared at him across the table for a moment before she went back to her soup.

Brenna

Siarram met her gaze and grinned sheepishly, “Soap… art?” He said it questioningly, almost shyly, watching her closely for her reaction. It was something he didn’t go sharing all the time. Hardly what one expected of an engineer.

~ Siarram

“Oh, like carving shapes and designs out of soap bars? I bet that is hard. Soap is kind of fragile isn’t it?” If Brenna thought it was different, but not strange. She liked it, it was different and totally not related to his work. Outside of any stereo type people might place on him.

Brenna

“It is, and sometimes your fingers melt it.” Siarram said. “Sometimes it’s relaxing in a way machinery isn’t.” Machinery was relaxing to him but in a different way. “And when I’m done I can simply use the soap, there’s nothing to store or get rid of.”

~ Siarram

“Sounds like an ideal hobby. Low storage, relaxing, and useful.” She picked up her drink and sipped for a moment. “Reminds me a bit of Tibetan monks. They make these magnificent sand mandalas. And once it is done they have a moment to reflect on the design and then they destroy it. They draw lines through it disrupting the picture and then sweep it all away. Then they scatter the sand. Nothing is permeant. Everything must be enjoyed in the moment because the moment never comes again.”

Siarram chuckled and shook his head, “It’s nothing so deep, but I like the sentiment.” He shrugged, “It’s practical, on a starship, to make something useful. No need to ship it home or give it away or store it someplace. Just something to whittle away time and relax and then, a while later, it’s gone.”

She picked up a roll with the cheese and took a bite, after a moment she washed it down. “So other than being insulted, how are you liking engineering on this old war horse?”

Brenna

Shivan snort-chuckled. “You mean this rust bucket? I have never worked on such a ragged, run down, old system with so many workarounds in place the entire ship might as well be a workaround!” Then he grinned at her and gripped the side of the table, “I love it.”
